Syllabus is as per UTM* broadly based on TEC* Guidelines, framed suitable to train the candidate to be competent for any qualifying tests of developed Countries viz. INDIA, USA, UK etc.

The Course is of 4 1/2 years duration, in phased manner (I, II & III) divided into 9 Semesters of 6 Months each.

InternshipThe course of four and a half years will be followed by a compulsory rotating Internship. The foreign students shall do their internship in their respective country of origin.

Tertiary education revolves around the University of Mauritius (UoM), the University of Technology,

Mauritius (UTM), the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE), the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI), the

Rabindranath Tagore Institute (RTI), the Mauritius College of the Air (MCA) and the Fashion and Design

Institute (FDI). Overseeing these seven tertiary education institutions (TEIs) is the Tertiary Education

Commission (TEC) which has responsibility for allocating public funds and fostering, planning and

coordinating the development of post-secondary education and training. Since 2005, TEC has the mandate

to regulate private post-secondary education institutions locally through institutional registration and

programme accreditation to ensure the quality of educational provisions. The TEC also determines the

recognition and equivalence of post-secondary qualifications.

LibraryThe College has excellent Central Library facilities. The Library subscribes to most of the national and international journals required for undergraduates and faculty. In addition to the Central Library, each Department has its own Departmental Library. The Central Library is equipped with all the modern facilities viz: Internet, CD-ROMs computers, audio-visual aids and photocopying. The library is also subscribing to Electronic Journal package for over 1000 journals.

Students CounselingRegular counseling sessions are arranged for students at the college. Senior faculty look after this activity under the direct supervision of the Dean of the college. Every attempt is made to see that students feel fully secure and comfortable. Parents are also encouraged to interact with the faculty members regularly to ensure the well being of their wards.

Academic

The candidates must have passed Intermediate of Science / Class XII / 10+2 / A-levels / PUC / any equivalent systems with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Zoology & Botany).

Note: Eligibility criteria of country of origin regarding number of science subjects and marks will be considered.

Minimum AgeStudents must have completed 17 years of age at the time they start the medical degree course.

Requirements

HostelSeparate hostel facilities for boys and girls are available. Hostel accommodation will be offered to students depending on availability. There is an in-house catering facility available.

Visa formalitiesVisa for all the students shall be processed by the college. Health requirement and investigations have to be done by the students at their cost.

Visa for parents and guardian are on arrival and presently at free of cost for some countries.

Mauritius is situated in the south-west Indian Ocean, A little above the tropic of Capricorn with a latitude of 20° south and a longitude of 57° east of Greenwich. It is 2,000 km off the east coast of Africa and some 855 km east of Madagascar.

An island of volcanic origin with an area of 1,864 square kilometer, it is almost entirely surrounded by coral reefs.
