Voice migration first phase of voice pilot activity – Pathfinder • The voice migration and pilot activity in preparation for voice network
migration is known as Pathfinder
• This pilot activity involves voice line migrations only at present
• The pilot is taking place in a small area of South Wales
• Pathfinder is providing learning and helping to build confidence for large scale migrations
• All planning and operational activities are carried out in close collaboration with a working group of service providers
• We are contacting service providers with customers in the area ahead of migration activities
Pathfinder
• The first phase of Pathfinder has now successfully completed
• 15 exchanges migrated to 21CN in the South Wales area
• The final 3 exchanges (Llandaff, Whitchurch and Llanishen) were successfully migrated on 7th May 09
• There were no issues with the migration of 3 sites in a night
• CPE payment machines that caused issues at previous sites were successfully groomed
• A total of 64K working customer lines have been migrated to 21CN
• XXX number of calls have been carried over 21CN

Learning from Pathfinder so far
• Key findings
- Proved the slow start approach taken is the correct one
- Tested the technology, processes and supporting tools with CPs
- Fault numbers continue to run at a low level, at or below numbers for 20C
• Niche CPE problems now understood and fixes planned
• No significant issues with Caller Display, burglar alarms or ATMs
• No recent significant platform issues, good call quality & good network performance
• CP confidence built
Pathfinder – the next phase
• Moving into “Pathfinder Volume POTS”
• Voice migrations only, not ISDN2/30
• January 2010 through to July 2010 • Increasing the South Wales footprint
• 7 DLEs to be migrated – Cardiff G, L, E, F, Bridgend, Cardiff B & Pontypridd
• Will complete the migration of up to 260K lines
• No change to architecture for Pathfinder Volume POTS - Ericsson based call server
• Gradual migration of groomed or regressed lines will take place
• July 2009 – September 2009 - Call Server and MSAN upgrades in Pathfinder area – providing further functionality and increased industrialisation
• Will provide key learning following migration of a complete DLE in a night
