Parent Concerns

“Just a quick line abut Will's science homework today, which was to write about dialysis in his own words.

When you look at Will's work, you will see how he has cut and paste from Wikipedia. Apart from the dubious nature of some of the information on

Wikipedia , he has committed plagiarism .

William is so stubborn, he would not let me help him with this homework.  I explained what plagiarism is but he wasn't interested.

As his mum he knows I know nothing.”

“although children who cheat in school do not fit any defined profile, they're usually students “who are much more focused on getting good grades and

extrinsically motivated rather than intrinsically motivated by a desire to learn.””

What makes a balanced diet? What makes a balanced diet?

“A healthy diet is one that is balanced. This means eating the right amount of food for how active you are, and eating a range of food from the five main food groups. These are:carbohydrates, which contain lots of energy and nutrients and are found in starchy foods, such as bread, pasta and potatoes , protein, which helps the body to grow and repair itself (is found in meat, fish, beans and eggs) fruit and vegetables , milk and dairy foods and foods that are high in fat and sugar”

The NHS website (2010) states

Hunter(2001) supports this claim “the best diet contains food from five groups – Carbohydrates, Protein, Fats, Dairy, Vegetables & High calorie foods”

In order to keep as healthy as possible it is a good idea to eat sensibly and to include lots of different types of food.

Hunter, F. (2001) Food for Your Body: How to Look and Feel Your Best. London: Reader's Digest

Reading this information, I now realise how important it is to try and avoid eating too much fast food and sweets as this kind of diet might make me feel unwell and cause me problems when I am older.
