    1.2 Personnel Qualifications andTraining

    O p er a t i n g , m a i n ten a n c e , i n sp ec t i on a n d

    insta lla tion sta ff must possess the correct q ua-

    lifica tion s for t heir w ork. Area s of respo nsi-

    bili ty, scope of authority and staff supervi-

    sion must be exactly defined by the user. If

    personnel do not have the necessary know-

    ledge they must receive due t ra in ing and

    instruction. If necessary, the user of the ma-

    chine /eq uipment can a rran g e fo r such tra i-

    ning and instruction to be provided by the

    ma nuf a cturer / supplier. The u ser must a lso

    make sure tha t the content of t he ma nual is

    fully understo od by the sta ff concerned.

    Responsibilites

    Al l w or k on a n d op er a t i on o f th e p u m p /

    eq uipment should be carried o ut by tra ined/

    competent and q ual if ied opera to rs, t rades-

    men a nd /or engineers as appropriat e.

    Any person responsible fo r or in charg e o f

    working with lifting gear and ropes w henmoving a pump /eq uipment w ill have to be

    duly instructed prior to do ing the tra nspor-ta t ion job;

    mounting a drive to a pump /eq uipmentmust be qualif ied /trained as an industrial

    mecha nic /te chnicia n;

    setting up installations into a plantmust b e

    qualified /trained as an industrial mechanic/technic ian and must be f ami l i a r w i th the

    design and funct ioning of the plant in w hich

    the pump /eq uipment is being installed;

    doing work on starting up, operation andmaintenance must ga in knowledge of thepump /equipment principle prior to perfor-

    ming such works and must study the safety

    instructions and t he ma nua l tho roug hly;

    doing repair works, and prior to do ing suchw orks, must be trained an d skilled in t he job.

    He must ha ve due know ledg e of the pump/

    eq uipment s specific det a ils set up in the repa ir

    instruct ions. Unski l led personnel must be

    trained an d repa ir w orks checked.

    1.3 Dangers arising from Non-Observance of the SafetyInstructions

    Non-ob servance of the saf et y instructions canresult in da ng er to personne l as well a s to the

    environment and the machine. Non-obser-

    vance o f t he saf et y instruction s can result in

    the loss of claims for compensat ion.

    1.4 Safety Conscious Working

    In a dd ition to th e sa fe ty instructions liste d in

    1.5 Safety Instructionsfor the User / Operator

    If t here is a risk of da ng er from a ny hot

    or cold ma chine compo nent , the user

    must f i t prot ective g ua rds to prevent

    such compone nts from b eing to uched

    (a ccord ing to Sta nd a rd EN 563).

    coupling s) must be in position w hen

    th e ma chine /eq uipment is in use.

    1.6 Safety Instructions forMaintenance, Inspectionand Installation

    The user must en sure tha t a ll ma inten a nce,

    inspection a nd installa tion w ork is ca rried out

    by a uthorized a nd q ual if ied personnel w ho

    understand the operat ing instruct ions and

    are adeq uat ely trained.

    Work on a pump /eq uipment must o nly be

    carr ied out wi th the machine stopped and

    electrical pow er supply turned o ff . The pum p/

    equipment must not be under any pressure

    and must have cooled of f . Al l procedures

    detailed in these operating instructions on

    the sto ppag e of t he machine must a lw ays be

    adhered to .

    Pumps /equipment which convey harmful

    media must be deconta minat ed .

    Immediately af t er the maintena nce w ork is

    finished a ll sa fet y devices a nd g ua rds must be

    r e-i n st a lled a n d t h e sa f e t y t r i ps m u st b e

    tested .

    Before putt ing the ma chine ba ck in to opera-

    tion th e points deta iled in section " Sta rt-up"

    1.7 Unauthorized Modifications and

    Manufacture of Spares

    Modifica tions or chang es to ma chines /eq uip-

    ment are only permissible wi th the manu-

    fac turer 's agreement . Origina l spare parts

    and accessories authorized by the manufac-

    turer ensure safety.

