1 SummaryThe market leading Mobeon M3 Series is versatile, network independent, messaging software with many possibilities.

A wide range of message types and user interfaces are provided enabling the product to support a large variety of customer offerings ranging from basic voice mail to video mail, MMS voice mail and even mobile e-mail.

The product architecture is based on IP with open Internet protocols both internally and externally. The product is designed to be extremely modular and scalable which makes feature upgrades only a matter of configuration.

Using the built-in segmentation capabilities, the operator has the opportunity to use the same Mobeon M3 Series software to offer different messaging services and capabilities to different user segments. The operator uses the Mobeon M3 Series to increase revenue, for differentiation and increased customer loyalty.

The Mobeon M3 Series offers a unified way of handling all incoming messages, such as e-mail, voicemail, fax-mail, audio-mail and video-mail at any time and from any chosen device. Since the Mobeon M3 Series is device independent, the user can choose what device to use in order to retrieve new messages. Access via fixed and mobile phones, PCs and handheld devices with WAP, web and/or e-mail client are supported using media conversion.

The user can for example use a video session to listen to voicemails, use a voice session to strip the audio stream from a video message or use a web browser to retrieve messages as email attachments. M3 will even use text-to-speech to read out emails via a voice or video call.

Notification is equally as flexible and can be set according to each user’s own preferences.

With the Mobeon M3 Series, new messages are never further than a few “clicks” away. In fact, with the MMS delivery and notification feature, e-mails, including e-mail attachments such as postcards, pictures and musical messages, can be sent directly to the users MMS enabled handset without logging in.

Other user-friendly features are e.g. call-back and calendar services.

Mobeon M3 Series can run in WCDMA, CDMA 2000, GPRS, GSM, PSTN/ISDN or Voice-over-IP networks including any simultaneous combination of the above.

2 Target groupsMobeon M3 Series is targeted towards mobile operators, fixed operators and Internet service providers wanting to be able to offer everything ranging from pure voicemail systems to advanced messaging services such as mobility enabled e-mail and video mail.

An operator already offering messaging services such as voice mail can enhance their offering by adding e-mail or video-mail services to attract new customers as well as increase customer loyalty within their existing subscriber base.

Mobeon M3 Series can naturally also be used to offer combinations of message types and interfaces, for example what is sometimes known as Unified Messaging.

3 Benefits

3.1 User benefitsWith the Mobeon M3 Series, users can access their mailbox from any device and manage their messages with a minimum of effort. This can be summarized into three main benefits: Mobility, efficiency and simplicity.

3.1.1 Mobility - Get device independent

Independent of how the caller deposited a message, the user can choose whatever retrieval method that suits him or her best in any given situation.

After the called user gets notified of new mail, the message can be picked up using any device. The user can e.g. use any telephone to listen to voice mail or e-mail using text-to-speech functionality.

Also a WAP phone or PDA with WAP capability can be used to login to the mailbox and read e-mail. Advanced WAP functionality such as WAP push is used to enhance the user experience.

A business user with access to e.g. a hotel fax machine can use it to retrieve fax mail or even print e-mails.

Any Internet connected PC with a web browser can be used to login to the mailbox and read/listen to or view messages such as e-mail, fax mail, voice mail or video mail. Pictures and audio mail attachments can also be handled. Since all messages are handled in the e-mail format any standard e-mail client, such as Microsoft Outlook, can also be used to access the mailbox.

The user can, in addition to this, perform mailbox administration and e-mail handling such as forward, reply and delete from a WAP phone, PDA, PC with Internet connection or telephone.

3.1.2 Efficiency – Get control of your message overload

The Mobeon M3 Series allows the users to get a grip on their messages. With a quick glance or listening session, the user can get an idea of the full mail list, thus making it easier to have control of all handled and not handled messages. The Mobeon M3 Series enables the user to create folders where messages can be stored and archived for future reference, thus keeping the inbox clean.

By the use of subscriber defined notification filters the user can decide exactly how and when to be notified furthering increasing the usability of the service.

MMS notification and delivery gives the user with a Multimedia Messaging capable phone the possibility to have e-mails with pictures and sound attachments directly forwarded to the MMS phone. This allows the user to avoid having to login to access new e-mails. The original e-mail remains in the user mailbox, thus giving the user a totally flexible message handling.

3.1.3 Simplicity – Easy mailbox handling

The Mobeon M3 Series has an easy and intuitive user interface, regardless of how the user chooses to access the mailbox. Mailbox handling within M3 is simplified with features such as:

• WAP Push notifications with direct login links

• Simple and logical user menus

• First time user guiding prompts

Even advanced features such as Fun Greetings are greatly simplified with all the usual complexity removed. Rather than resolving lost password issues and turning off telephones for an IVR to dial in, the M3 system supports subscribers with one-click selection of greetings and instant activation.

