STEELERS QUOTES

HEAD COACH BILL COWBER:

H "I don't need to say a word. I think the game speaks for itself.

Talk about the last offensive drive: "We hadn't been moving the ball that well. Our four wides did a good job of mixing things up, dropping in coverage, comingwith pressure. We.knew going in it was kind of a guessing game that we gotinvolved with. Obviously the big fourth down pass to Andre (Hastings), Neil(O'Donnell) did a good job. He was patient, let the thing develop. They cameback with the blitz. We were able to pick it up with our protection. We had alittle double move called at that time. Neil made a great throw and ErnieMills, again, who just keeps making plays, made another big one.

You were expecting a blitz or man coveraae? "We were because they had droppedback before and it was kind of them mixing it up and us guessing right. That'swhat it was, a guessing game. I think they probably were guessing a lot betterthan we were today. We just happened to hit the big play.

How much did you See of the final play and did you know how close you came tolosina it? "I didn't see it at all. The minute the ball got in the endzone Iknew there was a chance of losing it. Maybe it was poetic justice, having beenthere again with the ball in the air, and an opportunity to win a championship. Now I'm one and one. It was a great feeling.

Had you thought of not going for it on fourth down in that situation? "No.That was the game. We only had one or two time outs. That was it. I thinkit's kind of ironic that the things that's gotten us here was our four wides andno hurry, no huddle offense all year long and it's kind of the thing that got usback in the game. Maybe this game is indicative of how our season's been. It'sa great group of guys. We're not going to be satisfied with going. We want togo and win the whole thing.

Were you surprised in the beginning of the third auarter they seemed to gp witha lot of action fakes? "We had some breakdowns on defense. We kind oflost our poise a little bit. We did a pretty good job of keeping them to fieldgoals. They hit the one big play against us. I have to give them credit. They've been hitting that play a lot. It was a nice call on their part to hitthe blitz. We had to stop them on third down and 2. Willie Williams made agreat play. It's been that kind of year. Nothing's come easy. We've been ableto get some breaks. I think a lot of those we created ourselves.

Do you have a areference of who want to in the Suner Bowl? "I'm not evengoing to watch (the NFC game). I'm going to enjoy this. To come from where wewere a year ago and to have the opportunity to come back and to have it end theway it did. It gives credence to perseverance. It gives credence to belief andtrust. When we were 3—4, I don't think there's many people in this room, afterthat Thursday night game, that would have thought that we'd be sitting heretoday talking about our football team. You've got to give credit to theplayers, the assistant coaches and really to the whole organization for theirpatience and persistence and just kind of the way we stuck together.

Kordell Stewart has been a wrinkle but today he kent the drive going for thefirst touchdown then he caught the first ball on your final drive. Is hestarting to become more than lust a wrinkle? "He hasn't been a wrinkle forabout the last four or five weeks. He's a bonafide pretty good receiver. He'snot a bad quarterback, he can run with the football and at times punt. He's avery good athlete, a playmaker. . . The great thing about it is we have some playsleft. We have one more game and you haven't seen the last of it... The onething that you see is he's not the only one. You've got Ernie Mills and AndreHastings and I haven't mentioned Yancey Thigpen. It's a pretty good group ofreceivers. Give credit to Indianapolis. They did a pretty good job. But whenyou're dropping eight guys back, you should have time. I think Neil (O'Donnell)did a pretty good job recognizing that. Now you bide some time. You don't justthrow it fast. I think that's what happened on the Kordell play... I thoughtour offense did a pretty good job. We had the one turnover which they got thethree points off of. It's been the typical game for us.

Do you often send a corner fire (Willie like that on a short yardagethird and one? "That defense got kind of screwed up. We had half the peopleplaying one thing. Sometimes those are the best defenses. We do bring him attimes. He's a pretty fast guy and he got there because there was a pretty goodhole on the other side.

Is that what he was supposed to be doing on that play? "Absolutely.

What did you say to the offense when you were down by three? "Those guys haveso much confidence. They were trying to go four wides earlier in the game. That's the thing about it. The success that we've had previously which has beenalmost like 75 or 80 percent, they wanted to go to it. They felt verycomfortable in it. That's what's happened. The confidence that you have in it.You get to a fourth down play. We just hit the right play and he made a goodread. Neil feels very comfortable with the surrounding corps of receivers hehas. John L. Williams made a couple big plays in there.

Ernie Mills seems to step un in even olavoff game: "I don't know but I'm gladhe's with us. He's done it all year. It hasn't been just the playoffs. Youlook in Chicago, the big seam pass that was caught. Ernie Mills has been avaluable member. Those are four pretty good receivers and they've all got theirown little niche.

You're hugging your on the field. Do you feel like you're one of theauvs? "We came in this room. The way this season had gone, we were 3—4. Wehad a commitment. We knew what we could do. We weren't going to look too fardown the road. We weren't allowed in our own house to talk about next week. There was a conviction and committment made in this room that we weren't goingto be deterred. You bond when you go through adversity. You grow together. I

think our football team did that. That's what makes it so special. A year agowe were always up and we were the favorite and had the home field throughout. The way this whole thing has unfolded... They (the media) all wanted to talkabout last year. Let's talk about this year. It's a different football team. We're not done with this thing yet. Just because we won a game, and I know wewere fortunate to win it, that's been the nature of this football team. We're•not going to be satisfied until we finish this thing of f the right way. Thenyou won't have to talk about the 1994 Steelers. You'll be able to talk aboutthe 1995 Steelers.

Can your ticker take another one like this? "Absolutely. I hope it does. That's why you're in this business. The locker room. Those people out there inthose stands. The way this city has responded. The people of Pittsburghdeserve this. This city is special. It's unique. They appreciate hard work. They appreciate the way people put their minds to something and get it done. We're just going to do our job and let our deeds speak for themselves. We'vegot one more game to go and we're not going to be satisfied until we finish thisthing off.

It looked like you were about to bawl at the end of the game. "I'm an emotionalguy... I was feeling a sense of achievement. Not accomplishment. Achievement. We were able to get over a hurdle. One that would have sat with this footballteam. I don't know how we would have responded for two years in a row to havefailed on one last play. I was happy for our football team to get over that. It's important. That's the thing I felt at that time. A sense of achievement, not accomplishment. We haven't accomplished what we set out to do. That willcome in two weeks.

Did the players earn a counle days off? "I gave them of f. I told them to enjoythemselves. Instead of coming in at 10 o'clock tomorrow they come in at 12.

Do you think you'll be aiven little chance of winning the Super Bowl? "We'vebeen given little chance most of the year. Do you think it will serve as extramotivation? "What we need to do is finish this thing of f then we'll be able tosit back and have a sense of having earned something. We haven't been handedanything. We're not going to talk about it. We're going to let our deeds speakfor ourselves.