    The use o f o th er compo nent s revokes a ny lia -

    1.8 Improper ApplicationDelivered ma chinery /eq uipment is on ly g ua -

    This ma chine / eq uipment w as de sig ned in

    accorda nce w ith the prescribed cond itions of

    use.

    The limits of use a re la id do w n in the con -

    ditions of use and should in no way be ex-

    ceeded.

    1.9 Specific Points for the Use of aSpectra Pump

    A Spectra pump must be used fo r the pur-pose only fo r w hich it w a s sold.

    If you chang e or w ish to cha ng e the process

    med ium, you must check w i th e i ther the

    supplier or manufacturer that the pump is

    suita ble f or t he n ew med ium. This is espe-

    cially importa nt w ith ag g ressive, poisono us orot herw ise ha za rdous substan ces.

    Pump criteria include:

    1. Com pat ibility w ith the med ium

    2. Suita bility fo r seal de sign /mat erial,

    especia lly the sha ft seal

    3. Resista nce to pressure a nd tem pera ture

    of t he medium.

    Please note tha t Spectra pumps are progres-

    sing cavity pumps an d a s such can g enera te

    very high pressure.

    A blocka g e o r the cha nce closure o f a valve

    in the discharg e line ca n cau se a pressure rise

    manifold as high as can be tolerated by the

    installation. This can result in t he bursting ofpipes, w hich mu st b e a voided especia lly in

    the case of da ngerous media .

    During maintenance and repair w ork on the

    pump please note the fo llow ing:

    1. Ensure tha t t he pump drive can notbe turned on without aut horiza t ion.

    2. When opening the pump fo llow

    the instructions for ha ndling the

    medium (eg. protective clothing,

    no smo king et c).

    3. Before put t ing t he pump back in to

    opera t ion ensure tha t a l l gua rds and

    ot her safe ty d evices (eg . drivebeltprotection, coupling protection) are

    prope rly reinsta lled .

    2 Description

    The Spectra pum p is a pro g ressing ca vitypump.

    The ma in compon ent s wh ich d ete rmine t he

    syste m discovered by Prof essor Ren Moinea u

    are a rota t ing part , ca l led the roto r and a sta -

    tic part , called the sta to r.

    The ro to r is a helical screw w ith a n extrem e-

    ly large pitch, large thread depth and small

    cent re diame te r w ith round cross-section fo r

    1/2-g eo me t ry a nd ellipt ica l cro ss-section fo r

    2/3-g eo met ry. The sta to r ha s a t w o sta rt o r

    resp. 3 start th rea d a nd is do uble or resp. 1.5th e pitch leng th of th e rot or. This provides

    space for the medium betw een the roto r and

    sta to r. When t he rot or t urns round inside the

    sta to r the m edium mo ves cont inuously from

    the inlet t o t he outlet .

    The universa l Spectra pump system unifies

    many positive characteristics of other pump

    types:

    Like cent rifug a l pumps Spectra pump s ha ve

    no suction or pressure valves, but do have asta ble f low ra te in proport ion to the number

    of revolutions.

    Like p isto n pu mps Spectra pumps ha ve a

    suct ion capabi l i ty of up to 8.5 m vacuum

    metric.

    Like membrane and peristaltic pumps the

    Spectra pump can transport every type of

    inhom og eno us, ga seous a nd ab rasive media,

    as w ell as those tha t are not of a l iq uid con-

    siste ncy or cont a in solids and /or f ibrous ma te -

    rial.

    Like g ea r pumps and screw pumps the

    Spectra pump is capa ble of coping w ith h ig h

    me dium visco sit ies.

    3 Packaging, Transportation, Storage

    3.1 Packaging and Transportation

    The pa ckings are lab elled a nd symbo ls g ive th e ha nd ling instructions

    in a ccord a nce w ith DIN 55402.

    On receipt check fo r any tra nsport d a ma g es.

