    FYE seminars [like College 1] have been shown to

    increase student persistence, use of campus resources,

    academic ability, and graduation, especially when paired

    with shared intellectual experiences such as a One Book,One College Program (National Resource Center), but

    such programs are most effective when they are

    rooted in a broad base of support across campus,

    evolving with input and involvement from faculty from

    across the disciplines, classified staff, and students.

    2011-12 FYE Cohort Findings

    Comparative Results (Fall 2011)FYE students had higher engagement with faculty, higher engagement

    with peers, higher participation in campus activities, and a greatersense of security.

    A higher proportion of FYP students attempted English 1A, Math 125,and Math 131.

    Pre-Post Results for FYE (Fall 2011 to Spring 2012)

    There was a statistically significant increase in engagement with faculty.

    Class participation was a statistically significant predictor of GPA.

    There was a statistically significant increase in math anxiety.
