RULES OF COMPETITION PLEASE READ RULES CAREFULLY AS CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE.

ADMINISTRATION FEE WITH YOUR FIRST ENTRY
Entries printed in ballpoint pen are accepted subject to the following rules and shall
not be subject to any appeal at law or otherwise. ENQUIRIES are welcomed.
ALL COMMUNICATIONS MUST BE ADDRESSED TO THE SECRETARY AND
REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION SHOULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY A
STAMPED, ADDRESSED ENVELOPE.
1. THE CLOSING DATE FOR MUSIC ENTRIES: FRIDAY 30th June. No person
will be allowed to compete who does not pay the full entry fee at time of entry. Fees
will not be refunded in cases of non-appearance in any section or sections.
2. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
3. Age, where specified for any section, will be the competitor’s age on the FIRST
DAY OF AUGUST. DANCE COMPETITORS in solos or duo/trio sections a
COPY of their BIRTH CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY ENTRY. For
other divisions satisfactory proof of age MUST be produced, if required by the
Society.
4. All entries for DUETS/ DUOS, TRIOS MUST contain the names of ALL
COMPETITORS or the entries will not be accepted.
5. No competitor may compete more than ONCE in Solo, Duos / Duets and Trios
sections
6. No item is to be repeated. A change of music and/or costume does not constitute a
change of routine. This includes Championships; no dance is to be repeated.
7. Competitors and Accompanists ONLY will be allowed on stage during the
performance and will be admitted free ONLY to the session in which they are
competing.
8. Copies of ALL own choice selections, except Prepared Speeches, must be handed
in at the Secretary's Table before commencement of Session. PHOTOCOPIES WILL
NOT BE RETURNED. THEY WILL BE DESTROYED BY THE COMMITTEE.
9. COPYRIGHT: In making copies of recordings, sheet music and literary works,
competitors are expected to comply with APRA/AMCOS Rules. The relevant rules
are clearly set out in the guide Music Copyright for Eisteddfods, 2006 edition,

published by APRA/AMCOS, available from Locked Bag 3665, St Leonards, NSW
1590 or www.apra.com.au. The Committee will not be liable for any copyright
infringement relating to the submission of photocopies. At the time of competition,
competitors may be required to submit the following forms from Music Copyright for
Eisteddfods: Form 1 ‘Performers Declaration’, Form 2 ‘Temporary Copy for Use by
an Adjudicator’, and if necessary Form 5 ‘Temporary Use for Performance by
Accompanist’. These forms are available at the website given.
10. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry. All entries are subject to
these regulations. Competitors WILL NOT be transferred from one section to another
if incorrectly entered in the Eisteddfod unless the error is the fault of the Committee.
11. ALL TROPHIES AND SHIELDS PRESENTED FOR PERPETUAL
COMPETITION MUST BE COLLECTED & SIGNED FOR BY THE WINNER OR
AUTHORIZED PERSON and shall be held for ELEVEN months only. They must be
returned to the Custodian of Trophies one month before the first date of competition
each year. Holders of Trophies and Shields will be held responsible for the safe
custody and return of the Trophy/Shield at their own expense and Trophy/Shield must
be repaired or replaced in the event of damage or loss. The ENGRAVING of all
perpetual trophies/shields is the responsibility of the winners.
12. Prizes will be awarded depending on the number of entries received.
• 8 or more competitors: 1st, 2nd & 3rd Prizes
• 5-7 competitors: 1st & 2nd
• 4 or less: 1st
Very Highly Commended and Highly Commended may be awarded regardless of numbers
competing.
For Group, Choral, Ensemble or Troupe sections 1st, 2nd and 3rd places may be awarded
regardless of the number of entrants.
ALL AWARDS ARE AT THE ADJUDICATOR'S DISCRETION.
13. Where cash prizes are offered, prize money may be reduced if less than 8 entries
are received for the sections. The number of prizes available will be dependent on the
number of entries received in that section.
14. ALL AGGREGATES will be calculated on the basis of FIVE points for 1st,
FOUR points for 2nd, and THREE points for 3rd, TWO points for VHC and ONE
point for HC. In the event of a tie the winner will be THE COMPETITOR WITH
THE HIGHEST AVERAGE ADJUDICATOR'S MARK IN ALL QUALIFYING
SECTIONS.
15. In order to ensure a high standard of own choice items, credit will be given for the
quality of selection. Competitors should ensure that items presented cannot be
construed as being OFFENSIVE or DISCRIMINATORY.
16. Competitors heard out of section will NOT qualify for marks or eligibility for
championships/aggregates, however they will receive an Adjudicator's report.

