I would like to thank you for your letter I received this week.I am grateful you have contacted me to express your concerns. Thank you for taking the time to write to me.

I understand that you and your members were horrified to hear about what happened to Connor Sparrowhawk.It is very upsetting. I am deeply sorry Connor died in our care and we didn’t do enough to support him.

The report is very long. We are working to produce an easy read summary of the report and the key findings. As soon as this is ready we will send it to you to share with your members.An easy read version of our response to the report is included with this letter.

We agree that there are changes that need to be made.We agree that we need to work with our commissioners to make some positive changes.We agree that we need to listen to our patients more and involve them in decisions about how the new model of care will look in Oxfordshire.

We want to involve advocates and families in training. We know their experience can help us improve.We also want to use ‘experts by experience’ to help us improve.

We are dedicated to producing as much information as possible in an accessible way and have a number of projects underway to do this including creating new information on our website.

We would really like to use your role with My Life My Choice to help us engage with patients to make sure that we get things right.

I am really pleased to hear Jason Warner has helped you do lots of good work.We have a lot of very good nurses in Oxfordshire.

I am working very closely with staff within our learning disabilities team to make the changes needed. I will continue to do so until I am confident that improvements have been made and we are making sure people have the best quality care possible.

We really value the work you do. Thank you for the support you give to people with learning disabilities in Oxfordshire.