3.2 Operator benefits

3.2.1 Increase traffic through new messaging services

The operator will experience increased traffic in both voice and data by providing mobile messaging services. Call completion will increase through better notification of missed calls and adoption of pay-per-use features.

A vast variety of notification types ensure that the subscriber will access and retrieve the messages.

The notification and delivery service via Multimedia Messaging Services, MMS, gives e-mail a new dimension with pictures and sound. This new opportunity will both increase MMS awareness as well as enhance MMS usage even further.

The addition of Video Telephony support is also of key importance to those operators trialling or launching 3G services. We now provide a video mailbox capability to allow video calls to be terminated on the M3 Series.

M3 also provides support for driving call completion in networks where voicemail utilization is low. Features such as Slam-down Information and Missed Call Notification all help to drive revenues in pre-paid or developing markets.

3.2.2 Target new lucrative market segments with tailor made offerings

Video messaging, MMS integration and interactive web interfaces open up a new dimension to messaging. With new, youth oriented features such as mobile buddies, fun greetings and mobile email, the operator gets a good opportunity to attract new market segments.

The Mobeon M3 Series also enables the operator to enter new business areas. The flexible class of service creations makes it extremely easy to form packages targeted at specific user segments.

3.2.3 Component based messaging system

With M3-powered systems, an operator no longer needs to divide the network into messaging nodes and to deploy complex and complete messaging systems into each.

The component based architecture with only open protocols creates an extremely flexible system that can be quickly deployed into any network no matter how distributed it is.

The components can be distributed or centralised to reduce backbone traffic. Systems scales by adding additional instances of the components as needed to support the traffic with load sharing across the entire network.

Advanced integration to external nodes or applications is also made extremely easy with the consistent internal and external use of standard protocols.

3.2.4 Modular and open Architecture

By designing software to run on off-the-shelf hardware, we help our partners guarantee the latest technology is delivered and ensure capability with future technologies. It also guarantees that the HW price performance ratio will follow the industry standard.

The Mobeon M3 Series has a component-based software architecture allowing the operator to add more capacity only when and where it is needed.

3.2.5 A 3G ready mobile messaging solution

The operator who wants to be successful in the market has to be able to keep on attracting users with new ways of communication. 3G networks allow new bandwidth heavy features such as video greetings to be transported quickly to their destination. To keep cost of ownership down, it is important to be able to grow your messaging system, not only in size, but also in functionality.

Mobeon M3 Series software is built in a modular way on an IP base with standard interfaces. This makes it easy to add new features and applications to a solid platform.

The solution is designed and proven for 2, 2.5 and 3G networks; the architecture allows unlimited scalability and supports storage and managing of bandwidth heavy applications such as video mail and picture mail.

3.2.6 IMS Phase One Support (preview)

Mobeon M3 Series delivers the first phase of IMS support with a number of key technology introductions. Available for demonstration, the M3 platform provides for evaluation of the following capabilities.

• SIP (Session Initiated Protocol) support. SIP is an alternative protocol to H.263 and is becoming increasingly important for voice-over-IP and IMS networks.

• VoiceXML. This new protocol is becoming increasingly important as an open mark-up language for telephony applications.

IMS support is built using our next-generation VoiceXML architecture. This provides four key call flow design and execution engines.

4 Solution OverviewThe Mobeon M3 Series enables versatile, network independent, messaging systems to be built onto industry standard hardware. M3 Powered systems can be configured to support a wide range of messaging needs ranging from pure voicemail or video-mail to any variety of combinations of message types and interfaces.

By selecting different access capabilities, features and functions, the operator will be able to configure the M3 Series according to his/her needs. This outstanding modularity is naturally reflected in how the resultant systems are priced and sold.

This chapter is divided into “user access”, “other features and functions” and “operator features and functions”.

4.1 User accessThe Mobeon M3 Series can be accessed by different access types and through different user devices/interfaces. The access types have been structured as follows:

• Voice mail access

• Video mail access

• Fax mail access

• E-mail access

All user access types are optional, but naturally at least one is needed to enable access to the system. Each user in the system can have one or several of the above access types enabled. This is managed using the advanced class-of-service capabilities in Mobeon M3 Series software.

4.1.1 Voice mail access

Through voice mail access, messages can be accessed from any telephony device, such as mobile handset, fixed phone or even an IP phone, using the telephony user interface.

4.1.2 Telephony User Interface

The Telephony User Interface (TUI) is a prerequisite not only for voice mail access, but also for advanced messaging services, such as the Text-to-speech option.

