Complete directions for a sofa- and double-comforter-sized Snowflake quilt appear in the November/December2003 (#94) issue of Quiltmaker magazine. These twoadditional snowflake template patterns are provided freefor our readers!
The blocks look complex, but are easy to sew. Correctpiecing order and proper pressing are key to creatinggreat-looking blocks. In the block diagrams shown, we’veused both of the foundation patterns given here and onthe next page.
For each hexagonal block, foundation-piece 12 trianglesections from the patterns provided. Join them to make 6 diamonds; press the seam allowances open. Next, add two solid (non-pieced) triangle patches on either side of one diamond to create equilateral triangles. Press these seam allowances away from the foundations. Join 3 triangles to make a half block. Press seam allowances open. Repeat for other half. Join the halves and press seam allowances open.
