SPEAKER PROFILE

Ms Margaret Cheng, President, HKIHRM

Ms Margaret Cheng is a seasoned HR professional with extensive experience across geographies and industries. She is currently the HR Director of MTR Corporation Limited. Before MTR, Margaret worked for the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited as Group Head of HR and had held senior positions at major financial institutions such as HSBC, J.P. Morgan and Citi. Margaret is an active supporter for the development of HR professionalism in Hong Kong. She is a Fellow Member and the Chairperson of Hong Kong Management Association’s (HKMA) People Management Committee. On the education front, Margaret serves on career advisory boards and mentoring programmes of various tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. She also chairs the Drafting Sub-committee and sits on the Cross-industry Training Advisory Committee for Human Resource Management under Qualifications Framework as Vice Chairperson, and is a Member of the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research of the Education Bureau. In addition, Margaret is a Council Member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). On the public service front, Margaret sits on the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Condition of Services and is the Chairperson of its Police Sub-Committee. Margaret received her BA in Business Management from California State University in the US and holds an MBA from Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University in the US and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Mr George Leung, Advisor, Asia-Pacific, HSBC

Mr George Leung is Advisor to the Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. His role mainly covers the Bank’s business strategy development and economic affairs for the Asia Pacific region in a full-time capacity. He is a senior executive in the management team and also a member of the Bank’s Executive Committee for Hong Kong. Prior to this appointment in 2005, he was Chief Economist, Greater China region, the post he held since 2000. Mr Leung joined HSBC as Senior Economist in 1994 and was appointed as Head of Economic Research Department in 1996. Mr Leung is a renowned business economist and an influential public policy commentator in the region. He also has a long record of public service, including former Chairman of the Financial and Treasury Committee of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC); former Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee of HKGCC; and Acting Chairman of The Hong Kong Association of Banks. He was also a member of various public bodies, including Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (Hong Kong Committee), Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council, Government Statistics Advisory Board, and the Provisional Construction Industry Co-ordination Board (PCICB), etc. Mr Leung also served as non-executive director at the Board of The Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited. He is now a member of the Hong Kong Financial Services Development Council and an honorary advisor to several public and tertiary institutions. Mr Leung obtained his Master of Arts in Economics from The University of Toronto, Canada in 1984. He also holds a MBS degree from The University of Hong Kong.

Mr Lawrence Hung, Vice President, HKIHRM

Mr Lawrence Hung is currently Vice President of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM). Lawrence has over 20 years’ experience in Human Resources Management working with MNC in a variety of industries, such as transportation, petroleum, fast-moving consumer products, and luxury retail in Asia, including Richemont Asia Pacific, PepsiCo and Hong Kong Disneyland. Lawrence is a Faculty of WorldatWork and Registered Corporate Coach with the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches. He was awarded a Certificate of Competence in Occupational Testing by the British Psychological Society. He received his MBA degree from the University of Birmingham.

Mr Hong Tran, Partner, Employment & Benefits, Mayer Brown

Mr Hong Tran is a partner of Mayer Brown and a Co-Firm Practice Leader of the global Employment and Benefits Group. He advises employers on compliance with employment, discrimination and privacy legislation. He also advises on strategic labour force issues including the structure of employment relationships; risk management in the employment and discrimination context; the introduction of changes to employment arrangements; the handling of union relations; and recruitment, disciplinary and termination issues. He is experienced in handling employment disputes, discrimination and privacy complaints/issues. He represents employers engaged in legal proceedings at the various court levels from the Labour Tribunal through to the Court of Final Appeal. He also advises employers in responding to investigations by the Labour Department, Equal Opportunities Commission and the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Privacy. Hong speaks English, Cantonese and Chiu Chow dialect. He has been ranked as a Band 1 lawyer in Employment Hong Kong Law by Chambers Asia Pacific (2017 and 2018) and a "Leading individual" in Employment Law by Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2015-2018). He has been recognised by Who's Who Legal (2015) as being among the world's leading lawyers for employment and labour practice in Hong Kong. He was named as one of the "pre-eminent practitioners in the world" and "one of the world's leading lawyers" by Guide to the World's Leading Labour & Employment Lawyers (2011). He was also named a Leading Asia Law Labour & Employment Lawyer by the Asia Law & Practice Survey (2008). Hong has contributed to leading employment and discrimination law textbooks "Chitty on Contracts, Hong Kong Specific Contracts" Chapter 7, "Employment Law and Practice in Hong Kong" Chapters 3 & 5 and "Discrimination Law and Practice in Hong Kong" Chapters 4 and 7 (and Co-General Editor).

