Payroll Newsletter April 28th, 2017 Keith’s Corner Greetings all, Hopefully with this last snow we are now into the final approach to spring – think positive!! I wanted to provide a quick update on the town hall meetings earlier this week. Attendance was pretty low so I felt you should at least know what we discussed and some of the updates….hopefully more of you will be able to attend the next ones. Our topics of discussion included: 1. Top 100 Hospital Discussion – we talked about how we were selected for this very nice recognition and the fact that the 8 different criteria reflected work being done in ALL areas of our facility so it was not just a quality award, not just a safety award, or not just a business award. It shows that, as a complete team, with all aspects of our work being reflected, we are one of the top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the nation (and there are over 1200 CAHs in the US!). So congratulations to each of you and thank you for all that you do, wherever you work in our organization, to ensure that our patients and their families receive the best care out there. 2. Living Our Mission Metrics – we discussed the three main metrics of quality, safety and patient experience. I showed all of the graphs that compare our hospital to each of the others in our division and where we rank. We are doing very, very well in the areas of quality and safety but we have work to do still in the area of patient experience (HCAHPS). This is the main reason for our contract with Studer Group and the tools we are working to hardwire in our organization. Don’t neglect them! We also briefly discussed the other 6 Living Our Mission Metrics that CHI has established as the measures that are meaningful to us and what the standards are and will be over the next two years. 3. Finance Update – We discussed our current positive financial position and the fact that we are almost three times better than our budgeted numbers year to date. This is an amazing accomplishment and one that you should be justifiably proud of. We discussed the “Why” behind the staffing reductions and the fact that the rumor stating all the cuts were being absorbed at the MBO level and corporate offices are not doing anything as absolutely FALSE! The corporate offices have reduced thousands of positions and realigned a significant number of workflows to improve organizational efficiency and reduce overhead. This is a company-wide effort and all offices are doing their part. 4. Corporate Turnaround Efforts – We discussed new labor targets and measures, capital availability, new budget targets, reasons for the aggressive turnaround measures and the “why” for the turnaround. Questions asked were: Can we include growth in ambulatory care as organic growth? How will we continue to absorb turnaround efforts in our facility? And, How will filling our unfilled employee positions affect the new labor standards? If you have any questions on the above, do not hesitate to ask me or any of the staff members who attended the sessions. Your department manager is also a great resource for your questions as we cover these topics in detail at managers meetings.

Keith’s Corner Greetings all, Hopefully with this last snow we are now into the final approach to spring – think positive!! I wanted to provide a quick update on the town hall meetings earlier this week. Attendance was pretty low so I felt you should at least know what we discussed and some of the updates….hopefully more of you will be able to attend the next ones.

Our topics of discussion included: 1. Top 100 Hospital Discussion – we talked about how we were selected for this very nice recognition and the fact that

the 8 different criteria reflected work being done in ALL areas of our facility so it was not just a quality award, not just a safety award, or not just a business award.