The TUI enables unanswered voice calls to be forwarded to the user’s mailbox. The user can dial into the mailbox and listen to new voice mails or even e-mails. The messages may be forwarded, replied to using voice answer to e-mail and deleted. The user can also choose to make a direct call-back to a voice mail sender without leaving the mailbox using the call handling option. After finishing the call the user can go back listening to the next message in order.

User input to the voicemail session is done using the telephone keys (DTMF).

Mailbox administration such as change of personal greeting and change of password can be handled from the telephone.

The Mobeon M3 Series also enables system wide announcement capabilities. This makes it possible to send information as voice messages to a group of subscribers, who can retrieve the messages using the TUI. Groups can be defined as Community, Class of Service and Mail Host. The function is available on system level for all subscribers.

4.1.3 Fax mail access

Through fax mail access, messages can be accessed from any fax device using the fax interface.

With a fax machine the user can receive fax mail as well as print out received e-mails.

The telephony user interface is also a prerequisite for Fax mail access.

4.1.4 Video mail access

Through Video mail access, messages can be accessed from any video telephony device, such as WCDMA Video Telephony enabled handset, or even an IP Video Telephone, using the Video User interface (VUI).

4.1.5 Video User Interface

The Video User Interface (VUI) is a prerequisite for video mail access, but also supports converged messaging services such as voicemail, fax mail and Text-to-speech. Unanswered video telephony calls can be routed to the M3 system where a video greeting is played and a video message is recorded.

Notification and retrieval of both voice and video mails are naturally supported. The user can access the mailbox and watch video mails, listen to voice mails or even e-mails using text-to-speech. The messages may be forwarded, replied to and deleted.

Video mail also gives similar operator benefits as voicemail, i.e:

• Increased Call completion (every call is completed)

• Increased traffic (each call will generate 2 new ones)

• And thus increased revenues (due to more chargeable traffic).

However, video mail will also help increase video telephony take up. Video telephony capable telephone penetration will initially be limited, and even users that have these phones, might from time to time be e.g. busy or not available. By providing them, as well as non-3G users or even PC users, with a video mail box, the number of “call-able” users are dramatically increased.

If each new WCDMA user’s first ever attempt to make a video call is successful, the likelihood to soon make another one, and thus a fast video telephony take up, is much greater!

4.1.6 Mobile Buddies

M3 software includes integrated support and professional services for the creation and provisioning of mobile buddies within the video and MMS interface.

Mobile Buddues are 3D animated characters that replace the traditional voicemail voice with a range of selectable characters. Each character provides a customised video experience and can be selected via the configuration setting of the mailbox.

Mobile Buddies present a unique opportunity for the mobile operator to differentiate their service and build a relationship with the important youth segment.

4.1.7 Web Interface

The Web Interface supports web browsers such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer. This gives the user the possibility to connect to the Internet for reading e-mails, listening to voice mail through the standard media player, reading fax mail and viewing video mail. The user can reply to, forward, search, folder and delete the messages in his or her personal mailbox.

The Mobeon M3 Series IP includes “Single Sign On from Web” functionality, which makes it possible to accept cookie information regarding user id and password in the Ericsson Service Network Framework (SNF) environment.

The user can also manage the address book, send SMS and take use of the calendar services as well as do personal settings such as changing of password and notification filters etc.

The feature External POP/IMAP enables e-mail users to fetch emails from external mail providers using POP3/IMAP4 access.

The subscriber can add new and configure existing external POP3/IMAP4 accounts from WEB or WAP.

4.1.8 E-mail access

Through e-mail, messages can be accessed from any mobile device or Internet connected PC using one or several of the following interfaces:

• Web

• WAP interface

• xHTML Basic / Pocket PC interface

• E-mail client (POP3/IMAP4)

The WAP Interface gives access capabilities to any mobile telephone or Personal Digital Assistant, PDA, with a WAP browser supporting WAP 1.1 or 1.2 standard.

The WAP enabled handset gives the user the possibility to manage e-mails such as read, send, reply, and forward, use the address book and change personal settings using a WAP interface.

WAP push can be used for sending an URL with a notification of new e-mail in the mailbox to the WAP capable phone. The e-mail will be easily available for reading by selecting the sent URL path to the mailbox.

Mobeon M3 Series offers handset negotiation possibilities. The sent WAP information is then adapted to the used WAP handset. This enables for specific adaptations of the WAP interface to take use of new terminal features in marketing campaigns.

4.1.9 IMAP Voicemail Client

The IMAP Voicemail Client uses the GPRS interface to connect handsets to the M3 system and present all messages in a richer, simpler format. Targeting enterprise users who typically receive a lot of messages, the client allows for a graphical representation of the mailbox contents to be displayed on the handset and for individual voice messages to be selected, reviewed, forwarded or deleted. Downloading of messages can be performed during regular polling, or alternatively downloaded on demand from downloaded headers.

