Board Nominations It’s time for nominations for open positions on the Board. We have a nominating committee and they are collecting names for possible officers and directors. If you or someone you know is willing to serve on the Board, contact a Board member to have the name sent to the nominating committee. Nominations may be made at any meeting prior to the Annual Meeting on June 4 when the election will be held.

Volunteers Needed There are several committee chair positions looking for volunteers: Public Education, Training Supplies, and Rally Show Prep. Please contact the Club President or Vice President to volunteer or for more information.

February Tracking Test

GKCDTC offered a six track Tracking Dog Excellent test on February 23rd at Smithville Lake Recreation Area. Our judges, Vincent Ramirez and Lois Leidahl-Marsh, worked hard on Saturday starting at 8:30am plotting great tracks. The test was full, but on Sunday we had unseasonably warm weather for a weekend in February; which mayhave caused issues for some of the teams. Sadly there were no passes at this test, but there were several good elements on each track by the dogs/handlers. Their day is coming!

Thank you to the tracking committee: Ellen Lash, Sandy Burns, Rosi von Fintel, Pat Robinette, Ginny Mohr, Jan Winner and Debbie McHenry for all your work and dedication to this sport; without you we could not have held a test.

Big thanks go out to our tracklayers. Tracklayers are the heart of tracking and this weekend we had some great ones: Anita Raithel, serving as chief tracklayer as well as laying track, Karen Shawhan, Nancy Parsons-Wright, Bruce Perkins, Ray Laughlin and Kim Krohn.Cross track layers are also required for tracking dog excellent tests to challenge the dog’s dedication to the scent of their track; thank you to Rosi v Fintel and Neida for stepping in on Sunday and putting those in for us as well as the other tracklayers. Thank you to Chris Lero for driving our judges both days and big thanks to Dory Hall for the great hospitality on Sunday for everyone!

Our next tests are March 1st at Smithville Lake for the Tracking Dog test at 9am and March 15th for the Variable Surface Tracking test in southern Overland Park.

Your Training Directors: Rosi v.Fintel Debbie McHenry Cathy Ewing

Scent Work is searching…

From the Editor: We all love brags! In an effort to streamline the brag section of the newsletter I would like to ask a favor. Please keep your brags concise. We are looking to keep individual brags to approximately 100 words. In future editions excessively long brags will have the option to be edited by the submitter or edited for length by the editor. Thank you for your understanding, and keep those brags coming!

Inez Pennington retired her agility dog *MACH3 PACH Andretti Spaghetti *in 2019 after AKC Agility Nationals in Tulsa (where he had 3 out of 4 clean runs & placed 12th in Premier Standard). 4 y.o. wild child rescue Andretti was introduced to the sport to find a channel for his high energy, but had trouble meeting the prerequisite for his first agility class at D.O.G. in 2012: to walk calmly on a leash.

Combined with Inez's background riding hunter/jumpers, raw beginner Andretti & his green handler took to the sport immediately & worked at getting proficient enough to take classes with Mickey Rabeneck. He achieved his first MACH in 2015 (after rehabbing from double iliopsoas tears from playing on ice & missed qualifying for 2016 Nationals) and won an AKC championship per year after that.

He earned a Gold Medal in both Jumpers and Standard, competed at 2017 Nationals in Perry and during his career turned in over 100 clean Master level Jumper runs. He has just turned 12, and after 80 Double-Q's is still healthy, sound & happy. He also has his Advanced Trick title from AKC.

I was very pleased that my dogs Kali and Pleiades both got their CGC certificates on Feb 20th. That was Kali's 2nd birthday, and Pleades is her younger 11 month old full sister, so it was a family affair! Thank you so much Theresa for the great prep class, and thank you to the very patient and caring tester! -Jackie Athon
