On Monday 1st August, our Annual Primary Athletics Carnival was held for students in years 3-‐6 at E.S. Marks Field. The carnival was a great day for all involved, with fabulous athletics performances on display as well as fantastic sportsmanship. Students had the opportunity to participate in many events including various running races, long jump and novelty events. Getting through our very full program would not have been possible without our wonderful teaching staff who worked non-‐stop on the day to make sure it ran smoothly. A big thank you to the parents, family and friends who came along and supported the event.
Congratulations to all children at Rose Bay Public School who participated at our Annual Athletics Carnival. The athletes listed above deserve a special mention for their outstanding results on the day. The first three athletes placed in all 100m races and the first two athletes placed in the 200m and 800m races will be representing Rose Bay Public School at the District Athletics Carnival in a few weeks. Best of luck to our District athletes.

Important Information for Parents and Carers
-‐ Changes to office operations in Term 3 –
Learning Management and Business Reform (LMBR)
Rose Bay Public School will transition to the new NSW Public Schools’ finance system and a new bank account on the 17th October 2016. The NSW Department of Education is currently implementing a standardised finance system (SAP) and new financial processes for all NSW Public Schools as part of the Learning Management and Business Reform. This means significant changes to school operations over 2016 and 2017. There will be many changes to the work done by our school office staff such as payments to the school, organising and maintaining student records including attendance, health records, as well as the placement of school orders and payments to suppliers. Our school is part of the Port Jackson Network of schools, one of 4 school networks which will go live with the new system on October 17, 2016. Prior to going ‘live’ in October (early Term 4) our school office staff are required to attend mandatory, weekly training in the new systems. Vicki and Alex will be attending training at least two days a week, and the principal once a week. As a result, this may affect some office operations. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this transition time.
Kindergarten 2017
We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2017.
Siblings who will be 5 years before 31st July 2017 are eligible to enrol. If you know of any families with children living in the school’s catchment area (if unsure of catchment – please ring the school office with address), please let them know that they can access the Application to Enrol in a NSW Government School from the school website or the school office, and to submit the form together with all accompanying documents.
Our School Vision Statement
At Rose Bay PS we aim for our students to become:
Ø successful learners Ø confident and creative
individuals Ø active and informed citizens

Debating News Round 2 Round two of the Bondi District debating competition was held at Bondi Public School. Year 5 debating team members Sara, Will, Naor and Peta tried their best to argue that ‘we should put the environment first’ (negative), whilst Year 6 members Ineke, Ashna, Taylor and Matt managed to successfully persuade everyone that ‘we are headed in the right direction’ (negative)! These were really challenging topics, and all these students should be commended on their outstanding efforts.
Debating News Round 3 The third round was held at Rose Bay Public School. The year five students were Jemima, Darcie, Jake and Candice. They debated that ‘That the internet does more harm than good’ and were very convincing and won their debate. The year 6 students – Amelia, Matthew, Romy and Grace debated that ‘computers are worth the money we spend on them.’ They also had great success and won their debate. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our teams on the wonderful success.
Banana Smoothies with Costa Last week, Costa came to school and took Kindergarten on a walk to
find our banana trees!
Cool banana facts... Baby banana plants are called pups! In the tropics, bananas can be purplish-red. The Latin name for banana is Musa (it rhymes with Noosa!) A bunch of bananas is called a hand!
The best part about Costa’s visit was making banana smoothies! He used bananas, milk, cinnamon, coconut oil and mint. He was very funny and pretended to be a monkey while he was peeling the bananas. We all had a taste and thought the smoothies were DELICIOUS!