Mr Barry Ip, Vice President, HKIHRM

Mr Barry Ip is a global HR leader with over 20 years of solid work experience. He

has previously worked at senior level in a number of prominent companies such

as the The Hong Kong Jockey Club and Microsoft etc.

Barry is currently working as the Global Learning and Development Leader with a

famous Fortune 500 company, driving people development agenda

internationally. He is the Vice President and Co-Chairperson of the Learning &

Development Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource

Management (HKIHRM). He is also a member of the People Development

Committee of the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA). In addition, he

is the Director of Development and Research Center, The Belt and Road Initiative

and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Visiting Professor of

Jiangxi University of Finance Economics plus Visiting Professor of Renmin

University of China.

Ms Kate Lai, Director, Tax, KPMG

Ms Kate Lai started her career in corporate taxation and has worked with clients

across different industries including banking and finance, entertainment,

pharmaceutical, retail, real estate, technology and telecommunications. During

the course of her work, she works closely with senior executives of corporations

and business owners. She is now a Director of KPMG's Global Mobility Services

team and focuses on employment and individual tax advisory services. She

advises on a full range of personal tax and visa issues and her clients include

multi-national corporations with globally mobile employees, senior executives

and high net worth individuals. She is experienced in individual tax planning, tax

efficient employment structures, equity compensation and cross-border tax

issues. She has successfully led projects in income tax planning and dispute

resolution with tax authorities.

Ms Joanna Lee, Vice President, Human Resources, Lever Style Group

Before joining Lever Style Group, Ms Joanna Lee held senior HR positions at Fortune 500 MNCs and international organisations. She enables organisations to make better decisions about HRM, enhancing company culture, driving change, building strategic leadership and enabling company development in her role overseeing human capital strategies across group-level operations. For the past years, she has been working in China (stationed in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Guangzhou) and she has grown HR strategies and applied them across multiple regions, levels and organisational structures. She graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Master of Science Degree in Strategic Human Resources Management.

Mr Francis Mok, Executive Council Member, HKIHRM

Mr Francis Mok is a seasoned HR professional, with proven experience and achievements in leading strategy formulation, policy establishment and execution in HR management, training and development and talent management. As Past President and a Fellow Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM), Mr Mok has served the Institute in various capacities for over 20 years. He started with various HKIHRM Committees since the 90’s, served the Institute as a member of the HKIHRM Executive Council since 2005, the Vice President from 2007 to 2010 and the President from 2010 to 2015. Mr Mok is also a Past President of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) leading the establishment of HR standards and practices in the APFHRM membership countries especially the developing countries. Mr Mok is actively promoting knowledge and skills to HR practitioners and students through sharing of HR best practices, lecturing and training for the Institute, tertiary institutes and professional bodies.

Mr Trey Davis, Regional Leader, Executive Compensation – Asia Pacific, Willis Towers Watson

Mr Trey Davis is a Director in Willis Towers Watson’s Executive Compensation practice and has 20 years of consulting experience with some of the world’s best known firms, including nearly a decade of experience working in Asia. Trey is now based in Hong Kong for the second time, where he serves as the leader for the firm’s Executive Compensation practice in Asia and Australasia. Trey has experience in all areas of senior executive and Board member compensation, including providing cross-border transactional advice during mergers, acquisitions and IPOs, Board structure and governance, executive transition arrangements, and the design of short-term and long-term incentive plans for global and local companies. His clients include companies from around the world, including US, Europe and Asia. His work with Hong Kong and Mainland China companies includes locally listed firms, H-share and N-share companies and SOE’s. Before joining Willis Towers Watson, Trey was an analyst in a venture capital unit of a global telecommunications firm and a broker for an investment and securities firm. Trey has authored articles on the design and use of cash-based long-term incentives for The Society for Human Resource Management. He is a frequent public speaker and has been quoted in the Asian Wall Street Journal, the South China Morning Post and other newspapers. Education and Credentials Trey earned a BA in Psychology from Wake Forest University and an MBA with a concentration in finance from the College of William & Mary.