The IMAP Voicemail Client can be deployed on any handset with an IMAP client however only those with a .wav media player can download and listen to

messages.

4.1.10 xHTML/Pocket PC Interface

The xHTML/Pocket PC Interface supports mobile web browsers available for smart phones or Internet connected PDA’s such as the SonyEricsson P900 and Microsoft Pocket PC devices.

This gives the mobile user the possibility to connect to the Internet for reading e-mails, listening to voice mail (depending on media player capabilities), reading fax mail and viewing video mail. The user can reply to, forward, folder and delete the messages in his or her personal mailbox.

The user can also manage the address book as well as do personal settings such as changing of password and notification filters etc.

4.2 Other features and functionsMost features and functions in the Mobeon M3 Series are optional. Depending on what configuration is chosen, different features and functions may be possible to include. For a complete list of features available for each access type, please refer to the System Overview, Feature Description and/or Product Family Description (ref 1, 2 & 3).

4.2.1 General

In the Mobeon M3 Series all mails are from a technical point of view e-mails with different types of attachments. Voice mail is an e-mail with a WAV attachment, fax mail is an e-mail with TIF attachment, video mail is an e-mail with a video encoded attachment and so on. Mobeon M3 Series can in effect handle any MIME coded attachments, supporting numerous music, picture and video formats.

4.2.2 Message handling

Messaging handling is a standard feature in the Mobeon M3 Series software The chosen system configuration, i.e. what interfaces and access capabilities that are included in the system, will determine which of the below message handling features that are valid. See also listing under user interfaces in previous chapter.

4.2.3 Voice mail handling

Voice mail management using the TUI contains the basic functionality for:

• Login to mailbox and listen to voice mail

• Play, re-play, delete, undelete, reply, fast forward and rewind messages in mailbox

• Get sender's phone number as SMS This is a great new function, that enables the mailbox holder to request an SMS with the telephone number of the depositor of the message they are listening to. This enables easier call set-up once the voicemail session is completed.

• Profile management including the following personal settings – personal greetings, password, notification types and filtering

4.2.4 Video mail handling

Video mail management using the VUI contains the basic functionality for

4.2.5 E-mail handling

E-mail management, using the web and WAP interfaces, contains the commonly known management possibilities including:

• List and read or view e-mail with attachments

• Send, receive, and forward e-mail messages as well as Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME) messages

4.2.6 Address book management

The address book simplifies message management since the users have easy access to information on colleagues, family or friends. It provides the user with the ability to add, delete, update and view in the address book. The address book is located on a server, which will enable the subscriber to access the address book from any handset connected to the Internet using WAP or web browser. The address book described is a personal address book.

The user can also download vCards from an e-mail to update the address-book.

4.2.7 Profile management

Profile management includes the following personal settings:

• Changing preferred language

• Changing password

• Changing distribution lists

• Changing notification types and preferred filtering

• Changing number to call attendant

• Changing activation of auto-forward services

The use of different user handsets, as well as interfaces, to access the personal settings management may put a limit to the number of available changes the user can do. Change of preferred language is for example done using the web interface, whereas change of personal greeting is done using the telephony interface.

4.2.8 Change CoS from TUI and VUI

M3 software provides the ability for the subscriber to change their CoS from TUI and/or VUI. This feature will deliver the needed foundation to which the Customer Adaptation TUI/VUI prompting and CoS change rules is based on.

4.2.9 Call handling (Optional)

The Mobeon M3 Series software offers a set of powerful options through the call handling. The subscriber can return a call while listening to a voice-mail, or when e-mail is being read out using text to speech. The following features are included.

Call back

The subscriber can, with a click of a button, call the sender of the voice-mail. Once the call is completed, the subscriber is returned to the message he was listening to.

Make a call

This feature is very similar to the Call back feature, but enables the user to make a call to any number during mailbox access, not just the originator of the voicemail.

In deposit mode, a call-back number can be provided if the caller wants to be contacted on a telephone number different from the one used when leaving the message. The function is available on COS level.

4.2.10 Future delivery (Optional)

This feature gives the subscribers the opportunity, after login, to record a voicemail, or video mail, to another subscriber in the system and have it delivered at a predefined time.

The function is available on COS level.

4.2.11 Multiline (Optional)

Subscribers can have multiple telephone numbers connected to the same mailbox. A personal greeting can be recorded for each telephone number. Subscriber can administer settings for the different numbers using the web interface and TUI.

