Mission
T he mission of the Protective DesignCenter (PDC) is to provide security engineeringservices to protect designated assets against criminaland terrorist, threats, and military weapons effects.
Mission areas
T he PDC provides security engineeringservices in support of the military aroundthe world, for civil infrastructure and for other federal and state agencies. This work includes:
Physical Security and Antiterrorism Conventional Weapons Resistant Design Nuclear Weapons Resistant Design Chemical and Biological Protection Explosives Safety Support to the Troops Infrastructure Protection
Protect ive Design Center of Exper t ise
Blower Door Test - Leakage rate testing for facilitycollective protection against chemical/biological threats.
Improving capabilities
T he knowledgeable and dedicated professional Pis continually developing better secur ity enginstandards. The staff is sensitive to project cost issuworks with research agencies to improve the hardne
bilities of standard construction systems through lohardening solutions.
The PDC works within the DoD community to estasearch needs, product testing, event analysis and tectransfer. Testing includes small-scale and full-scaleof structural systems, which is transferred into meadesign criteria and computer simulation software.
Training others
T raining is available in the following areas at varlocations around the world: Security Engineering
Minimum Antiterrorism Construction Standards Blast Analysis/Design Windows in Blast Environment Installation Access Control Points
*Mobile training teams are available upon request.
What we do
T he PDC uses a proven security engineer ing approachto develop protective design criteria as well as todevise and implement protective design strategies suchas:
Evaluating research, testing and product
development related to protective design.
Maintaining Corps criteria documents andcomputer programs related to protective design.
Coordinating with the private sector in areasof protective design.
Reviewing programming documents for protective design applications.
Providing protective design technical supportto the Corps.
Providing security engineering/force protectiontechnical support.
Providing security engineering/force protection policy support.
Force Protection - Above, a large threat vehicle imdouble-wall vehicle barrier system.
For hardened structures, the PDC formulates analyticaldesign methods, develops related computer programs, conducts studies and monitors laboratory researchrelated to weapons effects and facility response.
The center also provides technical support tonon-Department of Defense (DoD) agencies andforeign governments when coordinated with, andauthorized by, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
