The Headstockis the heart of the machine! The TITAN headstock boasts aunique design, it both swivels and slides allowing you to stand in the most efficient position when turning. Re-positioning is effortless using the cam action locking, no need for additional tools. A locking pin on the position guide slider means you can alwayslocate the zero position. Thelow motor mounting helps pro-vide stability and reducespindle loads and moving driveparts are shielded. The drivebelt can be changed withoutdismantling the spindle. Extralarge, maintenance-free, double row angular contact

ball bearings ensure extremely quiet and smooth running. A massive 60mm diameterspindle with 15mm centrebore. M33/DIN800 spindlethread, hardened for durability(other spindle thread sizesavailable up to M50 on request). MT2 hardenedMorse taper for use of drivecentres and drill chucks. 2-step Poly-V-pulley drive, reduction 3:1. Clutch functiongives optimum transmission of power as well as improvedsafety. The extremely large distance of 390mm betweenbearings coupled with the distortion-free steel housingensures smooth rotation without twist effects and with

minimal noise. These lathes really are very quiet. 315mm or 400mm swing overbed. All this makes it possibleto work on wood of diametersup to 780mm over the bed. This means that you can safelysupport even very large pieceswith the tailstock, thus savingmoney and workspace as anoutboard attachment is not required, diameters of up to2m are workable by turningthe headstock through 90 degrees.

Additional features Easy adjustment of motorQuick access to pulleys Integrated 48 position indexing with coloured scale

and lock at all 48 positions for routing, drilling and carving. The compact, super slim design of the lathe construction allows perfectease of access over the wholeof your work piece from boththe headstock and tailstockends. The enormous spindle heights of 315mm & 400 mmrespectively enable the turningof large pieces with tailstocksupport. No need for an additional outboard attachment saving both space and additional expense. The sliding headstock also allows tool-less adjustment for use as a bowl lathe for long hollow vessels.

Searching for the best wood-turning lathe? TITAN is the answer. Over 30 years of wood-turning lathe design experience has been incorporated into the new MAGMA BLACK LINE TITAN. A beautiful, high specification lathe that offers flexibility and quality.

The TailstockSolid cam action clamping, large, free-moving handwheel.Hollow quill with 9mm centrehole. Long quill travel of200mm. The extra slim construction and accessibilityof the toolrest allows easy access to the work in progress at all times. A clear mm scale allows precision drilling. Grip-hole for easy dismounting - although inpractice dismounting it will rarely be necessary becausethe headstock can be movedeffortlessly within seconds without tools. However, if dismounting is required, thenthe retaining pin of the slidingblock will make re-positioningof the tailstock easy to perform.

The Toolrest SaddleExtremely flat constructionwith cam action clamping.Only light pressure is neededto safely secure the toolrest inany position. Toolrest stems of30mm and 40mm are cateredfor. With the headstock positioned at full inclination it is possible to work on piecesof 25cm to 40cm thickness. The clever construction ofheadstock and tailstock allowsprecise positioning of the tool-rest, even for short or thin pie-ces by making use of two possible ways of aligning it securely.

The Lathe Bed and LegsA distortion free heavy dutysteel construction with substantial box section strengthening and precisionguides made of high-alloyedhardened steel machined and polished to perfection. Ergonomically designed it allows for excellent accessibility and efficient ejection of wood shavings,500mm and 1500mm bed extensions are available. The A-frame stand has separately height adjustablelegs as standard on the Titan400 (optional extra on theTitan 315), ensuring stablesupport on less than evenflooring.

Electronics Options andspecifications:Height and angular positionadjustable invertor and control panel, housing digitalreadout, operating controlsand emergency stop switchwith 1.5kW or 2.2kW single-phase input 230 Volts(3-phase output) invertor options with shielded wiring.Large cooling fins on the inverter ensure optimum performance during extended full load use. Forward/Reverse drive, freely programmable start and brake speed. Optional breaking resistanceavailable for more aggressivebraking. Re-positionable Control Unit supplied as standard.

The enormous spindle height of315 and 400 mm respectively enables the turning of large pieceswith tailstock support.

There is no need for an additionaloutboard attachment. This savesworkspace and money. The slidingheadstock allows to use also as a

bowl lathe for long hollow vessels. The modification is done withoutthe use of tools in seconds.

Cast iron versus steelCast iron has been without doubt a useful material to builda wood turning lathe in the past and for generations it hasbeen the material of first choice in mechanical engineering. However, technology has moved on and it is now possibleto machine high-alloyed steel using diamond cutting toolsnot available in bygone days. The many types of high qualitysteel which are available today have made our choice aneasy one. After all, why use good quality casting, when the

finest quality steel is available to produce high performancemachines with top specifications for crafting woodturninglathes. These precision machines will be enjoyed by futuregenerations for many years to come, in the knowledge thatany worn parts can be exchanged for new spare parts ofthe same high quality. This could not have been guaranteed easily for broken or worn parts made of castiron because of the demand of casting molds.
