SPECIALISTS:

Goan-born James D’Silva trained as a professional dancer with the Royal Ballet before opening his own Pilates studio in London. He is the originator of the Garuda Method, an approach that takes its name from a mythological bird that can change shape according to its function. The concept has inspired a more intelligent, intuitive way to exercise, combining cardiovascular strength with the graceful coordination of dance and the mindfulness of Pilates and yoga. Specially designed Garuda apparatus enhances the experience, placing an emphasis on smooth, seamless movements without any stress on joints, and ultimately developing greater poise and control and a stronger, leaner body. Unique, holistic and enjoyable, James’s workouts have attracted a loyal following of high profile clients, many of whom he has trained privately. Today he teaches and leads retreats worldwide. Eyal Chehanowski

Yoga expert Eyal Chehanowski began his career in New York before training around the world under the guidance of renowned yogis. He has since founded two leading yoga studios in Tel Aviv, and is a certified specialist in structural integration, or the Rolf method. A combination of deep tissue manipulation and movement education, Rolfing aims to realign imbalances within the body in order to reduce tension and chronic pain, and improve posture. As the technique and its effects are dependant on each client’s physical and emotional condition, Eyal offers an extremely personalised, caring approach, with a combination of therapeutic skills suited to the needs of the individual. Based in London, Eyal teaches clients, trains and certifies instructors, and leads retreats around the world.

ITINERARY:

Day 1:After arrival at Amanzoe, guests will have the opportunity to explore the property and its beach and enjoy a treatment in the Aman Spa before joining James for a movement session. An evening meditation session with James, combining pranayama and nidra yoga, precedes dinner.

Day 2:The day begins with an awakening and cleansing session with James, involving kriya and pranayama yoga practice, followed by a garuda movement class and a postural alignment and stretching session. Sessions will take place at Amanzoe’s colonnaded yoga pavilion, overlooking the Peloponnese countryside, or in the fully equipped Pilates studio. After a second garuda movement class, an evening meditation, pranayama and nidra yoga session will be held in Amanzoe’s atmospheric amphitheatre.

Day 3:After a morning kriya and pranayama, guests will continue their schedule of sessions of yoga, Pilates and garuda throughout the day, with the addition of a structural integration session with Eyal. At this stage in the retreat, guests will begin to learn a 20-minute sequence that they can practise at home. Evening meditation, pranayama and nidra yoga will follow free time spent either on the property at the spa, pool or beach; on an excursion along the coast; or to bustling Porto Heli nearby.

Day 4:Morning kriya and pranayama mark the beginning of another day of dedicated movement sessions with James, ending with evening meditation, pranayama and nidra yoga at the amphitheatre. Guests will continue to learn techniques to repeat after the retreat; their practice will be filmed for reference at home. Downtime may be spent relaxing on the property, visiting the area’s ancient ruins, or taking a trek through the Peloponnese countryside.

Day 5:Morning kriya and pranayama, and a final session with James, mark the close of the retreat, when guests can prepare for departure from Amanzoe.