Multiline is a powerful feature that drives convergence between fixed and mobile networks. For the user, multiline makes it easier to retrieve new messages, with only one mailbox to check. When the user receives notifications to the mobile phone, also for new messages received on the fixed phone, this will lead to increased, bill-able, traffic in the mobile network rather than in the fixed network. It thus increases operator revenues.

Multiline will also increase customer retention. Users will be less likely to change operator, since they will then loose the Multiline service.

Multiline can also be combined with Family Mailbox, see chapter 4.2.11 below.

The function is available on COS level.

4.2.12 Family Mailbox (Optional)

The family mailbox will provide several persons sharing a common telephone number the possibility to each have an own personal mailbox associated with that number. The most obvious case would be family members sharing a fixed phone number.

Each member of the family mailbox is offered the same functionality as a normal mailbox, i.e. each member has a personal mailbox, PIN, greeting message etc.

It is possible to have nine personal mailboxes and one Group Mailbox associated with a single family mailbox telephone number.

The Family mailbox feature can also be combined with Multiline, see chapter 4.2.10, enabling e.g. family members to have the same mailbox both on their own mobile phones AND on the fixed home phone.

The function is available on COS level.

4.2.13 MMS Voicemail (Optional)

MMS Voicemail enables the user to receive voicemail messages directly to the mobile phone as an MMS, instead of having to call the voicemail system to listen to them. The MMS can contain SMIL content (images etc) in addition to the voicemail audio file, giving the user a more user friendly and fun experience.

The user can change MMS notification settings using TUI, VUI or a web browser.

Notification and delivery over MMS is possible not only for voicemail audio files, but also for virtually any Multimedia e-mail attachments. Examples of attachments supported by the MMS standard are pictures (JPEG with JFIF, GIF and WBMP) video (3gp and mp4) and sound (AMR) of a certain pre-set size.

When the multimedia message is received, it is pushed into the memory (mailbox) within the handset.

A prerequisite for this service is an MMS capable handset and an MMS-C to perform the actual notification and delivery. The MMS-C will put a restriction on the maximum size of message notifications sent out. Different user handsets may support a selection of the attachment types supported by the system.

4.2.14 Web access (Optional)

This optional feature provides the voicemail only user, or video mail only users, with the ability to access the mailbox using a web browser. The user can retrieve and delete voice, or video, messages, but the more advanced features in the full web access are disabled.

The function is available on COS level.

4.2.15 Fun greetings (Optional)

This function makes it possible for the subscribers to select a pre-recorded fun greeting, e.g. a famous voice or video clip, using the TUI or VUI, and activate the greeting as either all calls, busy or no-answer greeting. Licensed sound bites or video clips can also be downloaded from favorite celebrities, using external greeting providers. Fun greetings enable revenue growth, particularly from the youth segment.

4.2.16 Caller Specific Greetings (Optional)

This feature allows a caller to develop a library of voice, video or fun greetings and to select which greeting is played to which caller. In this way a personal greeting can be played to a spouse, fun greetings to friends and formal greetings to unknown callers.

4.2.17 Temporary Greetings

Subscribers can set up a Temporary Greeting that they can activate to take the place of their default personal greeting. Subscribers can use Temporary Greetings to acknowledge a specific holiday, to let other others know that they are away and for many other reasons. Subscribers can activate, deactivate and modify their Temporary Greeting at any time. By having a Temporary Greeting subscribers avoid rerecording their standard greeting (into which some effort may have been invested), when they return to their normal routine. Subscribers simply turn their temporary greeting on or off as desired.

4.2.18 Text-to-speech retrieval (Optional)

To gain ultimate flexibility and mobility, any fixed or mobile telephone can be used to listen to e-mails by the use of the optional text-to-speech retrieval feature. The user can choose to listen to only the header, or the entire message. This feature is very useful in situations where the user does not have access to a PC, for example in the car.

The Mobeon M3 Series currently supports 19 different languages; American English, British English, Korean, Japanese, Belgian Dutch, Dutch (Netherlands), French, German, Polish, Italian, Castilian Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Mandarin Chinese and Hong Kong Cantonese. The user can change text-to-speech language during the session by using the telephony keys (DTMF)

4.2.19 Basic Notifications

Basic notification capabilities are included as standard functionality in the Mobeon M3 Series, and include the following notification methods:

• SMS notification and delivery

• WAP push notification

The SMS notification can contain information about the e-mail including sender, size and the number of attachments. SMS notification enables users to get a grip on their mailbox contents without logging in. The notification can be subject to filtering using criteria such as sender, urgent flags and subject.

SMS can also be used as a delivery channel for the textual content of a received mail. Long mails are truncated to fit into the SMS format.

The user with a WAP handset can chose to get notified of new messages using WAP push notification. The user will then receive a direct link to his or her mailbox where the message can be read, viewed or listened to.