Did dela vu enter your mind? "Deja vu entered my mind when that ball was in theair on the last play of the game. With the last play of a championship andeverything riding on it, I'm 1—1. It's better than being 0—2. We're going toseize this moment. 1995 Steelers. Don't want to hear about 1994 Steelers. The thing we've got to do is take this thing the next step and not just besatisfied with getting there. But we want to finish this new season off 3—0.We've got two right now and we've got one more to go."

*STEELER8 VS COLTS — JANUARY 24, 1996 - THREE RZVERS STADIUM

STEELERS QUOTES

OUARTERBACX NEIL 0 'DONNELL:

What did you tell the team when you went out for the last drive? We knew we hadto score some points. It was one of those game where you have to give the Coltsdefense a lot of credit. These guys came ready to play. They mixed it up wellwith their coverages. They pressured me a lot especially in the 3rd quarter. It was one of those things where I looked up and I guess at one time there was 5minutes left in the 4th quarter, and I said "Where did the 4th quarter go?".The 4th quarter went by so quickly, and all of a sudden when we got the ball itwas 3 minutes and something left. They said okay let's go 2:00 minute (drill),and we made some big plays. That 4th down play was unbelievable. I fired thatas hard as I could and said, "If he wasn't going to catch it, it would gothrough him or to another guy". So it was a big play.

(On the 4th and 3 game winning drive): We tried to run some crossing patternshoping that they would give us man coverage, but they didn't. They gave us thezone. I just fired it into that window to Andre (Hastings). He almost madeanother person miss to go a little further for us. So it was a big, big 4thdown.

(Comments on wide receivers): You guys see them every day, and we've been doinga lot here. Last year and even this year when we were 3—4 and people were sayget rid of this one and get rid of that one. Then when we got on a roIl and weall stuck together. That wide receiver group is a very close group. They gettogether every Thursday night amongst themselves and spend some time together. And they're all playing extremely well. If they can give me a little time upfront, I have so much confidence in them that they will get open. Ernie (Mills)has made some big plays. Yancey (Thigpen) has had a spectacular year. Butthere are a lot of other guys making big plays out there.

(On Ernie Mills 37 yard reception): It was a go pattern. When we broke fromthe sideline, people on the sidelines go with Yancey and go that side. You knowthere are 8 million coaches when you're out there. I took a quick peek left, and then went back over to Ernie's side. Ernie made a great move on the guy,and I gave him a chance to go get it. I told him that in the huddle that I wasgoing to give one of those guys a chance to get it. Now you have to go get it.

(Did you have a feeling that you've been here before?) All week I just tried tostay away from all the talk about last year, last year, last year! But lastyear was last year, it was always in front of my face. So I said, just staycalm because there were some people who were really fired up in the huddle. I

just stayed focused and we came down and made some big plays when we had to.Now we'll be going to Arizona, and that's what it's all about.

(What did you think about their (Colts) last play?) You know how "Hell Mary's"go, they can go either way. I was just praying to the good Lord. We came sofar, and we had a chance, and I guess it just rolled out of his hands at thelast moment. I tip my hat to them, but it really hasn't settled in right now.I think maybe next week it will settle in that we're going to the Super Bowl, and we're representing the AFC. That's a great honor. They should all writeabout that we're going to the Super Bowl and not how our offense struggled.

(How many times have you seen that sign. "just three more yards"? I saw thatall year. It's there every home game. I have to talk to the guy about takingthat down now. I look at it and I never forget. It's all we heard about.Okay, we're three yards short. You had a great game in the playoffs. But thatdoesn't mean anything unless you win. When we came back this year and Bill(Coi4her) said up in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and talked about winning achampionship, you looked at your watch and he said he's getting a little longhere. Sure enough, it's a reality and now we're going to a Super Bowl. Somaybe we did learn something from that last year.

(On Colts) Those guys played extremely well out there. They have a very goodfootball team. I don't think they'll sneak up on anyone anymore. TheCinderella Colts, they played extremely well offensively, defensively. They

gave us some problems. They played that certain type of coverage when theydropped so many people. They were able to take away many of my options. Unlessyou really know the defensive scheme that they try to run, they do a pretty goodjob dropping people off. They ask their linemen to put pressure on thequarterback, and they do a pretty good job doing that. Tony siragusa did a goodjob bull rushing and getting his hands up. He knocked own three balls thatwere key plays. That one interception in the first drive, that was a deflectedpass by Tony. Pony's from New Jersey, so I'll hear a lot from him this season.

(What about the city of Pittsburahfl This is a great place to play. It reallyis. You see out there, these people live and die by the steelers. They reallydo. This city really pulled around us. They never really died, they were inthe game all day. I give a lot of credit to the city because they kept us goingalso.

STEELERS vs. INDI OLIS

PS DARREN PERRY: What did you have on defensively at the end, lust honina tosit back and keep evervthinc, in front of voul "We have guys that are thejumpers and guys that are the tippers. We just try and sit back. We have oneguy jumping up and hopefully he's the guy that will bat it down. Everybody wasjust being aggressive and not letting one of those guys come down with it. I'venever been in a game where the emotion level has been up that high. You justtry to maintain your poise throughout the whole thing... It seemed like itstayed up there forever."

Re: PD pass to Floyd Turner: "We were in a blitz zone and (Jim) Harbaugh tookadvantage of the defense. Give him credit. He gets paid just like us and hemade a great throw.

What does it mean to go to the Super Bowl? "It's tremendous to haveaccomplished what we have, especially with all the adversity we faced. Justabout the only guys who believed we could get to the Super Bowl when we were 3-4were the people in this room. Not too many other people did. It doesn't matterif we win by four or one. We're going."

LB KEVIN GREENE: Was the last Dlav a sigh of relief? "It was unbelievable.Any given play can get you. They almost made the play but they didn't. . .1 cansee how this team beat the San Diego Chargers and Kansas City chiefs in theirbackyard because they almost did it to us today. This team deserves a lot ofcredit. I don't know if that Cinderella story is right because I know theseguys came out of the blue. These guys are a good team and they've arriyed.

"I've been in the league 11 years and I've come up short every year but thisone. It's tremendous. It's all about going to the Super Bowl and winning.I've said before, athletes are well paid and they're blessed to be playing thegame and have six months of vacation and they work hard. But it all boils downto winning. Just to win the game. All the other stuff you collect along theway, you want to have the Super Bowl championship. You want to go to that gameand play in it."

