(pillowcase band)• 1⁄2 yard dark blue swirl print
(pillowcase band)• 1⁄4 yard dark blue wave print
(pillowcase band)• 7⁄8 yard blue swirl print
(pillowcase body)
Finished pillowcase: 303⁄4 ×20" (fits a standard-size bed pillow).
Yardages and cutting instructions are based on 42" of usable fabric width. Measurements include 1⁄4" seam allowances for piecing strips and 1⁄2" seam allowances for pillowcase construction. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.
Cut FabricsPillowcase band shapes were cut with the AccuQuilt GO! Spider Web die (#55487). If you wish to use templates instead, the patterns are on page 5.
From multicolor blue print, cut:• 6 each of patterns A, B,
B reversed, C, C reversed, D, and D reversed
From dark blue swirl print, cut:• 6 each of patterns A, B,
B reversed, C, C reversed, D, and D reversed
• 1—21⁄2 ×61⁄2" rectangle• 2—11⁄2 ×61⁄2" rectanglesFrom dark blue wave print, cut:• 1—61⁄2 ×401⁄2" stripFrom blue swirl print, cut:• 1—26 ×41" rectangle
Assemble Spider Web BlocksPress seams toward darker fabric.
1. Sew together multicolor blue A piece and dark blue swirl B piece (Diagram 1). Add multicolor blue C piece (Diagram 2).
2. Add dark blue swirl D piece to Step 1 unit (Diagram 3).
3. Sew dark blue swirl B reversed piece to Step 2 unit (Diagram 4).
4. Add multicolor blue C reversed piece to Step 3 unit (Diagram 5).
5. Add dark blue swirl D reversed piece to Step 4 unit to make a light block half (Diagram 6).
6. Repeat steps 1–5 using dark blue swirl A, C, and C reversed pieces, and multicolor blue print B, B reversed, D, and D reversed pieces to make a dark half block (Diagram 7).
7. Join light and dark block half to make a Spider Web block (Spider Web Block).
8. Repeat steps 1–7 to make six Spider Web blocks total.
Assemble BandUse a 1⁄4" seam allowance for the following steps.
1 Referring to Band Assembly Diagram, lay out in a row dark blue swirl print 11⁄2 ×61⁄2" rectangles, dark blue swirl print 21⁄2 ×61⁄2" rectangle, and Spider Web blocks, orienting blocks to create the pattern shown. Join pieces to make a pieced strip. The strip should be 61⁄2 ×401⁄2" including seam allowances.
2. Sew together pieced strip and dark blue wave print 61⁄2 ×401⁄2" strip (Band Assembly Diagram).
3. Join short ends of Step 2 unit to make a loop. Press seam open. Fold loop in half with wrong side inside; press to make pillowcase band.
Assemble Pillowcase1. Fold blue swirl print 26 ×41"
rectangle in half to form a 26 ×201⁄2" rectangle. Sew together a set of long edges and a set of short edges to make pillowcase body. Turn right side out; press flat.
2. Matching raw edges and seams, slide pillowcase band over pillowcase body with pieced side of band facing right side of pillowcase body (Diagram 8); pin. Sew together band and pillowcase body.
3. Press pillowcase band open, pressing seam allowances toward pillowcase body. Topstitch 1⁄8" from band edge to secure seam allowance and complete pillowcase (Diagram 9).
