Term 3 Week 1 Friday 28 th July 2017 From The Principal Kia ora koutou We have had a very positive start to the term at Oropi School. Thank you to all our parents who have been able to attend the mid-year report follow-up interviews this week. This is an important opportunity to get more details about the summaries you received of your child's progress. The mid year report is specifically designed to simply be a snapshot of your child’s learning and this is why we follow up with interviews so you can get more details. The end of year reports provide the more detailed information. I would like to pass on a sincere thanks to the parents of children in our Kapa Haka group who committed their time in the last week of the holidays to cater for a breakfast group at the Oropi Hall. This meant they were able to raise a substantial amount of funds for the group. Thank you very much for your time and efforts in this. There are a lot of exciting plans for Term 3. The highlights will include: Go Cart Racing next week, the Disco, the School Choir Performance, and the Ball for Year 5-8 children. This gives us plenty to look forward to and of course with spring on the way, many of us are starting to gear up for our Calf Club Day at the start of Term 4. Many of you will no doubt have an extra chore as I type - looking after chickens! Every now and then, I get reminders that Oropi School is certainly heading in the right direction in terms of offering a dynamic curriculum for our children. This reminder is in the form of a recent article on Stuff - https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/education/95074861/high-school-students-not-learning-enough-about-asian-countries- survey Languages are so important for our children and learning about the relevance of the Asia region to New Zealand. Our Curriculum Overview is soon to apprea on the front page of our school website. Please keep an eye out for this. The ticket price include a small treat pack including a glow stick and a few other goodies. Food must be pre-ordered before Thursday 17th on Kindo or at the office. We will need 10 parents from the junior School and 10 parents from the senior school to help with supervision. Please indicate on Kindo when purchasing tickets if you can help, or contact the office. There will be spot prizes and prizes awarded to the best dressed. You must text back, or call the absent line to notify us of the reason your child is away. Bus PLEASE remember to notify the School before 2pm if you are collecting your children.