RB BAN MORRIS: How does it feel to score the winning PD? "Oh man, it's big. It's big! It feels great. It was a second and one and John L. Williams lookedat me and said 'Whatever it takes to get in.' We met in the hole.. There was acollision and I just kept pumping my feet like I was running in water and I gotitin.

Was this game a little closer than you wanted it to be? "We knew the Colts weregoing to come to play and they did. We didn't think we were going to blow themout. We knew it was going to be a fight. Last year was running through a lotof people's minds, but we weren't going to let that happen.

Was there a real determination not to lose at home for a second straight year?"When they went down and scored, the offensive unit got together and talkedabout it.

The play wasn't very comDlicated, was it? "They knew what was coming, justright up the middle. The line and John L. did their jobs with the blocking, andit was my job to get it in."

CB WILLIE WILLIAMS; How do you defend a nlav like the last one of the game?"You want to tip the ball away from them and stop them from catching it.

Were you in on that olay? "I was right there in the mix. The ball hit the turfand bounced into his arms. At first I thought he caught it and had sbrt ofsickening feeling. Then I saw the referee call it incomplete."

CB thfRIS OLDHN(: How do you feel about the win? "It was a big win. No letdowns today. Now we wait and see who we play in the Super Bowl and scout themand keep up the intensity."Were you in on the last play of the game? "No. I was on the tight end side. That was Willie Williams and Carnell (Lake) and everybody else. I was the onlydefensive back that wasn't there. So I really didn't know what happened."

I'm glad he dropped it. That's what you want, to havea game that comes down to the wire. You dontt want a blowout here, a blowoutthere. ' You want it to be a 60 minute battle. That tests yàur team. Our team,we've been down all year. To come through theway we did.já unbelievable. For only. your second, year in the leacue. it must feel orettv good to ao to theSuner Bowl: "It's great.

make some plays on him if we were persistent."1.

OP LEON SEM1CY: Re: Colts 'defense: "They knew what they had to do. they camein and they to stop the 'run. And they did that. They kept themselves inthe game with big plays.

' They had some big plays that got to our defense, butour 'defense stuck in there. They hung in there and: they played tough.

Was it like the Steelers of old? "Kind of. The trademark around here is'The defense sets the tempo and they did' that today. ' We struggled alittle on offense. ' But the 'defense came around. They knew what they to do.

They.stopped them on some clutch situations.

"But my hat goes off to the Indianapolis Colts. A lot of really didn'thave them going this far, and really even competing in a game of this magnitude. They came in with nothing tolose 'and they played a hell of & game. We werejust fortunate enough, to come out with a win. I have a great, deal of respectfor their defense and the way they disrupte4 usoffensively. But we still wonand I'm happy forit."LB DEAD BROWN: Did you make any defensive adiustments at halftime? "No. Westayed with the same base defense we ran in the first half. It wasn't adefensive problem. It wasn't a scheme problem why they were moving the ball. It's just they were play-actioning us to death.: We weren't getting back andcovering our guys. We were being so aggressive toward the run and forgetting thereceivers behind us.

What were you thinking on the last blay? "I was trying to sack (Jim) Harbaugh, trying to get some 'pressure. I thought there was no way they were going tocatch it. I had no doubts. But once I saw their guys signalling touchdown, Icertainly had doubts. It went our way and, we're going to the Super Bowl.Re: similarities to San Diego? "There were a lot of similarities and it wasvery eerie. The week leading up to the San Diego game was very cold and thensuddenly the game day was warm. Just like today. It seemed like everyone wasagainst us, even Mother Nature. But there were times out, there today, like thelong touchdown, that seemed too similar. The guys just went 'Wow, this can'thappen again. There's no way this is going to happen.' We weren't saying itcouldn't happen again, we were saying we couldn't let it happen again."CB ROD WOODSON: We all know you wanted to be out there, but you still have tofeel aood for your teammates: "This group of guys have great character andthey're great athletes too. It's easy to play hard for your friends. The guyshere trust each other and like each other. When you're playing beside yourfriend, it's easy to say 'let's do this thing together.'

Can you be ready fOr the Suner Bowl? "I have two more weeks to get ready.Coach Cowher had an open mind this week and he 1told me he'll have an open mindfor two more weeks. That gives me three total tweeks of practice and then we'llfind out. I expect to be there.

STEELERS QUOTES

OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR RON EREARDT:

It seems that your offense has been able to score when it had to this year? That's been very gratifying for us. Our 1 and 2 minute offenses have reallydone a good job for us this year. The way we played before the half and at theend of the game really had me pleased, whether we have gone to the 4 wides orthe 5 wides has really productive this yeaer.

Could you talk about the big pass to Ernie Mills and what kind of play was it?

We knew that we had to come up with some kind of play that could get some prettygood yardage downfield. We knew that we had to get downfield so that if wedidn't get the TD we could set up for the PG to tie the game. We just ran alittle go and he's the go-to-guy, with Yancey (Thigpen). He's made clutch playsall year for us. He did it again today.

Could you talk about you feelings getting back to the Super Bowl?

The 1st one, you say 'wow, it happened.' The 2nd one is tougher, that 3rd oneeven tougher. It's just a great feeling, but you know, at my age I'm in the 4thquarter going into overtime, so you feel good about that.

KORDELL STEWART

on his TD play:

I just tried to get open. I felt that he kind of shoved me out of bounds. Itjust so happened that I got to the back of the endzone with Belser chasing meand caught it. I just did what a WR is should do when the QB scrambles. . .Neildid a great job of finding me and getting the ball to me.

If you see a quarterback scrambling, you just have to try and get open. There'snot a certain person that he needs to get the ball to. It's whoever's open andwhoever Neil can get the ball to.

On the drive in which he gained 3 1st downs:

That was pretty much OUR drive, not my drive. I had some plays where I was atquarterback and got some balls here and there, but there were alot of greatthings going on there. I wouldn't say it was my drive, I would say it was ourdrive. I was just happy to be out there when I was called upon.

on the Colts' final pass play:

The ball was in flight for what seemed like forever and I came over from theflright hash all the way to the left side before the ball landed. It was tipped acouple of times and when I got there I was able to get my hands on it. On theway down, the ball hit the turf and the receiver grabbed it right away but I sawthe official waving it off so I was of f and running. The ball hit the turf andI really couldn't tell you how he ended up with it.

I was thinking normally that the ball would be tipped and that I would be ableto get over there and possibly knock it down.

I didn't see him (the receiver) until I was on my way down. I was trying tograb the ball. He had it but I saw it hit the turf. Once I saw the officialwave it of f, I jumped up and I was running. I didn't want to look back. I sawpeople running onto the field so I assumed it was incomplete.

On being part of an historic play;

That really hasn't crossed my mind. The most important thing is that we wonand we're going to get to play again in two weeks.

