Pets bring much joy to our lives, but at times, they alsobring allergies. Perscriptions for nasal spray and an inhalerin hand, over the counter non-drowsy allergy pills givemany relief. Run you comforter through the dryer week-ly to collect pet hair. An air purifier can be pricey, buthelps alot. Check with your doctor and try some of thesesuggestions before you make a life changing decision.

Letter from the DirectorOpen House Plans on Hold

Over the past 7 years we have celebrated our new facilityhere at Paws with an Open House. This year we will foregothat tradition and will be concentraing on a new venture thatwe hope will help sustain the shelter operations for the future. We of course will miss seeing everyone this September, butwill plan future events to bring everyone together.

Our new venture is a Paws Thrift Shop. We arecurrently in negoitations with a landlord to lease a space tomake this special place happen. As with many businesses,we have been faced with the reality that our facility cannotrun on adoptions alone.

The State has terminated the grants that werepreviously given to shelters for animal control. Thefundraisers for softball and golf have seen a decline inattendance and much needing funding.

We are hopeful with opening our own store that ourcommunity will support our efforts by donating and beingfrequent shoppers. Many shelters are opening stores tohelp them provide animal services and are successful. Stopby Paws to visit soon and remember to ADOPT!

WHY DO CATS NAP SO MUCH?

Cats typically sleep 12-16 hours a day,and because they’re crepuscular,

meaning they hunt atdawn or dusk, they canbe more active at night.

Salem would love to curl upwith you in a new forever home!

News Flash!!! Volunteers Needed NOW!We need volunteers who can commit to doing a variety of tasks at Paws. Our dog walking classes interest manypotential volunteers, however few return to do this important work. Getting a dog out of the cage is pricelessto that dog for the time they spend with you. Kitty Cuddlers are also important to help our staff assess whatpersonality this kitty may have in a home. Their emotional health is enhanced by the one on one experiencewith a human. The time spent prepares them for a home and family. Morning kitty cage cleaning is also a

great way to help the staff. Usually these jobs need only take a short period of time. Can you spare some time to be with the animals? Visit and learn more.

Cats often are found under cars and hoods to keep warm. Make a noise before starting the engine4. Keep your pets inside during cold weather. Report animal neglect immediately.5. Never allow pets to consume chocolate, nuts, alcohol or fatty foods.6. No onions, grapes or raisins.7. Holiday lighting and decorations can pose a serious threat. No tinsel please.8. Poinsettias, lilies, holly berries and mistletoe are poisonous to pets. 9. Keep your kitties indoors! Outside cats can freeze and become lost or injured.10.Wipe off your dog’s paws, legs and stomach after a walk.

Salt or chemicals might make your dog sick.

Kayla sewed beautiful blankets for our dogs.

Joseph donated to Paws pets for his third birthday!
