<>ACSI Spelling Bee info

On Friday, January 13th, the ACSI Mid America Spelling Bee will take place in Cary, IL. Those students chosen to partici-

pate will be: 5th grade - Titus Cook; 6th grade - Leah Wilson; 7th grade-Andrea Imsland: 8th grade-Jerrey Nelson. Con-

gratulations on your accomplishment so far! Continue to study hard! We are so proud of you!

Your PCA Band did a wonderful job playing for the Liberty Village Residents last Tuesday 12/13/16! Mr. Odell

shared the true meaning of Christmas, kindly introduced us and we played 8 Christmas carols. After our concert, band

members passed out delightful, Jesus centered crafts that the kindergarteners and third graders made for the residents. The

residents listened, smiled, clapped, happily held their treasured new gifts and thanked us for coming. What a blessing all

around!

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Odell, Ms.

Neff – who played with us, Mrs. Skaggs –

who took this picture, and the K and 3rd

grade classes and teachers for your help.

We deeply appreciate you!

Please continue to encourage your musi-

cians to play during vacation. It is so impor-

tant that they continue to work on the skills

they have acquired! Students in private les-

sons will be bringing home a play plan today.

Please ask them about their play plan.

January seems to be a rather quiet month for performances, but I still created a concert and show list.

You can find a copy of the list near the front desk.

Thank you for allowing me to teach your children! Music is a beautiful gift from God, and it is a joy to share that with

them. I celebrate every step of growth these students make and am truly thrilled to see their progress. They are amazing

people!

I pray you and yours have a Merry, music–filled Christmas and a NOTEworthy New Year! Mrs. Marshall

Merry Christmas,

Mrs. Marshall!

Merry Christmas, Miss Elisha & Miss Pam!

December Pizza Hut Calendars can be turned in before the break so I can issue pizza coupons. We are reading

lots of minutes and this will only help our reading skills. Thank you.

We will not exchange gifts but will make cards for the children of Costa Rica. My husband is

in charge of mission trips to Costa Rica working with children and families through leading

nurses from Washburn University in medical clinics, organizing dental clinics in the town of

Pavas, feeding the children through the TIKVA program in the central valley of Costa Rica and

construction teams. His team will hand out the cards which will brighten the children of Costa

Rica. We will include a picture of our class.

Our Christmas party will be at 12:30 on Thursday and dismissal is 2:00 pm.

We should finish Reader One and start Reader Two. You will see them come home a few times a week. Your

child will be excited over bringing their readers home. Please let them read aloud to you or to another adult.

There is not a required number of pages to read. He/She may read to the end of the book (the books are short)

and start again at the beginning if desired. Use your judgment about how much to have him/her read. He should

read enough to have regular practice and keep up with the others in his reading group. After your child finishes

reading, please record the date and the specific page numbers read on the Homework Chart provided on the back

cover of the book. The reader should be returned each day so that he/she will have his reader for class time and

recognition for his homework can be shown.

The skills we will work on include step instructions, animal sound identification, button and unbutton shirts and

tying our shoes.

We will review with flash cards our numbers to one hundred, telling time to o’clock, counting by 10’s and what

comes after numbers 0-19. We will be making addition sentences 1-8 and make up a story to go with our addi-

tion sentences. We will review 1-4 Addition Family and introduce the 5 Addition Family. The number 20-59

will be written out. There will be a Number Evaluation at the end of the week.

Phonics will be review of all blends, one vowel rule, and reading one vowel words. We will say-spell all the

sight words (do, to, the, a, you, two, for) and our new sight word “of” will be compared with the word “off” for

understanding. We will circle sight words we find in our sentences. We will review parts of a story and review

comprehension of a story. It is important we understand what we are reading in our Readers. Your children

will be excited to learn all the long vowel sounds and markings this week. Long and short vowel blend ladders

will be read and we will play our favorite “Hayride” game to practice reading long and short vowels in words

and blends.

The Christmas Story and lessons will be taught in Bible time with our memory verse in Luke 2:11

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord”

Jesus’ birth was a gift that God gave because He loves all people.

This Christmas we can say yes to Jesus who brought peace and salvation to all people.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy your families .

I pray you know Jesus as your Savior and Lord this Christmas season.

Jesus is the reason for . . . Everything!

Merry Christmas, Mrs. Whitlock!

4th Grade - Mrs. Odell Merry Christmas, Mrs. Odell!

2nd Grade - Mrs. Bickett

First grade – Mrs. Wolbrecht

3rd grade - Mrs. Cleary

Bible – We continue to celebrate our savior and the reason for the season! We will spend the next few days learning about

Jesus’ birth! Our verse this week is: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government shall be upon His

shoulders and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

We are finishing up with our “Adornaments”. Each day this week we will learn more names of Jesus through scripture…

such as the Lion, the Lamb, the Light of the world, the Good Shepherd… The kids have really enjoyed taking turns adding

an adornament to the tree.

Spelling List #14 will be our last list of 2016. We will test on Tuesday, December 20.

Speech: Students have picked out their verse or poem for the in-house speech contest which will take

place during the first week in February. Two students, plus an alternate from each category will be

chosen to advance to the ACSI speech contest in Peoria which takes place in March. I will be sending

your child’s typed scripture or poem home today so they may keep at home and work on memorizing

over break. We will also practice during class when school resumes.

Arts & Crafts: On Wednesday, Mr. Clausen’s 5th grade class will be coming in to do a take-home

craft with us. First grade always loves having visitors!

Christmas Party & Cards: Our letters are written and ready to be mailed to the children sponsored by families at PCA.

Thank you for sending in names and addresses! The kids are excited about sending the letters and hoping they will hear back

from them!

I wanted to remind everyone that, in lieu of a gift exchange in First Grade, we would like to collect dollars and coins that

would have been spent on gifts and send a monetary gift to Allison, our AMG sponsor child.

Our Christmas party will begin after lunch on Thursday, December 22. We will begin with a visit from Mrs. Patty, our class

reader. Afterward, Beth Schultz and Pam Friel have planned what I’m sure will be a fabulous time! We guarantee to sugar

up, glitter up and pump up your children before sending them home to you for their much earned Christmas break!

I do want to thank each family for the opportunity to teach and love your children. It is truly an honor. I do not take for

granted that this Christmas is one of my many “lasts” here at PCA. Most of you are aware my husband has taken a job in

Seattle and is already there, staying with my mom. I count each day, each holiday and each season that I’m able to part of

the student’s lives a gift! I pray that your family has a wonderful break spending time celebrating our King! What a mighty,

mighty Savior He is!

In His Hands, Mrs. Wolbrecht

Remember students to work on your speeches through the holidays!

I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a blessed, Happy New Year to you and your families!

See you in 2017!

Merry Christmas, Mrs. Wolbrecht!

Merry Christmas, Mrs. Bickett!

Merry Christmas, Mrs. Cleary!

I want to wish my students and families a Christ-filled Christmas and a beautiful New Year!

Merry Christmas, Mrs. Thompson & Merry Christmas, Mrs. Taylor!

Enjoy this special time of the year with your family and friends and make precious memories to last a lifetime! Merry