On coming to play I or the Steelers:

Pittsburgh has always been my favorite team. It goes all the way back to whenthe steelers played the Cowboys in the Super Bowl. That's when I first startedwatching football and I fell in love with it. Mel Blount was my favorite playerof all time and Lynn Swann and Pranco Harris. Those were my favorite threeplayers. I've been liking the Steelers ever since. To be honest, this is achildhood dream to be part of this team and also go to the Super Bowl

S Darren Perry (on whether the Colts caught the last pass of the game): Xthink I saw the ball hit the ground. I was pretty sure they didn't come downwith it. I just turned to the official and see if there was a flag beingthrown. ON a play like that, anything can happen. You've got a group of guysdown there, you have to look at the officials.

I saw the ball. It looked so huge and like it was traveling in slow motion.Like 'is it going to get here, is it going to get here?' In a situation likethat, you just have to not let one of their guys come down with it."

The Colts have a great defense, And Earbaugh makes plays and wins ballgames. We knew it would come down to the end and it would be a dogfight."

On the birth if daughter Taylor:

I found out at halftime (that the baby was born). A little trainer kid cameup and told me. It was a message that came down. Somebody must have told him.I was happy and I was thinking all we have to do now is win.

(Coach Cowher) asked me if I wanted to miss the game and I said no. I justthink it was good of him to give me that option because it shows that he hassome concern for my family and my well—being as well.

All along we haven't gotten much credit. Coming into this game and when wewere 3—4 people were down on us, but we felt we could break it up into threedifferent seasons. After we were 3—4, we got together as a team and said O.K.that season's over with and we'll start a new season. We won eight games inthat season. Now we're in our third season and we're 2—0 and we've got one moreto go.

No I don't think so. Last year I wasn't in there to have the opportunity totry to make a play. But this year, my number was called and I got out there andtried to make the most of it.

I tried to use the same approach that brought us to the dance. I go out thereand do my job and try to put our team in the best position to get a victory.won't get too excited just yet. If we win the Super Bowl, I'll be the mostexcited person in the world. Right now I'm trying to keep it all in perspectiveand strive for what we need to do.

Neil (O'Donnell) put it right on the money. He hit me right in the numbers. If I didn't catch it, it probably would have broken my shoulder pads.

Everybody made a play. Every receiver had a big catch. Corey Holliday cameup with a big catch early on. Ernie Mills had one of the biggest catches of hiscareer. I had one of the biggest catches of my career. That's what this gameis about. It's the ultimate team sport. It's a team game.

STEELERS VS COLTS —JANUARY 14, 1996 - THREE RIVERS SThDZW(

I think you saw an excellent football game by two good football teams. I toldmy football team at the end that I was very proud of them that they should walkout of here with their heads high, not only f or this ball game but for theentire season, and I think that they should thank one another for the seasonthat they had this year. They came so far yet they came so close, 1:34 secondsaway from it all. I think it's a tribute to them that they played the entireyear that way, and I hope they set a standard as the way that the IndianapolisColts are going to play football from here on end. The best team won. If wewere the better team, we would have had the better score. This ball club hasnever given up all year. We fought right down to the very last play. That lastplay was as close as you could have gotten. It could have gone either way, butunfortunately, it fell in their hands.

(On Kordell Stewart's touchdown): Well, I can't see from where I was, but youpeople who had the television, you know that he came out of bounds. It's atouchdown that should have never been a touchdown. I didn't get an explanationfrom the officials. They didn't know. We had to tell them.

(On Jim Harbauph's cantain comeback): He almost really did pull it out today.Jim gave us everything that he had. It was another Jim Harbaugh game. He had acareer year, and we are very happy for him.

(Indiananolis resnect): Even in defeat, we proved that we could play witheverybody in the National Football League. We were only 1:34 away from the bigone.

(Comments on auestionable calls) I don't know. I really couldn't see it frommy viewpoint.

(Comments on the final play): The last play, I just tried to throw it up andkeep it in the end zone. I was trying to get it about 5 yards into the endzone and give him a chance. You have to give Aaron Bailey credit. He went upand made a play for it. I give all the craze and glory to the Lord our God andour Savory Jesus Christ. our guys played with tremendous courage. They believein their hearts that we would win today. They followed that with courage. I'mso proud of them.

1 Comments on the 4th guarter): We had opportunities to win it down the stretch.I can think of two or three plays when we could have pulled it out. I give themcredit. I don't know who it was that came of f the corner and stopped Lamont(Warren), but Lamont had a lot of room to run, and the guy made a good play. Itwas a fight. It was a 60 minute fight and all we ever ask is everybody fightsfor 60 minutes and play every play as hard as they can, and then we'll look atthe scoreboard at the end of the game.

(Comments on the 3rd down plait to Lamont warren): He came real close (tobreaking through the line). It was just one of those shoestring tackles. Hewas gone if he would have gotten through.

(Comments on neonle gaining respect for the Colts): I don't worry about whatpeople think of us. I know we had a lot of people pulling for us. Weappreciate all the encouragement that everybody gave us this week. I hope thatwe gave them something to be proud of.

(Comments on beina un 16—131: I believed that the whole time (that we weregoing to win the game). I believed that before the game. I believed it in myheart. All we had to do was play with courage and the guys did that.

(Comments on Steelers pressure): They did a good job with the pressure. We hadguys injured and banged up. We've got some starters missing, but guys came inand hung tough. They fought. I give them all the credit in the world for that.

You can't come any closer to the Super Bowl than that right there.

(Comments on failure to conolete on 3rd and 1): I don't know about that. I

can't even tell you. I was just fighting every play. I guess after the gameyou check the statistics and I'm sure everyone will do that. All I know is weplayed our hearts out, and we did everything we could to win.

(Comments on his injuries today): I dislocated my middle finger and cut myindex finger. I got it on my helmet or his helmet (Brentson Buckner). I threwit and my finger came back into my face and it dislocated on my face mask. Ithappened on the final drive when the pass was nearly intercepted (Oldham's nearinterception).

(Comments on halftime talk): (On throwing more in the second half) no, nothingwas said at halftime about that, but, we felt that we could get (Ken) Dilgerdown the middle of the field and we wanted to try that a couple of times and wedid. I'm glad we started throwing, and the PD pass, I really got some goodprotection on that. That was the first time in the day when I really felt thatI could sit back there and wait for something to develop. Give the guys upfront credit, and all the guys. Their hearts are as big as this stadium, and Ilove them for that.

(Comments on building on this loss for next season): Yes, of course, we comeback next season and I think all the guys really believed in what we were tryingto accomplish this year——what the coaches were doing. They believed in theirhearts we were going to win today. we came close——as close as you canpossibly come. You know next year seems like a long way away. It's sad that welost the game, but I congratulate the Pittsburgh Steelers and theirorganization. They have a fine team——a fine ball club. They have a lot of greatplayers, and I'll be pulling for them in the super Bowl.