17. The Committee reserves the right to amend the programme at any time without
notification.
18. All Scholarship Monies MUST be claimed within TWO YEARS of being
awarded otherwise such monies will be FORFEITED.
19. The use of PRIVATE VIDEO EQUIPMENT or DIGITAL CAMERAS or ANY
FORM OF PHOTOGRAPHY is prohibited. However, the Eisteddfod Committee
reserves the right, for publicity purposes, to record, film, broadcast or telecast any
item or section of the Eisteddfod.
20. Microphones may only be used in Popular/Jazz vocal sections
21. For the DANCE division, the society will provide a SOUND SYSTEM and an
appointed sound operator will be responsible for its use. No one else is permitted to
use the equipment. The use of the equipment is compulsory. Recordings must be
presented to the Operator prior to the commencement of each session. Music must be
recorded on CD. No cassette tapes or MP3s allowed. If the CD is prepared on a home
computer, please ensure it is finalised properly and plays through a normal audio
system. Please do not use RW-CD’s (re-writable). These are meant for computers and
may not play on replay equipment. The Goulburn Eisteddfod Society will not be
responsible for backing CD’s which do not play through the sound system provided.
A separate CD for each event is required, submitted in a clear protective case. Only
the one track relevant to the event should be on the CD. The CD is to show the
Number of Section, Competitor’s Number and Name. Do not use labels as this may
cause CD failure. Entrants are responsible for ensuring copyright requirements have
been met. Vocal is optional on backing CD except for Song and Dance sections.
22. NO PERSON SHALL BE PERMITTED TO ENTER OR LEAVE THE HALL
WHILST ANY ITEM IS IN PROGRESS OR WHILST ADJUDICATION IS BEING
GIVEN.
23. TIME LIMIT - Where the time limit is set, competitors must not go over the
specified time. Competitors may be penalised if the time limit is exceeded.
24. PROPS - ALL PROPS must be such that they can be PLACED ON THE STAGE
BY THE COMPETITOR or ONE OTHER PERSON ONLY. SUCH PROPS MUST
BE ESSENTIAL TO THE ITEM AND USED BY THE COMPETITOR IN
PERFORMANCE. Props must not contain straw or other highly flammable material.
NO naked flame or lighted matches to be used.
25. BACKSTAGE: Only competitors and Eisteddfod Officials are allowed backstage
during the competition.
26. There must be no debris, residue or substance from an entrance, performance or
costume requiring the stage to be cleaned. The surface of the stage must not be
coated.

