BACKGROUND

South Africa continuously experience increase levels of lawlessness, impunity, intolerance and disregard for the rule of law. This has manifested itself in community protests, industrial actions, land invasions, defacing of statues and violence against foreign nationals. There has also been an increase in incidents of incitement through the use of social media and other platforms without serious repercussions. Most of these activities were characterised by extreme violence.