(Comments when leavina the field): I thought he caught it, but after I saw thereplay a couple more time, the ball looked like it hit the ground. The onereplay when I looked up and saw, and it looked like he caught it.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Indianapolis ColtsAFC Championship GameJanuary 14, 1996Colts Postgame Quotes

Tony Siragusa

We're one of the most underated teams to ever go into an AFC Championship and Ihave nothing but high respect for everyone in this lockerroom. We might not bechampions but in my heart everyone in this locker room is a champion.

How does this motivate you for next year?

I think this team knows what they have to do and how to prepare for the biggame. I think this team prepared for this year and Ted Marchbroda will prepareus for next year the same way. When something is woring I don't think there aremany things you should change.

On getting so many tipped balls at the line of scrimmage...

lie was throwing the short slants on a three step drop and I just startedgetting my hands up and tipping some stuff. You know things started going ourway in the beginning.

On coming out of the gate fast after missing last week. -.

There were opportunities to make plays and I made some plays today, didn't makeenough plays or we'd be on the other side of the coin. Big games, you have togive everything you've got and I think everyone in this locker room gaveeverything they've got. Anybody in this locker room, from the equipment managerto Jim Irsay, everybody gave 100%. We've got nothing to hang our heads about. Ithink Colts fans should be nothing but proud of this team, because I am.

Did the best team win today? The best team won today. It could of gone either way. You've got two greatteams out there, I have alot of respect fothe Steelers and I know they've gotalot of respect for us.

on the emotion of the game...

I'll tell you what, people got their moneys worth out of the game today. We'regoing to fight you for 60 minutes and I'm sure that it's a great example ofhow this team has worked all year. One second one the clock and we're going togo and we're going to try to win the game. Things just didn't work out.

I have no regrets about any thing I did. I wish I would have played last weekwith these guys against Kansas City. I'm sure the guys in this locker room willbe in my heart for the rest of my life. This will probably be the biggest gameof my life. I fought with a lot of great warriors and these guys are right upthere with the rest of them.

On the prospects for next year...

I think next year our goal like every year is to get to the Super Bowl. I don'tthink this team is going to look by anybody. We're going to prepare for thefirst team on our schedule and go after them first. Teams that look ahead findthemselves at home at the start of the year.

It was a total team effort but we came up short. You havealot of credit but guys put there heart into it.

On questionable calls by the officials:I'm not really sure I have to go back and watch the film.fought our hearts out but caine up a little short.

Can the Colts carry this momentum into next year...Definitely. Because to come so close and not get there isthis is something to build on for next year. I think guysget here and we're going to try our best to get back.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Indianapolis ColtsAFC Championship GameJanuary 14, 1996Colts Postgame Quotes

Aaron Bailey

Was the final play a million to one shot?

Not really. Everyone thinks that we're a million to on shot to why not...Howthe play is designed is for Brian Stbablein, who has the highest vertical onthe team to pop the ball up in the air and I was going to come from behind andcatch the ball. Just like Kordel]. Stewart and Michael Westbrook did. Someonepop the ball in the air and I'd be there to catch it.. .Somehow it got loose.I'll have to look at the film. It is frustrating.

Describing the final play...

I had it for a split second. Between the time I was in the air I guess I bumpedinto someone else or the ground caused it but at one time I did have the balland it came out...The ball was tipped and then I had it for a split second. Itried to grab it with one hand because one of the Steelers' defensive playershad me straddeled in that big pile. I tried to grab it with one hand, like Isaid I had it for a split second and when I hit the ground it either came outthen or when I was in the air I tried to bring it back to my body. . . On my waydown I had it cradled in my body.

On his feeling after the game...

It really hurts because we had a wonderful season. They want to call us theCinderella team but I didn't feel we were the Cinderella team. I felt wedeserved to be there. We'll be back next year.

You can try to focus on the positive but it really hurts to lose a game likethat coming out so wired. I just feel really bad.

STEELERS QUOTES

EflD COACH BXLL COWBER:

"I don't need to say a word. I think the game speaks for itself.Talk about the last offensive drive: "We hadn't been moving the ball that well. Our four wides did a good job of mixing things up, dropping in coverage, comingwith pressure. knew going in it was kind of a guessing game that we gotinvolved with. Obviously the big fourth down pass to Andre (Hastings), Neil(O'Donnell) did a good. job.

How much did you see of the final olav and did you know how close you came tolosing it? "I didn't see it at all. The minute the ball got in the endzone Iknew there was a chance of losing it. Maybe it was poetic justice, having beenthere again with the ball in the air, and an opportunity to win a championship. Now I'm one and one. It was a great feeling.

Had you thouaht of not going for it on fourth down in that situation? "No.That was the game. We only had one or two time outs. That was it. I thinkit's kind of ironic that the things that's gotten us here was our four wides andno hurry, no huddle offense all year long and it's kind of the thing that got usback in the game. Maybe this game is indicative of how our season's been. It'sa great group of guys. We're not going to be satisfied with going. We want togo and win the whole thing.

Were you surprised in the beginning of the third quarter they seemed to go witha lot of play action fakes? "We had some breakdowns on defense. We kind oflost our poise a little bit. We did a pretty good job of keeping them to fieldgoals. They hit the one big play against us. I have to give them credit. They've been hitting that play a lot. It was a nice call on their part to hitthe blitz. We had to stop them on third down and 2. willie Williams made agreat play. It's been that kind of year. Nothing's come easy. We've been ableto get some breaks. I think a lot of those we created ourselves.

Do you have a oreference of who want to in the Super Bowl? not evengoing to watch (the NFC game).

Kordell Stewart has been a wrinkle but today he kept the drive going for thefirst touchdown then he cauaht the first ball on your final drive. Is hestarting to become more than just a wrinkle?

Page 33: STEELERS OFFENSE STEELERS DEFENSE COLTS …prod.static.steelers.clubs.nfl.com/assets/images/imported/Media...60 Kendall Gammon, C 63 Dernianitl DawsolL C 65 John OT 66 Thomas Nowborry,

flo you often send a corner fire (Willie Williams) like that on a short yardagethird and one? "That defense got kind of screwed up. we had half the peopleplaying one thing. Sometimes those are the best defenses. We do bring him attimes. He's a pretty fast guy and he got there because there was a pretty goodhole on the other side.

Is that what he was to be doing on that Dlay? "Absolutely.

