*Make sure your hands are clean*
Take a piece of bread; tear into four
pieces (an adult can cut it.) Place one
section into a zip bag immediately.
Have another member of your family
(preferably someone who has not
just washed their hands) rub another
section on their hands and place into
the 2nd zip bag. Take the 3rd section
and rub it over your remote control
or some other household device that
is touched a lot, and then place into
another zip bag. Take the final
section of bread, rub it on a
doorknob in your house that is used
frequently, and place in the 4th zip
bag. Make sure you label each bag, to
keep track of the changes thru the
week. Take a picture of each bag if
you can. This will make it easier to
remember what things looked like on
Day One.
*Observe your bread bags from
yesterday. If there are any changes,
record them.
Write a paragraph describing what
you think will happen in a few days or
in a week's time.
*Observe your bags with bread. If
there are any changes, record them.

causes each of them to move? Do
any of the items require more than
one source of power to move?
*Observe your bags with bread. If
there are any changes, record them.
(Keep recording changes next week
as well. This experiment can last as
long as you would like!)

erosion. Build a mound out of dirt, sand,
soil, loose gravel and observe what
happens when you pour water on it or
leave it on a very windy day. Write a

tornado, hurricane, floods, volcanic
eruptions)
*Investigate and create a
marshmallow catapult. Using items
around the house, a spoon, eraser,
pencil, etc. Build a catapult and
measure the distance that it will toss
a marshmallow. Adjust see if you can
get a greater distance.

minutes. Make a chart of what you
heard, smelled, and felt.
*Create Oobleck, using cornstarch
and water mix and observe their
reaction. Write about your
observations. Is it liquid, or is it a

Make pancakes with an adult. Explain the
three states of matter formed while
making them (Solid, Liquid, Gas).

predictions on what will happen to each,
then record and analyze your data.
*Make sure you have adult supervision.
Wear the glasses or sunglasses while
experimenting.
Use 15 thumbtacks, 2 blown & tied
balloons. Predict which balloon will pop

Oxidation Experiment-Oxidation occurs
when an atom, molecule, or ion loses 1 or
more electrons in a chemical reaction.

white paper. After the message fades,
use a blow dryer to apply heat. Don’t
forget to use the scientific method. Write
your prediction, experiment, and record

record of the changes on a calendar or a
piece of paper. Describe any patterns
you notice.
*Observe the moon and stars over the
next week and longer if you wish!
Besides knowing the date, what are
some ways that you can identify the
season? Go outside and observe the
sun/sky and the weather. How can your
observations support the fact that we are
currently in the Spring season?
Properties of Matter

you have at your house. Some example:

We show flexibility when we adapt to
new situations. Some people think that
the Constitution needs to be easily
changed to keep up with current times.
Others think it should be hard to change
so that we don’t change it whenever we
feel like it. What do you think? Explain
your reasoning.
