We’re both turning 40 this year !!

Essex Senior Center ‘s 40th Anniversary Celebration

The Essex Senior Center evolved in 1977 from an organizational meeting attended by interested seniors, local community leaders, and

government officials. Approval was given in 1978 to occupy a single room in one of the two buildings known as the old Essex Elementary.

Once the lunch program got started on February 27, 1978, the Essex Senior Center was officially opened. The old Essex Elementary School was

transformed into a 12,500 square foot senior center. Ground breaking took place on January 11, 1982, and the doors were officially

opened on May 9, 1983.

40 years ago, Essex Senior Center promised to be a vibrant and active center that provides educational, recreational, fitness, and health

opportunities for active seniors.

We have kept our word! So we will be celebrating our achievements throughout 2018 with a series of events leading up to our big

40th Anniversary Celebration, which is scheduled for September.

Look for our 40th anniversary logo in each 2018 newsletter to identify events leading up to our 40th anniversary and

for more details on events to come!

Celebration of Veterans

On November 9, 2017, Essex Senior Center celebrated our veterans by offering a delicious meal of baked ziti, salad, and cheesecake. Terry Marsh provided the entertainment by singing amazing

patriotic songs along with some oldies. A very special thank you goes out to

Dora Lee Price and her A-team. Every year this group seems to out do themselves!