What did von say to the offense when you were down by three? "Those guys haveso much confidence. They were trying to go four wides earlier in the game. That's the thing about it. The success that we've had previously which has beenalmost like 75 or 80 percent, they wanted to go to it. They felt verycomfortable in it. That's what's happened. The confidence that you have in it.You get to a fourth down play. We just hit the right play and he made a goodread. Neil feels very comfortable with the surrounding corps of receivers hehas. John L. Williams made a couple big plays in there.Ernie Mills seems to sten uc in every playoff name: "I don't know but I'm gladhe's with us. He's done it all year. It hasn't been just the playoffs. Youlook in Chicago, the big seam pass that was caught. Ernie Mills has been avaluable member. Those are four pretty good receivers and they've all got theirown little niche.

You're huaaina your players on the field. Do you feel like you're one of theauys? "We came in this room. The way this season had gone, we were 3-4. Wehad a commitment. We knew what we could do. We weren't going to look too fardown the road. We weren't allowed in our own house to talk about next week. There was a conviction and committment made in this room that we weren't goingto be deterred. You bond when you go through adversity. You grow together. Ithink our football team did that. We'renot going to be satisfied until we finish this thing of f the right way.

We'vegot one more game to go and we're not going to be satisfied until we finish thisthing of f.

Did the earn a couole days of f? "I gave them off. I told them to enjoythemselves. Instead of coming in at 10 o'clock tomorrow they come in at 12.

Do you think you'll be given little chance of winning the Suner Bowl? "We'vebeen given little chance most of the year. Do you think it will serve as extramotivation? "what we need to do is finish this thing off then we'll be able tosit back and have a sense of having earned something. We haven't been handedanything. We're not going to talk about it. We're going to let our deeds speakfor ourselves.

Did deja vu enter your mind? "Deja vu entered my mind when that ball was in theair on the last play of the game. With the last play of a championship andeverything riding on it, I'm 1—1. It's better than being 0-2. we're going toseize this moment. 1995 Steelers. Don't want to hear about 1994 Steelers. The thing we've got to do is take this thing the next step and not just besatisfied with getting there. But we want to finish this new season off 3—0.We've got two right now and we've got one more to go."

LB LEVON flflLflD: How did you feel after the last play? "When the refereesignalled no touchdown, it was the happiest feeling in the world.

Did you exoect how the fans heloed you out today? "We knew they were going tobe well into the game. I think they felt like we felt last year, that we had todefinitely get this monkey of f our backs. We did that. It is tremendouslywonderful. I don't know how to express it. The fans really did a great job. They were with us all year long. It was great being able to èhare this withthem instead of flying back to Pittsburgh. It's not the same feeling when youcan go into this stadium, see the expressions and see how happy everybody is."

K NORM UOHNSONI "It takes me a while to get my emotions going and they'restarting to go. I'm getting more and more excited. It's a good feeling.

Talk about the pissed field goal: "Actually I missed it by quite a bit, Ithought. Sometimes you just miss them. I'll just erase that one and move on..winds came up all of a sudden on that one. I think I lost my concentration.

Did you see that last nlav? "I was pretty much on the field. I started lookingat the ref s, they said incomplete and I started celebrating. It's a goodfeeling."

WR VANCE! TEIGPEX: Re: Steelers bia plays: "We've been doing it all year as agroup. When the chips are on the line, same results. We thrive on that as agroup. Me, Ernie (Mills), Kordell (Stewart) when he's in there, and CoreyHolliday. We take it upon ourselves to make it happen. We know our numbers willbe called. We've been doing that all year. Now we have to do it just one moregame."

WR ANDRE HASTINGS: Re: fourth and three catch: "Well my number was called. They had been playing me with two linebackers, deviling me Mynumber was called and I tried to come up with the play and Neil (O'Donnell) madea great throw. He threaded it between three defenders and it hit me right in

the numbers.

Is that the biggest catch of your career? "Every catch from here on out is thebiggest of my career until we win the Super Bowl."

RB ERRIC PEGRAM: Re: birth of his daughter durincf the game; "They called meat the hotel at 4 a.m. to tell me she (my wife) was going into labor. When Igot to the hospital, I called Coach Cowher and we talked about it. Be said itwas up to me. Then I talked to my wife about it, and I asked her what shewanted me to do. She said you better go play. I want to go to the Super Bowl.

when did you find out about the birth? "At halftime one of the assistanttrainers told me that we had a girl. What did you name her? "Taylor."

FS DARREN PERRY: What did von have on defensively at the end, lust honina tosit back and keen everything in front of vouj "We have guys that are thejumpers and guys that are the tippers. we just try and sit back.

Re: TD pass to Floyd Turner: "We were in a blitz zone and (Jim) Harbaugh tookadvantage of the defense. Give him credit. He gets paid just like us and hemade a great throw.

What does it mean to go to the Suner Bowl? "It's tremendous to haveaccomplished what we have, especially with all the adversity we faced. Justabout the only guys who believed we could get to the Super Bowl when we were 34were the people in this room. Not too many other people did. It doesn't matterif we win by four or one. We're going."

LB KEVIN GREENE: Was the last nlav a siah of relief? "It was unbelievable.Any given play can get you. They almost made the play but they didn't...I cansee how this team beat the San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs in theirbackyard because they almost did it to us today. This team deserves a lot ofcredit. I don't know if that Cinderella story is right because I know theseguys came out of the blue. These guys are a good team and they've arriyed.

"I've been in the league 11 years and I've come up short every year but thisone. It's tremendous. It's all about going to the Super Bowl and winning.I've said before, athletes are well paid and they're blessed to be playing thegame and have six months of vacatiàn and they work hard. But it all boils downto winning. Just to win the game. All the other stuff you collect along theway, you want to have the Super Bowl championship. You want to go to that gameand play in it."

RB BAN MORRIS: How does it feel to score the winning TD? "Oh man, it's big. It's big! It feels great. It was a second and one and John L. Williams lookedat me and said 'Whatever it takes to get in.' We met in the hole. There was acollision and I just kept pumping my feet like I was running in water and I gotit in.

Was this aame a little closer than von wanted it to be? "We knew the Colts weregoing to come to play and they did. We didn't think we were going to blow themout. We knew it was going to be a fight. Last year was running through a lotof people's minds, but we weren't going to let that happen.

Was there a real determination not to lose at home for a second straiaht year?"When they went down and scored, the offensive unit got together and talkedabout it.

The nlav wasn't very complicated, was it? "They knew what was coming, justright up the middle. The line and John L. did their jobs with the blocking, andit was my job to get it in."

CB WILLIE WILLIAMS: How do von defend a olav like the last one of the game?"You want to tip the ball away from them and stop them from catching it.

