1. Cantus lacrimosusStabat Mater dolorosajuxta crucem lacrimosa, dum pendebat Filius.

Vidit suum dulcem natummoriendo desolatum, dum emisit spiritum.

Eia Mater, fons amoris,me sentire vim dolorisfac, ut tecum lugeam.

Fac, ut ardeat cor meumin amando Christum Deum,ut sibi complaceam.4. Lament (Carol Barratt)

At the cross her station keeping, stoodthe mournful mother weeping, close to Jesus to the last.

Through her heart, his sorrow sharing, all his bitter anguish bearing, now at length the sword has passed.

O how sad and sore distressedwas that Mother, highly blest,of the sole-begotten One.

Christ above in torment hangs, she beneath beholds the pangsof her dying glorious Son.

Pray for us,O Holy Mary,O mother of God,O virgin of virgins, pray for us.

Is there one who would not weep, whelmed in miseries so deep,Christ's dear Mother to behold?

Can the human heart refrainfrom partaking in her pain,in that Mother's pain untold?

For the sins of his own nation, she saw Jesus wracked with torment, all with scourges rent.

She beheld her tender child, saw him hang in desolation, till his spirit forth he sent.

O thou Mother! fount of love!Touch my spirit from above, make my heart with thine accord:

make me feel as thou hast felt;make my soul to glow and meltwith the love of Christ my Lord.

5. Sancta Mater

Sancta Mater, istud agas, crucifixi fige plagascordi meo valide.

Tui nati vulneratitam dignati pro me patipoenas mecum divide.

Fac me tecum pie flerecrucifixo condolere, donec ego vixero.

Juxta crucem tecum stareet me tibi sociarein planctu desidero.

Holy Mother! pierce me through,in my heart each wound renewof my Saviour crucified:

let me share with thee his pain, who for all my sins was slain, who for me in torments died.

Let me mingle tears with thee, mourning him who mourned for me,all the days that I may live:

by the cross with thee to stay, there with thee to weep and pray,is all I ask of thee to give.

8. Virgo virginumVirgo virginum praeclara, mihi iam non sis amara;fac me tecum plangere.

Feeling all the grief and sorrow. We live life with shadows in our hearts and minds, with tears that wait to fall when sorrow in the world is more than we can truly bear.

We hear the cries of children, we see death cast shadows on their hearts and minds, as mothersin their grief stand crying, weeping, weeping, crying, crying, weeping, weeping for this world.

On our bed of thorns such sorrow must surely end, our tears can wash away the sins of theworld, no more crying, weeping, weeping, crying, crying, weeping, weeping in this world, thisworld.

6. Now my life is only weeping (the Poet Rumi)(Sung in English & Aramaic)Now my life is only weeping, like a candle melting, like a flute my cries are song.

Barchay balchoordd hasha haina, sharach barmooth shaoothshra, barmooth baroof rauvai kal.

7. And the Mother did weep (Karl Jenkins)Vehaeym bachetah (Hebrew); Lacrimavit Mater (Latin)Warkath hahi imma (Aramaic); Kai eklausen he meter (Greek)

Virgin of all virgins blest!Listen to my fond request:let me share thy grief divine.

9. Are you lost out in darkness? (from “The Epic(Sung in English & Aramaic)Are you lost out in darkness? Is your sleep, your silence, endless? Can you no more hear my voice?

Ahtu sheereek bercheshka? Damkuthak shetkaak dalalam?Meshar arlam mashma kaalee ?

10. Ave VerumAve verum corpus natumde Maria Virgine.Vere passum, immolatum incruce pro homine. Cujuslatus perforatum fluxitaqua et sanguine. Estonobis praegustatummortis in examine.

Jesu dulcis! Jesu pie,Fili Mariae. Amen.

Hail, true body, born of the Virgin Mary, truly suffered, sacrificedon the cross for mankind, whose pierced sideflowed with water and blood,be for us a foretastein the trial of death.

Sweet Jesus! Blessed Jesus,Son of Mary. Amen.

11. Fac, ut portem Christi mortemFac, ut portem Christi mortem, passionis fac me sortem,et plagas recolere.

Fac me plagis vulnerari,Fac me cruce inebriariet cruore Filii.

Amen.Alleluia.

Let me, to my latest breath,in my body bear the deathof your dying son divine.

Wounded with his every wound, steep my soul till it hath swoonedin his very blood away.

Be to me, O Virgin, nigh, lest in flames I burn and die,in his awful Judgment Day.

Christ, when thou shalt call mehence, by thy Mother my defence,by thy cross my victory.

When my body dies, let my soul be grantedthe glory of Paradise. Amen.Alleuia.

Composed in 2008, Karl Jenkins' Stabat Mater is the longest choral workbased on the 13th century prayer Stabat Mater Dolorosa. The poem reflectson the suffering of Mary, mother of Jesus, at the time of his crucifixion andincludes other writings by Jenkins, his wife Carol Barratt, the poet Rumi, and The Epic of Gilgamesh. With a decidedly Middle Eastern feel to it by instrumentation and earlyAramaic and Arabic texts, Danielle Vaillancourt portrays the sorrowful Maryas she sees Jesus in torment and suffering. She is also a voice for the sufferingof the world as “my cries are song...lost out in darkness” . This is resolvedwhen we achieve the glory of paradise: paradisi gloria.

I am grateful to the choir who has worked hard with unfamiliar languagesand interesting harmonies to bring this work to fruition. It is important tocelebrate the works of living composers and the choir has risen to the challenge with this third work inperformances of Jenkins' writings. The Armed Man (2013), The Peacemakers (2015 - Carnegie Hall) andStabat Mater.

Sir Karl Jenkins (b. 1944 - Wales) is one of the most performedliving composers in the world. Educated at Gowerton Grammar

School, Cardiff University and the Royal Academy of Music,London, The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace alone has been

performed over 2000 times in 20 different countries since the CDwas released while his recorded output has resulted in seventeen

gold and platinum disc awards.

Compositions include Requiem, Stabat Mater, Quirk, StellaNatalis, The Peacemakers, Motets, Cantata Memoria, The Healers,

and Symphonic Adiemus. He has composed music for HRH ThePrince of Wales, Bryn Terfel, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dame Evelyn

Glennie and the London Symphony Orchestra amongst manyothers.

A Doctor of Music, he holds Fellowships, Honorary Doctorates andProfessorships at five universities or conservatoires, including the

Royal Academy of Music, where a room has been named in hishonour. In November 2009 he was given the Cymru For The World

Award and in March 2010 was honoured with the Hopkins Medalgiven by the St. David’s Society for the State of New York.

In 2015 he was confirmed as the most popular living composer inClassic FM’s ‘Ultimate Hall of Fame’ and holds the Classic FM ‘Red

f’ award for ‘outstanding service to classical music’. He wasawarded a Knighthood in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours for