Ms Ka-shi Lau, BBS, Managing Director & CEO, BCT Group

Ms Ka-shi Lau is the Managing Director & CEO of BCT Group (comprising BCT Financial Limited (BCTF) and Bank Consortium Trust Company Limited (BCTC)), a key provider of MPF/ORSO products and best-in-class asset servicing for investment funds and pensions with BCTC being one of the largest trust companies in Hong Kong. Graduated from Cornell University in the US with an MBA, Ka-shi also completed an Executive Leadership Programme in Global Finance at the Institute of Global Economics and Finance in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a strong advocate of corporate governance (including ESG), caring initiatives promoting employee well-being, social inclusion and diversity, health care, and retirement protection through active participation in government consultations and industry dialogues. Apart from her current role as Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Trustees’ Association, she serves on the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA), Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), Asian Corporate Governance Association, Hong Kong Retirement Schemes Association, Asia-Pacific Financial Forum (APFF) – Retirement and Long-Term Investment Working Group, Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), and Investor Education Centre. Her public service roles include the Independent Commission (on remuneration of ExCo; LegCo and officials under political appointment system), Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, and Our Hong Kong Foundation’s “Business for Social Good” Platform while her previous roles include the Minimum Wage Commission, Hospital Authority, Women’s Commission, Community Investment & Inclusion Fund, and Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Dr Gloria Siu, Chief Executive, Gain Miles Group

Dr Gloria Siu is the Chief Executive of Gain Miles Group, a professional consultancy group specializing in risk management, human resources and employee benefits. Gain Miles is one of the founding members of the Hong Kong Confederation of Insurance Brokers. Gloria has over 20 years experience in the insurance industry; expertise on all industry aspects including corporate pension, employee benefits, general insurance and financial planning, from operations to business development; individuals to corporations. With the aim to increase public awareness on MPF and retirement, Gloria led the Gain Miles Research Team to conduct MPF focused studies and publish findings every year. Holding her belief in active management and continuous education, more than 300 seminars on various MPF development topics were conducted and the unique corporate solution – Pension Advisory Model was developed. Gloria has also a great interest in healthcare development in Hong Kong, research focuses on employment-based health insurance value and efficiency. Gloria is a member of the standing Advisory Committee of Investor Education Centre (IEC) and Investigation Panel of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) appointed by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau since 2017, Gloria holds an MBA from the University of Leicester, UK and a business administration doctorate degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Mr Alvin Low-Thue, Associate Client Partner, Korn Ferry

Mr Alvin Low-Thue is an Associate Client Partner for Korn Ferry, based in the firm’s Hong Kong office. Mr Low-Thue has worked with many clients in the greater China area, focusing on job evaluation, building effective grading structures, designing rewards mechanism, developing talent and leadership competencies, assessing talents, improving organisational effectiveness, and restructuring. Throughout the years, Mr Low-Thue has worked with all job levels and organisation sizes ranging from small-medium enterprises to multinational corporations. He has significant experience reviewing and redesigning human resource strategies and business processes for organisations in various industries including airlines, chemical, manufacturing, non-profit and statutory bodies. Expertise Mr Low-Thue has significant experience in job evaluation and rewards structure design, helping various organisations build grading structures and rewards mechanism that will fit their nature and business objectives. He has also helped various companies to identify suitable talents that will fit their particular culture. Mr Low-Thue is an expert in strategy and policy development and clarification, operating model and design, organisational and leadership development, transformation programme design and management, and cultural change and change management.

Academic and Professional background Prior to being a professional consultant, Mr Low-Thue gained practical experience as a general manager of a manufacturing company. He understands the challenges faced by business and helps form practical solutions with theories acquired from his master degree in human resource management and development.

Ms Jaz Wong, Senior Relationship Manager, LinkedIn HK

Ms Jaz Wong has over 10 years of experience in sales and marketing in HR digital platform. In her first year in LinkedIn, she was one of the foundation team members involved in setting up LinkedIn China, helping their China clients to see the value of LinkedIn and grow China business. In recent years, she has focused on the Hong Kong market to help organisations transform from traditional recruiting to social recruiting, and turning LinkedIn big data into insights and competitive advantages.