4.2.20 Fixed network MWI (Optional)

The optional fixed network MWI makes it possible for a user to receive notifications about new mails to his/her fixed PSTN/ISDN telephone. The notification can, depending on network and device capabilities, be a stuttered dial tone, flashing light or a graphical icon on the telephone display.

A prerequisite for this service is that the user is connected to a PSTN/ISDN network that supports MWI for fixed networks.

4.2.21 Mobile network MWI (SMS) (Optional)

When MWI (Messaging Waiting Indicator) is activated, the user will receive a MWI when a voice-mail arrives to the mailbox. When the user makes a login and starts to listen to the message(s), the system sends the message to the telephone that the subscriber has no message. This will be the case even if the subscriber does not listen to all messages. If MWI is not activated, a normal SMS message is sent out to the mobile telephone

A prerequisite for this service is that the user is connected to a mobile network that supports MWI.

4.2.22 Advanced Notification Suite (Optional)The Mobeon M3 Series also includes an optional package of advanced notification capabilities. The following notification features are included in this option:

• Outdial Notification (voice)

• Call MWI notification

• Paging Notification

• Cut through paging

4.2.23 Outdial notification (voice) (Optional)

With Outdial notification the user will be notified by a voice prompt to the phone when a new mail arrives in the user’s mailbox. The notification can contain information about the voice mail including number of new messages, sender, size and number of attachments.

4.2.24 Call MWI notification (Optional)

The Call MWI notification is a complement to the fixed network MWI feature described in chapter 4.2.18. It makes it possible for a user to receive notifications about new mails to his/her fixed PSTN/ISDN telephone.

To indicate a new message is waiting; the system calls the subscriber’s fixed line number to leave the original message depositor number - or an operator number - on the display of the subscriber’s phone or caller id display.

4.2.25 Paging notification (Optional)

Introduced earlier in the Mobeon M3 Series, this notification type provides notification of new messages using Paging technology. This way the mailbox owner can choose to receive notifications to a pager, rather than to a mobile phone.

The notification will consist of a predefined number, such as the caller’s telephone number, or the number to the mailbox retrieval service.

4.2.26 Cut through paging (Optional)

Cut through paging was introduced earlier in the Mobeon M3 Series aimed at providing improved support for users that are e.g. unaccustomed or unwilling to leaving voicemails. Callers can, instead of leaving a voice message, through Interactive Voice Responses (IVR), interrupt the greeting send a telephone number as SMS to the mailbox owner. The caller can choose to send either their own number, or specify any telephone number.

This feature is therefore suitable for markets with low voicemail penetration and/or voicemail acceptance. It increases operator revenues due to increased bill-able traffic and increases customer satisfaction.

4.2.27 Slamdown information (Optional)

Some callers hang up before they have even listened to the full voicemail greeting. In Mobeon M3 Series it is possible to send an SMS to the called user with the phone number of the calling party who does not leave a voice mail or video mail.Slamdown information is another feature, particularly suitable for markets with low voicemail penetration and/or voicemail acceptance, since it captures call information also from callers that are reluctant to “talk to a machine”.

It increases operator revenues due to increased bill-able traffic as well as increases customer satisfaction.

4.2.28 Indication to calling party of non retrieved messages

A notification indicating that the recipient has not retrieved a previously left voice message can be given to the calling party. If a voice message has not been listen to or deleted after one day (configurable) the system sends a voice message to the calling party, which is placed in the inbox. The system also initiates a notification according to the notification settings.

4.2.29 Flash SMS (Optional)

M3 now support Flash SMS as notification type. Flash SMS is the same as SMS Class 0. Flash SMS means that a SMS is sent to the mobile terminal and is displayed directly without user intervention.

4.2.30 Missed Call Notification (Optional)

To better support users that are e.g. unaccustomed to leaving voicemails, a new feature was previously introduced in the Mobeon M3 Series. Callers can, instead of leaving a voice message, through Interactive Voice Responses (IVR) send a telephone nr as SMS to both subscribers and non-subscribers in the system. The caller can choose to send either their own number, or specify any telephone number.

4.2.31 Change Language from TUI & VUI

This feature allows a subscriber to change the language of the IVR via the Telephony User Interface (TUI) as well as via the Video User Interface (VUI). Both within the initial configuration wizard and during a subsequent IVR session, them menu will allow multilingual countries to avoid provisioning a separate CoS for each language.

4.2.32 Calendar (Optional)

The web-based calendar option is integrated with the web user interface for the Mobeon M3 Series. Appointments, events and alike can be handled by the calendar function. The normal editing functions are available and when an appointment is due the user gets an e-mail and SMS notification according to notification settings. Entries can be tagged as different categories. Invitation is supported where call for meetings can be issued. After confirmation the appointment is entered in invited subscribers’ calendars.

