Kimberly Arthur-Melton -I grew up in Des Moines,Iowa and attended Iowa
State University where I received a Bachelor ofArts Degree in Applied Art with my emphasis intextiles.
My first sewing adventure was a wool crewelwork bell pull on linen that my sister gave mewhen I was 11. I taught myself all of the stitchesand completed the piece. It hangs in my mothers'home today. I started quilting in high schoolworking with the church sewing group in thesummer. In college I designed and screen printedblocks and set them into a quilt for one of my artclasses. My first quilting class was a GeorgiaBonesteel style quilting class, "quilt as yougo" (never finished) - and Yes! All of this wasbefore the rotary cutter!
Along the way I designed, pieced andembroidered a quilt for my church centennialand later I was commissioned to create a piecedand appliqued quilt by the Iowa Department ofAgriculture for the Iowa State Fair.
Coming to Kansas City, I joined the Harper'sFabrics staff, wearing many hats over the years, most recently as service technician for theHusqvarna Viking and Pfaff sewing machines.
Which brings me to Jo's Little Women Club. I havebeen involved with it since 2006, firstcontributing, then as a co-leader and morerecently, leader. Working with the small scalehas improved my skills and even verycomplicated blocks are less intimidating.
Besides sewing and quilting I enjoy collectingglass paperweights, (I have close to 100), history, travel and time with family and of course myquilting friends.

The Charity Report
251 was the final count for 2017. Doyou think we can do more than that in 2018? Frankly Ithink we should all be proud. At the Januarymeeting, Chris Peasewas awarded $25.00 forpiecing the most tops. She pieced over 50 last year. And PatWilliams was awarded $25.00for quilting the most. She quilted 21. It's not really a contest, but it was great to be able togive something to a couple of gals who have really stepped up and put the time and effortinto the charity quilts. But really, thank you all.
And the best newsever - Chris Peasehas offered to take over the charity committee alongwith the assistance of Chris 0' Hare. A small charity bee is being formed aswell. I lookforward to helping it take off. And yes, I look forward to getting mybasement back aswell. If you are interested in participating in the bee, contact Chris or Chris.
Thecount starts overwith the newyear. Safe Homewas given 25 quilts in January. That'sspectacular.
Asyou all know, the charity sewday is our Februarymeeting. Hopeyou all will participate. It's like the biggest retreat ever. If you know for sure you are not going to bring a machinebut will be looking for something to do, please contact me before the meeting. I'll be out ofthe country before the meeting and maynot return your email timely, but I'll try to bringsomething for you to do. My email [email protected].

'STASH your CASH' for SAFEHOME... Overwhelming success!
BVQG BREAKING NEWS ...
Generous with a capital 'G' is the definition of BVQG members!
In January, 2018, we began a cash jar collection for SAFEHOME that the committeehoped would perhaps total $100. The ultimate goal of $200, in coming months, wasto be used to purchase a gift card specifically to supplement the SAFEHOMEKitchen budget.
We are overwhelmed to report that January's cash totaled $277.14 !Anonymous donors added enough to round out that figure to $300.00 and the Costco gift card hasbeen purchased. SAFEHOME committee members presented the Guild donationearlier this month to a most grateful kitchen head cook and Safehome staff.
During future months the 'STASH your CASH' jar will be available at the SAFEHOMEtable for any loose change or bills you may want to contribute. It can be in place of -or in addition to - the regular suggested monthly donation item.(Don't worry - passing the jar for 'offerings' during the monthly meeting - like for Sunday services -will not be a common practice.)
Thank you ladies for a marvelous start to the 2018 year for SAFEHOME!
-Your BVQG SAFEHOME Committee

Many things are listed on the 'needs' list for the residents, some more urgent than others. The month of February we choose to focus on three food items requested by SAFEHOME.
You are welcome to bring one or as many as you choose to the February meeting onFebruary 6, 2018.
Let's fill our donation boxes to help fill the tummies at SAFEHOMEIThanks for thinking of others.

The best way for the guild members to communicate with the group as a whole is by using our Yahoo Group: blueval
leyquiltersguild. This is a closed group, and you need to be a member of the guild to receive emails posted in the Yahoo
Group.
How often you receive group emails is a setting you can change to meet your personal preference.
On the left side of the page, look for the link "Manage My Groups." Click on that link, and you should see
"bluevalleyquiltersguild." If you click on drop down menu under the heading "Mail Subscription," there are some options
on how you'd like to receive the group's messages.
Individual Emails No Email Special Notices Daily Digest
Keep in mind if you choose any option other than "Individual Emails" any time sensitive messages may be received too
late for you to take action. "Daily Digest" will provide you with a summary of all messages posted the previous day. If
you aren't a member of the Yahoo Group, and would like to be added, contact Dee Sopinski.
