HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION & REMINDERS

Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHMIS) regulations are changing to adopt GHS. There are several key changes to current practices of chemical labeling and hazard communica-tion that will affect U of G personnel handling hazardous materials. Beginning in Fall 2015 U of G personnel handling hazardous materials will be required to take WHMIS 2015 course which will be available online and in class.

While WHMIS training has always been mandatory for those handling hazardous materials, the significant changes introduced with GHS require such personnel to participate in WHMIS 2015 training. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that all personnel under their supervision complete WHMIS training before handling hazardous materials. Personnel who have completed WHMIS training prior to September 1, 2015, are asked to complete WHMIS 2015 training by December 31, 2015. WHMIS training completed since September 1, 2015 meets the WHMIS 2015 requirements. > OVC BULLETIN
