Kia Ora

Term 3 has been a busy one

and has just flown by! I’ve

really enjoyed my first term

with the House and have

learnt a lot already. The girls

have been busy bee’s and I’m

impressed with a number of their successes

this Term.

During ’tournament week’ we had our Weight

Lifters Manine Lynch and Kohu Kawiti place

first and second, respectively, in the NZ

National Secondary Schools competition held

in Auckland.

The Sinclair sisters—Greer and Katie—had

success with the EGGS Premier netball team

and they are off to the national competition in

Ashburton in the second week of the school

holidays.

Senior A underwater hockey team placed 1st in

the Auckland schools grade with Mackenzie

Morgan gaining MVP. The team then went onto

gaining 2nd place at the Regional Schools

competition. Amy Wynne-Jones was part of the

Junior B underwater hockey team that became

the first Junior B team from EGGS to go to the

nationals tournament.

Claudia Wallace and Jenae Brownless both

placed in the top 30 for all their races in the

NZ Secondary Schools swimming competition.

We also now have a few of our girls

representing New Zealand in sports. Raven

Stevens is in the NZ under 20’s ‘Kahu team’

for Ultimate Frisbee and is training to go to

the world competition in 2016. We also need

to congratulate Harriette Overend who now

plays for the NZ Womens lacrosse squad and

is off to California for training in mid October

and then the worlds in England in 2017.

Well done to all our sporting achievers—we

are very proud of you.

I hope everyone has a great holiday and the

girls come back to start the new term truly

refreshed and ready for another busy few

weeks.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as

possible at our End of Year Leaver’s dinner

on 18 October.

House.

Term 3 has been a very hardworking and

successful term for us as well as the Year 13

leadership team. With running even more fun

and exciting activities which allowed the

houses to come closer together and as well as

also allowing the girls to bond with other

students that they may not have previously

hung out with. Starting off the term with an

inter house student-teacher quiz night. Each

house invited two of their favourite teachers

over for dinner and to be involved in a quiz

competition. All the Year 13’s worked so hard

in planning and preparing the night which

turned out to be a huge success.

Half way through the term, the Year 13

leadership team all decided to put on a mini

sports day with the MAGS (Mount Albert

Grammar School) Year 9 students and our

Year 9 students. Our leadership team’s goal

for this year was to move away from the idea

of socials and do more activities and events

with the other boarding houses. Where the

girls are able to show and express their true

personalities eg. showing the boys their

competitive/sporty sides through sports nights

or intellectual side through a quiz night. We

feel that the girls have all given us very

positive feedback about this, and they have all

started forming friendships within other

boarding houses which will hopefully continue

to happen in the future.

Head Girls Report

The Year 13 leadership team also held an

‘EPSOM PRIDE’ dress up dinner this term in

order to show our support to the girls who

were on winter tournament week. This was an

awesome night as the entire house was

dressed in blue and yellow.

Next term, the Year 13 leadership team are all

looking forward to finishing off the year on a

good note with another sports night as well as

the traditional candle lit dinner, where a Year

13 hands a candle down to a younger

student.

We have had such an awesome and busy

Term 3 and would like to say a huge

congratulations to Miss Pearse, our new

Assistant Principal, for surviving and putting

up with our crazy Year 13 antics during

exams.

Happy and safe holidays everyone, study hard

as well as rest over the school holidays and

we look forward to seeing all your lovely pretty

faces in Term 4!

Term Three has just flown by and the grass has become greener and the trees are starting to

blossom. The winter chill has finally lifted and spring is definitely in the air.

Jenny and I have had a really enjoyable term with the girls and happy to support Lucy

(Assistant Principal) in her new role at Epsom House.

We have an active role in the new Pod which is starting to take shape. We are taking photos

weekly of the progress and our Year 12 girls this year will get the pleasure of being the first

girls to take advantage of the new space next year.

Jenny and I would like to wish everyone a very enjoyable holiday. We look forward to seeing

everyone for the start of Term 4.

YEAR 12 BALL

Tena Koutou katoa,

We had another great term of activities in Term 3. With the wetter activities we had a few more craft days which provided the junior girls with a chance to spend time with the senior girls. Ashleigh Ballinger (one of our amazing weekend staff) organised cupcake decorating, slumber party with treats, DIY tote bags out of old t-shirts, making Happiness jars, rocky road making

and DIY paper flowers. The girls also got a chance to explore part of Auckland’s art scene with trips to the World Press Photography exhibit and the Auckland Art Gallery. They had fun hitting the shops in Mt Eden village and St Lukes. We had planned to go for a walk up One Tree Hill but once again this was cancelled due to wet weather. The big events this term were trips to go Tenpin Bowling and to head to the Mt Albert Pools. This term we also welcome Fahimah Khan on to the weekend activity team to replace Suzie Tozer who left us at the end of last term. Fahimah has enjoyed her first term and found her place easily with the girls, balancing well a sense of both fun and supervision of weekend activities. In Term 4 we are looking forward to the warmer weather and a chance to take the girls out to enjoy Auckland’s amazing waterfronts, volcanic peaks and beautiful swimming spots. Also as the year draws to an end we are planning to take the girls out to enjoy Auckland’s Christmas sites including the Christmas markets and the Franklin street lights. The Weekend staff team is currently planning our events for 2016 and are encouraging Year 9 girls to come up with suggestions for next year. If you have the chance we would love if you could talk with them about this over the holidays. Keryn Roberts Weekend House Manager

From the Parent’s Committee

Term 3 has flown by with a welcomed break especially for our Seniors, before they get into the

more serious end of the year with exams and final farewells/dinners etc next term.

The Parents Committee have had a busy term in particular Justine Bell and her team on the “EH

Year Book”, These are now on sale, so don’t miss the cut offs, they are a certain keepsake. The

End of Year Dinner on the 18th October is tracking along well, so make sure you reserve your seat

by making payment online into our Parents Committee bank account. Please refer to the flyers sent

out via Chris Barnes on how to purchase these.

A survey was sent out to parents and students, this data has been collated and information will be

analysed at our next BOT Sub-committee next term.

We had a successful face book drive this term with many thanks to Maria Hulijich-Boshier who

kindly donated the gifts to entice our new members. (parents).

I wish you all happy holidays and look forward to catching up with many at our function next term.

Kind regards

Sue Sinclair