The task list handles tasks that are defined. Tasks are entered with a start date and a deadline. The tasks can be tagged with priority. Other subscribers in a group can view tasks.

4.2.33 Fax mail management (Optional)

A fax mail subscriber is given a personal fax number used by the calling party to deposit fax messages. Incoming fax mail messages are placed in the subscriber’s mailbox.

Using the TUI, this is some of the fax mail management that can be performed:

The subscriber can redirect fax messages for printing from the subscriber’s mailbox to a default fax machine or any nearby fax while on the move, by manually entering the fax number via DTMF.

The subscriber can forward the current fax message to another subscriber in the system or to a group of subscribers in the system using a distribution list.

The subscriber can configure the service to play the header of the current fax message and get information regarding the message, such as sender (if the number is available), date and time received and number of pages.

4.3.2 Flexible Telephony and Video User Interfaces

The latest release of the Mobeon M3 Series includes flexible Telephony User Interface, TUI aimed for adaptations to suit any operator interface requirement. This includes:

• Improved flexibility for choice of language per subscription

• 19 languages as standard for text-to-speech

• Preparation for inclusion of ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition)

When using the Mobeon M3 Series to replace any legacy voicemail system, the state-of-the art adaptability of the telephony interface will enable the operator to offer the users a seamless upgrade to Mobeon M3 Series. The voice prompt tree structure is easily replicated. In the latest release, support is given for adaptations to be performed within the Ericsson organization.

The Mobeon M3 Series also includes a new, unique Video User Interface that enables the operator to offer an avatar-driven multimodal IVR with DTMF support. This complements the IVR voice with a network characterisation providing a richer and more involved man/machine interaction.

4.3.3 Voice & video prompts adaptation to operators own voice and video talent

Many operators want to use their own voice talent reading the system prompts. There is a specified procedure to handle the recording and prompts conversion for use in the Mobeon M3 Series. Normally, the operator handles the selection of voice talent and the voice recording, however Mobeon can also offer support for these activities. The same applies also for video prompts.

4.3.4 New language for voice and video prompts

This option offers possibility for customer specific language adaptations of the voice prompts. There is a specified procedure for translation, voice prompt recording and prompts conversion for use in the Mobeon M3 Series.Normally the operator handles the translation, selection of voice talent and the voice recording, however Mobeon can also offer support for these activities. The same applies also for video prompts.

MIN (Mobile Identity Number) added as attribute in MUR (Messaging User Registry) to be able to identify calling party based on MIN number. MIN is a number that is used only by the operator. The Mobile Indetity Number is not known by, nor displayed, to the user.

4.3.8 SPAM and Antivirus (Optional)

The recommendations for Anti SPAM sofware for M3 are:

4.3.9 Billing Prevention Tone

This feature provides the capability for all calls to be diverted to the M3 software which will provide an announcement to the caller that after a tone, billing will commence. The M3 software then plays a tone and if the caller is still connected after the tone, then the connect event is provided to the billing system.

4.3.10 Operation & Maintenance

The Mobeon M3 Series includes different Management Information Bases, MIBs, and provides Simple Network Management Protocol, SNMP including accesses, traps, monitoring (read-only), and configuration (read-only or read-write variables).

The application correlates the traps to minimise the number of alarms and to display the root cause. The application also monitors different parameters such as disk utilisation, traffic activity, application status and web and WAP gauges.

The SNMP interface is available for an external network management system, such as HP Open view, but the Mobeon M3 Series system can also be managed by the use of web interface or console.

The Mobeon M3 Series open interfaces make it possible to connect to different management systems

4.3.11 Provisioning

The provisioning in the Mobeon M3 Series is carried out via web interface or LDAP or using a text based interface. The web interface includes templates for user profile that can be used to minimise input fields. LDIF is used for bulk loading and editing of subscribers. A text based interface for user provisioning (create, delete, retrieve and modify) is also introduced as an alternative to LDAP.

The Mobeon M3 Series can handle provisioning using the systems such as the Ericsson Multi Activation node (formerly SOG). Other provisioning nodes can be integrated after a small customer adaptation.

It is also possible to move subscribers from one mail server to another mail server within same system.

4.3.12 Billing

Traffic data is logged and may be retrieved from readable files, which are sent out simultaneously to an external billing system using RADIUS accounting.

Billing for features related to the TUI such as voice mail is suggested to be handled through the information available in the switch.

Traffic data can also be collected by an external system via FTP.

4.3.13 IP Connection to HLR

This feature provides a text based IP Connection to HLR functionality. When implemented in a network, this feature allows the subscriber to perform self configuration of network settings and modify notification logic dependent on roaming status..