Were you in on that play? "I was right there in the mix. The ball hit the turfand bounced into his arms. At first I thought he caught it and bad sort ofsickening feeling. Then I saw the referee call it incomplete."

CB SRIS OLDEAM: How do you feel about the win? "It was a big win. No letdowns today. Now we wait and see who we play in the super Bowl and scout themand keep up the intensity."

Were you in on the last of the game? "No. I was on the tight end side. That was Willie Williams and Carnell (Lake) and everybody else. I was the onlydefensive back that wasn't there. So I really didn't know what happened."

Was it like the Steelers of old? "Kind of. The trademark around here isdefense. The defense sets the tempo and they did that today. We struggled alittle on offense. But the defense came around. They knew what they had to do.They, stopped them on some clutch situations. .

"But my hat goes off to the Indianapolis Colts. A lot of really didn'thave them going th.is far, and really even competing in a of this magnitude. They came in with nothing to lose and they played a hell of We werejust fortunate enough, to come out with a win. 'I have a great, deal of respectfor their defense and the way they disrupted us offensively. But we still wonand I'm happy' fór'it."

LB CHAD BROWN:. Did you make any defensive adlustments at halftime? "No. Westayed with the same base defense we ran in the first.half. It wasn't adefensive problem. fl wasn't a scheme problem why they were moving the ball. It's just they were play-actioning us to death.: We weren't getting back andcovering our guys. We were being so aggressive toward the run and forgetting thereceivers behind us.

What were you thinking on the last play? "I was trying to sack (Jim) Rarbaugh, trying to get some 'pressure. I thought there was no way they were going tocatch, it. I had no doubts. But once I saw their guys signalling touchdown, Icertainly had doubts. It went our way and we're going to the Super Bowl.

Re: to San Diego? "There were a, lot of similarities and it wasvery eerie. The week leading up to the San Diego game was very cold and thensuddenly the game day was warm. Just like today. It seemed like everyone wasagainst us, even Mother Nature.: But there were times out there today, like thelong touchdown, ithat seemed too similar. The guys just went 'Wow, this can'thappen again. There's no way this is going to happen.' We weren't saying itcouldn't happen again, we were saying we couldn't let it happen again."

OB ROD WOODSON: We all know you wanted to be out there, but you still have tofeel aood for your teammates: "This group of guys have great character andthey're great athletes 'too. It's ,easy to play hard for your friends. The guyshere trust each other and like each other. when you're playing beside yourfriend, it's easy to say 'let's do this thing together.'

Can you be ready fOr the Super Bowl? "I have two more weeks to get ready.Coach Cowher had an open mind this week and he 1told me he'll have an open mindfor two more weeks. That gives me three total 'weeks of practice and then we'llfind out. I expect to be there."

STEELERS QUOTES

GUARTEREACX fliL 0' DONkaL:

What did you tell the team when you went put for the last drive? I fired thatas hard as I could and said, "If he wasn't going to catch it, it would go.through him or to another guy".

(Did you have a feelina that ypu've been here bet ore?) All week I just tried tostay away from all the talk about last year, last year, last year!

(How many times have you seen that sicin. "lust three more yards"? I saw thatall year. It's there every home game. I have to talk to the guy about takingthat down now. I look at it and I never forget. It's all we heard about.Okay, we're three yards short. You had a great game in the playoffs. But thatdoesn't mean anything unless you win. When we came back this year and Bill

said up in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and talked about winning aChampionship, you looked at your watch and he said he's getting a little longhere.

Unlessyou really know the defensive scheme that they try to run, they do a pretty goodjob dropping people of f. They ask their linemen to put pressure on thequarterback, and they do a pretty good job doing that. Tony Siragusa did a goodjob bull rushing and getting his hands up. He knocked down three balls thatwere key plays. That one interception in the first drive, that was a deflectedpass by Tony. Tony's from New Jersey, so I'll hear a lot from him this season.

(What about the city of Pittsburczh?) This is a great place to play. It reallyis. You see out there, these people live and die by the Steelers. They reallydo. This city really pulled around us. They never really died, they were inthe game all day. I give a lot of credit to the city because they kept us goingalso.

on the Steelers slow start at beginning of seasonx

All along we haven't gotten much credit. Coming into this game and when wewere 3—4 people were down on us, but we felt we could break it up into threedifferent seasons. After we were 3—4, we got together as a team and said O.K.that season's over with and we'll start a new season. We won eight games inthat season. Now we're in our third season and we're 2—0 and we've got one moreto go.

On his fourth down catch (Have you ever made a bigger one?):

On Mills' catch:

Ernie had a go route and Yancey had a go route. In the huddle, Ernie waslike, 'Give me a chance,' and Yancey was like, 'Give me a chance,' and I waslike 'If they're not openj give me a shot.' came up with a big catch.Neil made a great throw. The ball was put where only Ernie could make theplay.

B Barren Perry (on whether the Colts caught the last pass of the game):I I was pretty sure they didn't come downwith it. just turned to the official and see if there was a flag being

thrown.

The colts have a great defense. And Rarbaugh makes plays and wins bailgames. We knew it would come down to the end and it would be a dogfight."

(On going to the 8uper Bowl): This is what you play the game for.. • theexcitment afterwards. It's almost as if it's not really happening."

I thought, 'we lost another one.'looked at the ref and he waved it of f. I just started running and celebratingbefore be could change his mind, We looked at the ref to see if he was sure. That's when it clicked in. I"m happy we're in the Super Bowl. Steelers CB Randy Full.rOn the Colts' final pass play:

The ball was in flight for what seemed like forever and I came over from theright hash all the way to the left side before the ball landed. It was tipped acouple of times and when I got there I was able to get my hands on it. On theway down, the ball hit the turf and the receiver grabbed it right away but I sawthe official waving it off so I was off and running. The ball hit the turf andI really couldn't tell you how he ended up with it.

I was thinking normally that the ball would be tipped and that I would be ableto get over there and possibly knock it.down.

On being part of an historic play:

That really hasn't crossed my mind. The most important thing is that we wonand we're going to get to play again in two weeks.

On coming to play for the Steelers:

Pittsburgh has always been my favorite team. It goes all the way back to whenthe Steelers played the Cowboys in the Super Bowl. That's when I first startedwatching football and I fell in love with it. Mel Blount was my favorite playerof all time and Lynn Swann and Franco Harris. Those were my favorite threeplayers. I've been liking the Steelers ever since. To be honest, this is achildhood dream to be part of this team and also go to the Super Bowl

STEELER8 QUOTES

OflENSIVE COORDINATOR RON PRflSD?:

It seems that your offense has been able to score when it had to this year? That's been very gratifying for us. Our 1 and 2 minute offenses have reallydone a good job for us this year. The way we before the half and at theend of the game really had me pleased, whether we have gone to the 4 wides orthe 5 wides has really productive this yeaer.