    Transport da ma g es should be reported to the tra nsporter immediat ely.

    The pum ps sho uld be t ran spo rted a s closely a s possible t o t he loca tion

    of insta llation a nd o nly there should the y be uncrat ed.

    Uncrat ed horizonta l pumps should b e l if t ed by using a sha ckle w hich

    can be a t ta ched to the b aseplat e . The bo lt ho les of the f rame orthe l if t ing lugs at ta ched t o t he ba seplat e could be used a s show n on

    the insta llat ion d raw ing.

    Vertica l pumps should b e l if t ed by using the bo lt do w n ho les,

    lift ing lugs or sha ckles a tt a ched t o t he b a sepla te . This is sho w n on

    the insta lla tion d raw ing . For mo st a pplications, the d rive is mounted

    on to p o f t he pump.

    Be careful w hen lif t ing to p hea vy pumps. The centre o f g ravity ma y be

    a bo ve the points whe re the l if t ing g ea r is a tt a ched to . If th e case, secure

    a dd itiona lly ag a inst t ipping o ver!

    Vertical pumps sho uld no t b e d epo site d un less they a re secured vertica lly.

    Hazards of tipping! Deposit only in ho rizont a l position!

    It is essent ia l to a void th a t t he to ta l pump unit be suspende d w ith

    eye bo lts of t he mo to r or ge a r box. These eye bo lts should be used

    fo r lif t ing the mo to r and /or the g ea r box only.

    The Accident Prevention Rules, Section 18.4 relating to lifting accessoriesfor the lifting of loads (VBG 9a) must be strictly adhered to.

    Beca use o f t he va riety of possible pump d esig ns and a pplications, only

    g enera l instructions ca n be g iven here. These should be go od eno ug h

    fo r experienced a ssemblymen o r tran sporta tion e xperts.

    uneven. Hazards of tipping!

    Ensure a sta ble position of the pum p or unit a t t he o perat ing /sto rag e pla ce

    a nd secure i t by a ctua t ing all cla mping d evices on all the w heels or rollersa ga inst volunta ry moving aw ay.

    Where ne cessa ry, secure the pump un it a dd ition a lly w ith support b locks.

    3.2 Storage

    The pu mps are p reserved f or t ran sport unless specified ot herw ise.

    In cases of long er sto rag e the pumps should be ha ndled a s fo llow s

    until installation:

    Stator:

    If the pump is not to be used immed ia tely, then t he elastom er along

    the conta ct l ine betw een rotor a nd sta to r may become permanent ly

    disto rted (compression-set ). This w ill increase t he b rea k aw a y to rq ue.

    Therefo re, the stat or should be removed a nd kept separa tely in a clea n,

    cool and dry environment .

    4 Mounting and Installation

    If the Spectra pump was stored and the rotor grease protected:Remove the grease before installing the stator.Clean the rotor thoroughly in order to avoid unsuitability ofthe grease with the stator material and the pumping medium.

    Screw the pump at all fixing points (bearing housing / drivestool, end stud, support feet) using all fixing bores securelydown to the sub-structure (ground plate, machine frame,foundation etc.).

    4.1 Direction of Rotation

    The direction o f rot at ion of the pum p is given on t he mo del plat e

    a nd in t he o rder conf irmat ion. The d irection o f d elivery of the

    Spectra pum p is a f unction o f th e direction o f rota tion.

    Changes must be agreed upon and confirmed by the supplier.

    4.2 Pressure

    The Spectra pump is a progressing cavity pump which can producepressures that may cause the bursting of vessels or pipes.

    The power transmission train (shaft, coupling rod, joints, rotor)of the pump may be overloaded thus resulting in damageor breakage.

    Also the pump housing parts with their connections may beoverloaded and break. There is a table in Section 4 of theseMaintenance and Operating Instructions showing thepressure resistance of the pump housing parts.

    Never run the pump against a closed inlet or outlet valve!

    Open valves and vents before starting the pump!

    Check the direction of rotation by briefly switching on