4.3.14 Virtual Private Messaging Networks

With VPMN the service provider can open up the messaging network to virtual operators or small and medium sized enterprises.

Every VPMN has it’s own sub-group in the user register and it’s own user administrators. The sub-group user administrators can add and remove users and change class of service within the thresholds set by the super user administrator of the operator. Different subgroups can have access to different features to choose from in the Class of Service.

There is no visibility between the different VPMNs.

4.3.15 Security

The Mobeon M3 Series has a number of built in features as security measures. The basic idea is to protect the system from un-authorized usage and keep the information intact. M3 supports several levels of security from different aspects, such as:

• User security (user authentication and access to user data)

• Operator security (intranet, communication, protecting the network, nodes and services)

4.3.16 User security

Web and WAP access: A valid user name and password is always required. Unsuccessful logins are stored and can be analyzed afterwards. After a configurable number of unsuccessful logins, the user will be locked out for 30 minutes and then the account is unlocked again.

Telephony access: PIN-codes are used for authentication of users. If the A-number is not recognized or is not present, the caller is asked to enter his/her phone number and PIN-code. After a configurable number of unsuccessful logins the user will be locked out, and the account can only be opened by customer care.

Passwords and pin codes are stored encrypted in the user directory. User data (messages) in message stores are password protected.

The Mobeon M3 Series software configuration includes support for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS), by fronting the Web interface with an SSL accelerator. The Mobeon M3 Series supports SSLv2 and SSLv3.

4.3.17 Operator security

The system deployment includes security aspects on the infrastructure, such as:

• Use of VLANs, to having different parts of the system in separate virtual LANs, including DMZ (Demilitarized zones).

• Firewalls to protect the system from un-authorized access from Internet

• Switches can be configured for filtering.

• NAT (Network Address Translation) addressing is used for keeping IP addresses internal. Only a few public IP addresses are needed.

• O&M traffic can be deployed using separate VLANs. SSH (secure shell) can be used for secure administration of the system. The authenticity of the operator/user is checked for all system operations.

5 Technical Specification

5.1 System ArchitectureThe whole system is built around an IP backbone. The components and the backbone can reside in only one physical location or be spread around in several physical locations. At each installation, the components communicate over the backbone network using Internet based protocols. There could be one, two or several instances of a single component depending of scalability requirements. The Mobeon M3 Series is connected to related external units such as an MSC, or a PSTN switch, via the Messaging Telephony gateway, MTG. The MTG supports telephony accesses to the system from GSM, WCDMA, CDMA2000 or PSTN networks. The WAP Gateway Proxy is not a part of the M3 system, but is needed to support WAP accesses to the system. This is also valid for the SMS-C and MMS-C.

The Mobeon M3 Series uses standard off-the-shelf commercial hardware, mainly SUN hardware running on Unix operative system. It is possible to install M3 on NEBS compliant hardware and hosts.

The availability for those blocks are known and together with the M3 application software, base for the calculations of the total system availability. Estimation of MTTR can vary from installation to installation, depending on the site-specific agreement.

The System Availability for a Service Category and for a total Mobeon M3 Series system is the period (in minutes) during which no critical errors occurred on the system divided by the total length of time (in minutes) of the Availability period. The System Availability is expressed in percent for an Availability Period and for a specific Service Category. The System Availability is measured at the access points.

There are three levels of system availability

• Standard Systems

• Semi Redundant Systems

• High Availability Systems

5.2.1 Standard System Availability

The Standard System is built up of blocks consisting of industry standard equipment (e.g. SUN computers) with very high availability. Some redundancy is built in into the individual blocks resulting in a high total availability for a the Mobeon M3 Series software. The Standard System family is the alternative with the lowest price. Typical value of ISP 99.839% according to the Mobeon M3 Series availability assumptions.

5.2.2 SR (Semi Redundant) Availability (Optional)

The Semi Redundant System adds a number of duplicated components on top of the Standard System to increase the total system availability. The Messaging User Register has got increased redundancy. Redundant load balancers have been added and a redundant Summit/Alpine switch has been added. System delivered with predicted over all system availability of 99.870% for traffic affecting components.

5.2.3 HA (High Availability) (Optional)

The High Availability System has redundancy for all critical building blocks. The handling of the system to get the very high availability is automated. The High Availability System is the alternative for extreme requirements regarding availability. The system is delivered with a predicted over all system availability of 99.999% for traffic affecting components.

5.2.4 In Service Performance Measurement

The Mobeon M3 Series provides new In-Service-Performance (ISP) monitoring and reporting. The MEMA polls performance figures from traffic components via SNMP, and exports them in XML files that can be collected and post processed by the operator.