Could you talk about the big pass to Ernie Mills and what kind of play was it?

We knew that we had to come up with some kind of play that could get some prettygood yardage downfield. We knew that we had to get downfield so that if wedidn't get the PD we could set up for the FG to tie the game. We just ran alittle go and he's the go—to—guy, with Yancey (Thigpen).

On his PD play:

I just tried to get open. I felt that he kind of shoved me out of bounds. Itjust so happened that I got to the back of the endzone with Belser chasing meand caught it. I just did what a WR is should do when the QB scrambles. . . Neildid a great job of finding me and getting the ball to me.

On his wife going into labor:

I asked her if I should play and she said, Of course you should play. I

wanted to play, but I wanted to do what was right at the same time. She told meto go play the damn game and win it for her.

(I had) a Super Bowl berth and a little girl's as well.

on the last play of the game:

When it was quiet, my heart probably jumped out of my body. Then there wasthis big roar and I knew he had missed the ball and the ref made the signal andI think I went berserk.

on Ernie Mills' big catch in the fourth quarter:

That's the reason we call him 'Thrills Mills.' He's always coming up with thebig catch at the big moment that we need it. He always comes up with it.That's just Ernie being Ernie.

On the final TD drive:

One thing I kept saying was "We've got to believe.". We were moving the ballon these guys, we just weren't getting in the endzone. So we got in there andthe rest is history.

COLTS QUOTES

READ coacx TEt MARCH DRODA:

(On Jim Harbauph' s captain comeback): He almost really did pull it out today.Jim gave us everything that he had. It was another Jim Harbaugh game. He had acareer year, and we are very happy for him.

(Indianapolis respect): Even in defeat, we proved that we could play witheverybody in the National Football League. We were only 1:34 away from the bigone.

OB JIM nRBAUGH:

(Comments on auestionable calls): I don't know.

(Comments on the 4th auarter): We had opportunities to win it down the stretch.I can think of two or three plays when we could have pulled it out. I give themcredit. I don't know who it was that came off the corner and stopped Lamont(Warren), but Lamont had a lot of room to run, and the guy made a good play. Itwas a fight. It was a 60 minute fight and all we ever ask is everybody fightsfor 60 minutes and play every play as hard as they can, and then we'll look atthe scoreboard at the end of the game.

(Comments on the 3rd down olav to Lamont Warren): He came real close (tobreaking through the line). It was just one of those shoestring tackles. Hewas gone if he would have gotten through.

(Comments on Deonle gaining respect for the Colts): I don't worry about whatpeople think of us. I know we had a lot of people pulling for us. Weappreciate all the encouragement that everybody gave us this week. I hope thatwe gave them something to be proud of.

(Comments on being un 16-13): I believed that the whole time (that we weregoing to win the game).

(Comments on failure to comolete on 3rd and 1): I don't know about that. Ican't even tell you. I was just fighting every play. I guess after the gameyou check the statistics and I'm sure everyone will do that. All I know is weplayed our hearts out, and we did everything we could to win.

(Comments on his inluries today): I dislocated my middle finger and cut myindex finger.

I'm glad we started throwing, and the TD pass, I really got some goodprotection on that. That was the first time in the day when I really felt thatI could sit back there and wait for something to develop. Give the guys upfront credit, and all the guys. Their hearts are as big as this stadium, and Ilove them for that.

(Comments on building on this loss for next season'i: Yes, of course, we comeback next season and I think all the guys really believed in what we were tryingto accomplish this year——what the coaches were doing. They believed in theirhearts we were going to win today. We came close-—as close as you canpossibly come. You know next year seems like a long way away. It's sad that welost the game, but I congratulate the Pittsburgh Steelers and theirorganization. They have a fine team--a fine ball club. They have a lot of greatplayers, and I'll be pulling for them in the Super Bowl.

(Comments when leaving the field): I thought he caught it, but after I saw thereplay a couple more time, the ball looked like it hit the ground. The onereplay when I looked up and saw, and it looked like he caught it.

It was a total team effort but we came up short. You have to give Pittsburghalot of credit but guys put there heart into it.

on questionable calls by the officials:I'm not really sure I have to go back and watch the film. I just know that wefought our hearts out but came up a little short.

Can the Colts carry this momentum into next year...Definitely. Because to come so close and not get there is disappointing, butthis is something to build on for next year. I think guys know what it takes toget here and we're going to try our best to get back.

On talking to ex-teamate Kordell Stewart after the game.He just said 'great game.' He was proud of us and me and the other Coloradoguys.

On coming up short on the third and one play at the endThat was a great play by their defense. They had a corner blitz and he wasn'taccounted for and he caught us in the backfield. On the third—and—one just before the missed field goal...They just had a great defensive play on that particular play. They slanted inand I bounced it out and he made a great play.

What was said in the huddle on the final drive...

We've been there before. We've been down with our backs against the wall and westill had time and we believed we could get down there and score'.

Aaron Bailey

Was the final play a million to one shot?

Not really. Everyone thinks that we're a million to on shot to why not. + .110wthe play is designed is for Brian Stbablein, who has the highest vertical onthe team to pop the ball up in the air and I was going to come from behind andcatch the ball. Just like Kordell Stewart and Michael Westbrook did. Someonepop the ball in the air and I'd be there to catch it...Somehow it got loose.I'll have to look at the film. It is frustrating.

Describing the final play...

I had it for a split second. Between the time I was in the air I guess I bumpedinto someone else or the ground caused it but at one time I did have the balland it came out. . .me ball was tipped and then I had it for a split second. Itried to grab it with one hand because one of the Steelers' defensive playershad me straddeled in that big pile. I tried to grab it with one hand, like Isaid I had it for a split second and when I hit the ground it either caine outthen or when I was in the air I tried to bring it back to my body. . .On my waydown I had it cradled in my body.

Tony Siragusa

We're one of the most underated teams to ever go into an APt Championship and Ihave nothing but high respect for everyone in this lockerroom. We might not bechampions but in my heart everyone in this locker room is a champion.

Bow does this motivate you for nat year?

I think this team knows what they have to do and how to prepare for the biggame. I think this team prepared for this year and Ted Marchbroda will prepareus for next year the same way. When something is woring I don't think there aremany things you should change.

On getting so many tipped balls at the line of scrimmage...

Re was throwing the short slants on a three step drop and I just startedgetting my hands up and tipping some stuff. You know things started going ourway in the beginning.

On coming out of the gate fast after missing last week...

You've got two greatteams out there, I have alot of respect fothe Steelers and I know they've gotalot of respect for us.On the emotion of the game...
