PATRIOT GOLF DAY

The 7th Annual Patriot Golf Day® will be held nationwide this upcoming Labor Day Weekend, August 30 – September 2, 2013.

A joint initiative of The PGA of America and the USGA, Patriot Golf Day® enlists the support of public and private golf facilities

across the country. On Labor Day Weekend, public golf courses will request a minimum $1 donation for each green fee,

while private courses will ask patrons to donate a sum. These funds will support the Folds of Honor Foundation, providing

post-secondary educational scholarships to the children and spouses of service members killed or disabled while serving in

America’s Armed Forces.

PROGRAM ELEMENTS

1. From August 30 – September 2, 2013:

• Public courses are asked to collect a $1 minimum donation in addition to greens fees from all golfers.

• Private clubs are asked to collect donations in any sum from members and guests.

2. Host Facilities/PGA Professionals have fl exibility to help maximize the success of Patriot Golf Day. Some ideas include:

• Post event details on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media sites.

• Place a donation container along with a tent card at the register.

• Inform golfers that they may donate more than $1, if they wish.

• Inform golfers that they may donate online at FoldsofHonor.org/donate.

• In addition to Labor Day weekend, consider running the Patriot Golf Day promotion the entire month.

• Encourage your Men’s and Women’s Clubs to run events.

• Coordinate a Patriot Golf Day tournament.

• Coordinate a marathon and accept pledges.

• Run a “Closest To The Hole” contest, or any other contest to encourage participation and increase donations.

• Hold a silent auction or raffl e, with prizes donated.

• Give free 10-minute lessons on the range and request donations.

• Give $1 (or more) from every golf lesson as a donation, or have $1 per minute golf lessons.

• Have your facility match donations made by your golfers.

• Ask a sponsor, such as a local business, to match all donations generated.

• Give free range balls for donations.

• Offer package deals, including golf, range balls and a lesson, with a portion of the package price going towards a donation.

• Purchase Patriot Golf Day and Folds of Honor merchandise and accessories. A percentage of the proceeds from all merchandise sales will benefi t the Folds of Honor Foundation. Visit PatriotGolfDay.com for a list of participating vendors and their products.

• Offer incentives on merchandise purchases. For instance, instead of discounts for golfers, direct the savings on purchases towards donations (Ex. $5 donation for every shirt purchase).

• Allow Veterans to play golf for free and request donations.

• Use American Flags for your pin fl ags and/or purchase Patriot Golf Day pin fl ags. Information available at PatriotGolfDay.com.

• Use multiple locations to accept donations. For instance, golf shop, grill room, fi rst tee, range, beverage cart, etc.

TIPS TO PROMOTE

Patriot Golf Day will once again receive extensive national media attention, including promotions through Golf Digest, Golfweek,

CBS, NBC, and Golf Channel, as well as an extensive public relations campaign. Participating facilities will also be listed on

PlayGolfAmerica.com.

1. Conduct local marketing/promotions:

• Use social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to promote your events.

• For suggestions, see the Social Media Tool Kit at PGALinks.com.

• Send a press release to your local media, including daily and weekly newspapers, radio stations, television stations and local websites that promote community events.

• Media prefer communications sent via email. If you can’t email, then fax or mail.

• For daily newspapers and local TV affi liates, send out communications at least one week prior to the start of the event. The more notice you can provide, the better.

• Promote Patriot Golf Day via email to your database of customers, leagues, associations, etc.

• Post the Patriot Golf Day logo on your website.

• Promote Patriot Golf Day in your newsletters.

2. Use promotional materials provided:

• Hang the poster in your most visible location.

• Place the tent cards at your register and around your facility.

• Make copies of the fl yer to post in visible locations and pass along to local businesses.

3. Download additional materials at PatriotGolfDay.com:

• Print additional posters and fl yers to display and use at your facility.

• Use the Press Release template.

• Distribute the Fact Sheet to your staff so they are ready to inform customers about the event and answer any questions.

4. Community Marketing:

• Ask local VFW, and ROTC to help with promotion and/or involvement.

• Ask VFW Color Guard to participate the day of your event.

• VA hospitals may wish to help with promotion and/or involvement.

• Recruit local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce to get involved, both for playing and promoting the event.

5. Inform Your Staff:

• To help ensure success, please make sure everyone on your staff is aware of your involvement in Patriot Golf Day and able to answer questions about the event.

POST EVENT

Complete the Fundraising Report Form and write one check for the total amount raised. Please do not send cash. Make

check payable to the Folds of Honor Foundation. You may also submit donations and the Fundraising Report Form online

at FoldsofHonor.org/donate.

Use the enclosed return envelope for the Fundraising Report Form and please send by November 15, 2013 to:
