Pathways

First Baptist Church has been blessed during the holiday season. On the Monday beforeChristmas we were able to serve 334 families. They received plenty of food since we would be closed on Christmas Day. They also received candy, a turkey and toys were handed out.  The average number of families  served in the past seven weeks has been 255. We have been blessed with many donations including ones from Ingersoll School, Eastview School and Wesley Church. We also received a donation from Ameren of canned goods and $3,622.00 while a $5,000 food donation came from DOT Foods.

On December 9, a can drive led by Tray Dewitt, an employee of the Canton School District 66, and other employees were at Hy-Vee from 10 am to 4 pm, and received a wonderful response with 1500 cans and boxed items added to the Food Pantry. We thank them for their time and energy spent to help us out. Not one to be outdone,

Food Pantry News

Trey VanHouton and Denny Wagner had a Christmas party where everyone brought can goods. They collected 11/2 pick-up trucks of food. The blessings keep coming! God is great!

I also heard of a drive between the children and adults of our church that happened during November. I know that the adults won the competition but then maybe parents put food in the adult cart rather than their children’s cart. That was another way to help our Food Pantry and we appreciate all you are doing to help. There is always a place outside the office for your donations and food is needed every week to keep our pantry going. Thank you to all!

Welcome to one of the newest members of First Baptist Church!

Christine Jenkins was born in Tempe, Arizona, on June 19, 1967. She moved to this area and graduated from Canton High School. She went on to get her Associates Degree and has worked as an office clerk, title clerk, computers and has done home health and childcare. Christine enjoys doing crafts, especially with children, and helping the elderly who are homebound.

Christine has three sons, DJ, Brad and Curtis and one daughter, Angel. She also has six granddaughters and two grandsons to love! She would like to get to Arizona someday to meet her nephew. Christine enjoys grilled chicken, salads and her favorite place to eat is Olive Garden.

Christine attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church as a child and teenager. After some serious soul searching and after having met Susie Berry, she came to FBC. She likes the warm welcome she received here and feeling the Spirit of God move. She wants to be a God-worthy Christian. We welcome you, Christine!!

Children’s MinistryHappy New Year! I’m looking forward to a fun and exciting year of working with ourchildren in discovering that God has a plan and purpose for their life. Genesis 1:27 –28a tells us “So God created mankind in His image. In the

image of God, He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them…” God created us as extension of Himself and we have the opportunity to fulfill that role He gave us every day of our lives here on earth. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy! I’m so thankful for God’s grace that He offers me EVERY day, because I fail to meet His standards EVERY day.

Our children need to know that God extends that grace to them as well, and that life is hard. But through Jesus, we have the forgiveness and love offered to us every day to pick ourselves up and keep running after all that God has offered to us.

We are starting the year off talking about prayer; how to pray, when to pray and what prayer does for our lives. I’m also very excited to announce that we’ll be studying “The Case for Christ” on Wednes-day evenings with our children at Kid’s ROCK. They will see evidence and scientific research that supports Jesus’ life, ministry and miracles while he was here on earth.

We’re even preparing for our 2018 VBS, “Game on” with the theme teaching our kids that “His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3. I’m so excited to see our children grow closer in their relationship with Jesus this year, with the hope that we’ll even see some of the kiddos realize what they have through Him and take the steps to acknowl-edge and accepting Jesus as their Savior!

Best wishes for a safe, healthy and happy 2018!Love and blessings,

Gretchen ThumChildren’s Ministry Director

Mission HighlightDuring the month of January, you will be hearing about the Retired Ministers & Missionaries Offering that we will be collecting on January 21. RMMO provides financial support for the retired ministers, missionaries and widowed spouses who have helped build our churches andAmerican Baptist witness. Through RMMO, American Baptist churches have an opportunity to teach children, youth and young adults about the service of our church’s current leaders, along with retired ministers and missionaries.

Rev. Dr. Laura Sinclair is quoted: “I tell the people in the pews how important it is for them to help those pastors who are retired to maintain a good life. This is a way they can say thank you to all the pastors and

their families for the sacrifices they made while they were pastoring and doing God’s work of saving souls.”

Please begin praying now about what you can give back to those who have served selflessly.
