BETERSON WATER INTERNATIONAL mas-ters a worldwide unique advanced technology in the field of Submarine Karst Springs (SMKS) fresh water catch-ment systems (fwcs).

Anavalos, Greece SMKS fresh water catchment system (SMKS-fwcs)– the only productive operation in the world – produces 900 000 m3 daily.

Submarine fresh water reserves are unexploited renewable resources.

More than 30 billion m3 of fresh water are lost annually in the Mediterranean Sea due to not being exploited.

It all began in Greece, where, in cooperation with the Technologi-cal Educational Institution- Water resources Development Labo-ratory joined with the Department of Geology of the university of Athens, BWI scientific team developed its skills in the field of SMCS.

Anavalos Kiveri, the only operational and exploited catchment resurgence in the world for the past 40 years, as well as the Er-etria submarine resurgence were the main sites were research projects have been developed.

BETERSON WATER INTERNATIONAL is a qualified Assessment office, which specialises in the research, application and development of SMKS-fwcs.

Submarine fresh water springs have been known since Antiquity

Submarine fresh water springs have been known since Antiquity. Strabon (1st century a.c.) mentions them in recounting the siege of Tyr, as well as the Phoenicians who drew upon them using am-phorae. They also appear in tales from Moroccan fishermen and Arab sailors in the Mediterranean and the red Sea. Likewise, peo-ples living on coastlines in all continents, lacking fresh water, where one finds attempts to recuperate fresh water, using rudimentary techniques, albeit without ever mastering an elaborated technical method.

For the past seven years, BETErSon WATEr InTErnATIonAL (BWI) has brought together all skills required for the analysis, understanding, study, development and exploitation of fresh water coastal karst reserves.

new generation development systems (fwcs) have been studied and planned, based on academic and applied research as well as on innovative hydraulic techniques and appropriate special-ized submarine civil engineering.

Due to its experience in Lebanon, issuing from the identifica-tion, investigation, functional and qualitative description as well as from discharge quantification estimations of the prin-cipal Lebanese coastal fresh water SMKS, BWI is capable to define the technical and financial feasibility of adequate fwcs. That’s the reason BWI was recognized for its unique skills by the Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water and by the “union for the Mediterranean” (uPM).

Due to the difference of coefficient of turbulent consistency, vis-cosity and temperature, fresh water sub-critical non turbulent flow into a salty water body do not mix.

Prohibition of a fresh and salt water blending process requires elimination of a shock between the fresh water flow (V>>0) and a sea water body (V≈0).

BWI’s technology avoids blending by containing the fresh water’s welling in the sea and regulating the hydraulic charge at its natu-ral submarine pore.

BWI technology assumptions

Jet and plume of fresh water outlet under the sea

FWCS’s comparative evaluationBWI fwcs’s technology, due to significantly low build, operation and management costs, is a highly beneficial for the society and solidly profitable for the investors solution.BWI is planning the construction of a specialized research and ap-plication laboratory close to the Kiveri Anavalos surrounding area.

Submarine fresh water catchment systems (fwcs) are at the most environmentally friendly since:

1. Submarine fresh water reserves are renewable resources.

2. no polluting technical activities are required or any waste discharge is conveyed into the sea.

3. They only exploit fresh water discharges which naturally pours into the sea accordingly there is no risk of exhausting the resources.

4. Karst water reserves are protected from atmospheric pol-lution, therefore, if salinity process does not occur, water quality is excellent.

5. BWI’s technology is by far noteworthy in terms of energy saving and carbon footprint.

6. BWI’s Fwcs does not affect the hydraulic charge of the underground drainage network, consequently, salt water in-trusion is prohibited.
