Spread the Gospel, the Good News about Jesus and His St. Anthony Family. A Holy Community through Holy Communion! Your brother in Jesus,

Prayer of the Week

What does love look like?

It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has the ears to hear the sighs

and sorrows of men and women.

That is what love looks like.

St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430) Bishop and Doctor of the Church

Joke of the Week

There is a story about a monastery in Europe perched high on a cliff several hundred feet in the air. The only way to reach the monastery is to be suspended in a basket pulled to the top by several monks. Pulling up this basket required all the strength of the monks. Obviously, the ride up the steep cliff in that basket was terrifying. One tourist got nervous about half-way up when he noticed that the rope by which he was suspended was old and fraying. With a trembling voice, he asked the monk who was riding with him in the bas-ket, how often they changed the rope. The monk thought for a moment and answered brusquely, “Whenever it breaks.”

Saint of the Week St. Jeanne Delanoue

Founder, Congregation of St. Anne de la Providence (1666-1736)

As a shopkeeper in Saumur, France, Jeanne De-lanoue was a notorious miser. She hoarded every cent and angrily drove beggars from her door. In this self-enclosed life, however, the influence of grace effected an extraordinary conversion. It began when Jeanne provided lodging to an old woman who traveled the countryside visiting holy shrines. Over time, the presence of the old woman worked a strange influence on her landlord. Accom-panying her lodger to weekly Mass, Jeanne no longer found the same pleasure in counting her sav-ings. In fact, she came to believe that this old woman was a holy messenger sent from God to bear a warning and challenge: “I was hungry, and you did not feed me; I was a stranger, and you of-fered me no shelter.” She decided at once to amend her life. She began by taking in a homeless family with six children. Others followed. Her home became known as Providence House. Eventually willing help-ers arrived, and she took this as a sign to found a religious congregation dedicated to service of the poor and sick. In time, they took religious vows and Jeanne became Sr. Jeanne of the Cross. By the time she died at the age of seventy, she was the best-loved person in Saumur. St. Jeanne was canonized in 1982. “It is the Spirit of God which animates you and prompts you to this penitential life. Henceforth, then, be without fear and follow your inspirations.” —St. Louis de Montfort in a letter to St. Jeanne

October - Respect Life Month

What to Do When a Friend is Considering Abortion

Read the full version at respectlifeprogram.org/l-o-v-e.

When a woman is facing a difficult pregnancy, the reaction of the first person she tells tends to set the tone for her decision making. How do we respond in a loving way that is life-affirming for both her and her baby? First, prioritize listening over speaking. Ask her about her feelings, thoughts, values, be-liefs, and wants. When her story is fully shared, it is your turn to provide factual information, in a loving and caring way. Encourage her. Help her set goals that extend beyond her due date to help her see life beyond her pregnancy. Reas-sure that she is not alone, and provide practical support. Pray with her, offering Christ’s love at a crucial life-saving and life-defining moment.

Reassure that she is not alone.

Seven Considerations While Navigating Infertility

Read the full version at respectlifeprogram.org/navigating-infertility.

We often assume parenthood happens easily after “I do,” but for many married couples, it does not. For some, the joy of conception never happens. Others suffer repeated miscarriages. Still others experience secondary infertility: after giving birth to one or more children, they are unable to have another. If you experience difficulty bringing a child into your family, know that God is with you, and that He has a beau-tiful plan for your life as a married couple. You are not alone; His Church desires to walk with you. The full article at the website listed above con-tains compassionate, practical guidance, intended primarily for married couples struggling with infertil-ity, though others may also find it to be informative.

God is with you, and His Church desires to

walk with you. This is a summary of a USCCB Respect Life Program article by the same name and is reprinted with permis-sion. © 2019,USCCB, Washington, D.C. All rights re-served.

Who Would Like to Grow as Adults In our Catholic Faith?

“Inquiry Into the Catholic Faith”

✞ Do you know the Lord as well as you would like to?

✞ Do you wonder if your prayers and experiences of God are similar to others?

✞ Do you feel your life is on the right track to heaven?

✞ What and why does the Catholic Church teach anything about my life, or my children’s?

✞ Do you need a Community of Christians to support and challenge your faith and concern for others? You are personally invited to our Inquiry into our Catholic Faith (known as RCIA = Rituals of Christian Initia-tion for Adults) For Whom: a) Anyone who wants to become a Catholic Christian. b) Anyone who wants to learn about the Catholic Faith, but does not want to join. (Possibly because of marriage or school.) c) Any Catholic who would like to return to the practice of the faith. d) Any Catholic who wants to deepen their faith and understanding. FAITH in God is a gift but we need to make the effort to nourish it, although making time is not easy. We change with the years and so our faith should grow as well. TAKE TIME to pray over this. If you are interested, encourage a friend or family member to come with you. If you know someone else desiring to become Catholic or return to the practice of the faith, encourage them to let us know. Drop this in the collection basket or send to our Rectory Or email: Father John Reiker : [email protected] For any questions. The Archdiocesan 43rd Annual Respect Life Convention will be held at the St. Charles Conven-tion Center on Sunday, October 13. She is also the founder of And Then There Were None (ATTWN), a ministry that has helped over 430 clinic workers leave the abortion industry and that number continues to rise. In addi-tion, Abby is the author to two books, Unplanned and The Walls are Talking. Online pre-registration for the keynote luncheon is required on or by October 6 at https://prolifestl.regfox.com/2019-respect-life-convention.

The Parish Council News:

Parish Council Mission Statement: Our Mission as a Parish Council is to aid our Pastor in fulfilling his duties as Shepherd of our parish.

The 2nd Annual Big Family Outdoor Mass and Pot Luck Dinner This event, designed and hosted by the Parish Council, is intended to build fellowship and make connections with fellow parishioners -- and to that end the event was a major success! As you may remember, reservations were re-quested but not required. Reservations totaled 114 but 158 attended. As always, there was an abundance of home-made food with the star of the evening -- the hog roasted on the spit and carved and served that night. There were games, face painting and balloons for the children and Riddles and Jokes for the adults (I think the adults were happy to have the chil-dren there because they certainly knew all the answers) Meanwhile, everyone was waiting for that very special “#” for their turn to go through the buffet line. Sorry Row #5...maybe next year?! Friends and long-time parishioners got together and new parishioners joined in. It was a memo-rable night. So it appears the entire evening and event was a major success...but wait till next year...it will be even BIGGER AND BETTER!

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday Mass. This pro-gram is designed for children ages three through nine. Children’s Liturgy of the Word brings the Gospel to the children in an enlightening and meaningful way and at their level of understanding. Through appropriately adapted Scripture texts, music, prayer, and activities that reinforce the Gospel message, the children have an op-portunity to celebrate their faith in a way that is joyful and relevant to their own young lives. The children are es-corted out of mass by the program catechists after the Opening Prayer and return to mass at Offertory. For more information, contact Kathy Joslin at [email protected] or call 636-677-4868 ext. 118 or 636-677-1567.

Also, thank you to everyone who helped clean up too!
