Musique Cordiale has without a doubt become one of the most significant music festivals in the Var. During the first two weeks of August, 100 musicians pour into the village of Seillans to embark on two weeks of intense music making. These musicians range from a pan-pipe player to orchestral musicians, international soloists and opera singers. In the second week, a choir made up of over 50 excellent amateur singers come to prepare and perform a challenging choral repertoire. This year there will be 27 concerts taking place in 11 villages including all those in the Communauté des Communes of the Pays de Fayence. The programme includes 9 free lunchtime concerts, 3 orchestral concerts, 2 outdoor opera performances, a variety of chamber music and a dazzling line up of soloists including Michel & Sophie Tirabosco, Bomi Song, Sophie Mather, Moritz Roelcke and Charlotte King. We are proud that our concerts continue to feature in the Culture Label of La Communauté des Communes du Pays de Fayence. The orchestral concerts will be conducted by the eminent James Lowe, recently named Chief Conductor of the Prussian Chamber Orchestra, who will return to Musique Cordiale for his second year. He will conduct an exciting Baroque programme in the church at Claviers showcasing the magnificent countertenor James Hall and the young emerging star Constantin Emanuel Zimmermann. Chiara Enderle, featured on the cover of the Musique Cordiale flyer, will play Tchaikovsky Variations for cello and orchestra in the first week and the Brahms double concerto with her father Matthias Enderle, leader of the esteemed Carmina Quartet, in the second week. The opera is always a high point of the Festival and in 2015 Puccini’s Tosca is on the menu. Mark Austin will conduct a condensed orchestra, with Laura Parfitt singing the title role, Leonel Pinheiro as her heroic Cavaradossi and Adam Green as the evil Scarpia. Directed by John Savournin, it will be fully staged and performed in Fayence and Seillans. The Festival will culminate with two performances of one of Haydn’s most magnificent oeuvres, The Creation, conducted by Graham Ross, Director of Music at Clare College Cambridge and featuring a star-studded line up of soloists including Andrew Staples, our most celebrated alumni, who will also be performing a late night recital on 14 August accompanied by pianist Alisdair Hogarth. As you can imagine, a huge amount of work is involved putting together the Festival which is done by a team of dedicated volunteers. The annual turnover of the Festival is about 150,000€, and although supported by ticket sales, local funding and a few private donors, it is nonetheless an enormous struggle to cover the costs. We therefore rely on your generosity to support the Festival by joining us on 8 July for an absolutely wonderful evening. I am really looking forward to welcoming you all. Yours with best wishes Pippa Pawlik, Artistic Director and the Musique Cordiale Team L’Association Musique Cordiale, Seillans, France The Musique Cordiale Trust UK