27. Competitors compete at their own risk and the Eisteddfod Society Inc.
assumes no responsibility. All personal property is the sole responsibility of the
competitor/owner.
28. The Adjudicator's decision is final. Competitors, teachers, interested parties or any
unauthorised person MUST NOT communicate with the Adjudicator during sessions.
29. Competitors who have been pupils of an Adjudicator during the previous six
months will be ineligible to compete in any section judged by that Adjudicator.
30. The Committee reserves the right to appoint a substitute Adjudicator for an
advertised Adjudicator.
31. Protests must be lodged in writing with the Secretary within half an hour of a
decision and must be accompanied by a fee of $50.00. The Protest Committee's
decision will be final. Should the protest be deemed frivolous, the fee will not be
refunded.
32. If prompting or assistance of any kind is given by anyone other than the
Adjudicator, automatic disqualification will result.
33. A high standard of decorum is expected from all participants and spectators.
Unseemly or unpleasant behaviour which is contrary to the spirit of the event will
result in the offender being asked to leave. Offending entrants will be disqualified.
34. The following definitions apply.
RESTRICTED SECTIONS are open to competitors who have never won a
FIRST place in that particular category at ANY AGE at ANY
COMPETITION up to the closing date of this Eisteddfod.
SPECIAL RESTRICTED SECTIONS are restricted to competitors who have
not won a FIRST, SECOND OR THIRD place in that category at ANY AGE
and at ANY COMPETITION up to the closing date of entries for this
Eisteddfod.
RESTRICTED AND SPECIAL RESTRICTED sections do not qualify for
championships.
Failure to comply with any of the foregoing rules and conditions may involve
disqualification and the withholding of prizes. In all questions or disputes arising
outside of, or not provided for, by these Rules and Regulations, the decision of the
Management Committee of the Goulburn Eisteddfod Society Inc. will be final. All
entries are received according to this condition and in the spirit of friendly
competition upon which this Eisteddfod is based, and no dispute shall become the
subject of any appeal at law.

GOULBURN EISTEDDFOD SOCIETY VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP - This is a
cash prize of $250 to be awarded at the adjudicator’s discretion to the MOST
OUTSTANDING Competitor in the Vocal sections.
LOCAL TALENT AWARD VOCAL – This is a cash award and Trophy to be
awarded at the Adjudicator's discretion to the MOST OUTSTANDING Singer from
the Goulburn District residing in the Postcode Range of 2579 - 2583
CHAMPION PRIMARY CHOIR – to be awarded to the choir achieving the highest
aggregate in sections 427 OR 430 AND section 431. This is a $200 cash Award and
Trophy.
CHAMPION SECONDARY CHOIR – to be awarded to the choir achieving the
highest aggregate in sections 427 OR 430 AND section 431. This is a $200 cash
Award and Trophy.

NOTE RULE 9. COPYRIGHT: In making copies of recordings, sheet music and
literary works, competitors are expected to comply with APRA/AMCOS Rules. The

SPECIAL AWARDS
GOULBURN EISTEDDFOD SOCIETY INSTRUMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP -
This is a cash prize of $250 to be awarded at the adjudicator’s discretion to the MOST
OUTSTANDING Competitor in the Instrumental sections
ROSE FRAZER MEMORIAL AWARD – This award is a cash prize of $200,
Perpetual Trophy and memento to be awarded at the adjudicator’s discretion to
encourage a competitor in the Piano division. This award is sponsored by the family
of Rose Frazer.
LOCAL TALENT AWARD INSTRUMENTAL – This is a cash award and Trophy
to be awarded at the Adjudicator's discretion to the MOST OUTSTANDING
Instrumentalist from the Goulburn District residing in the Postcode Range of

INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLES/GROUPS

Junior Instrumental Ensembles/Groups will be held on 14th September.
Open Instrumental Ensembles and Groups will be held on the 14th September in
either the late afternoon or evening
Please note that there are no facilities at the venue for warm-up.
There is a MAXIMUM TIME for set up of 15 minutes once the section has
commenced. If this is exceeded then penalties will apply. Groups are encouraged to
arrive well before the section is to commence and preliminary set up can be arranged
with the Stage Manager.
ENSEMBLES

Ensembles: 4-12 players.
Open to any combination of instruments or types of ensembles/groups. Including

ROCK ENSEMBLES 4-12 Players. Any Combination of Instruments and /or Vocal
Competitors will have access to a drum kit but apart from this they must bring all
their own equipment.(Including power-boards to provide power from one outlet)
Set up time is 10minutes. Performers can have assistance from family, teachers and
friends to set up. The Eisteddfod Society cannot guarantee assistance.
A bell will sound when the 10minutes has elapsed and the performance must begin
within 1 minute.
Performance time is 10 minutes. Competitors will be penalised if they exceed this
time.
