From the desk of Fr. Jamie— This week is Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness Week. The dates of NFP Awareness Week highlight the
anniversary of the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (July 25), which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood. The dates also mark the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne (July 26), the parents of the Blessed Mother. The Church teaches that the Sacrament of Marriage symbolizes Christ’s relationship with His Church. What is this relationship but one of total, faithful, permanent, and fruitful love! When couples live their vocation according to Church teachings, especially with regard to the transmission of life, many benefits can be reaped. Indeed, married couples who use NFP report that among these benefits is their mutual growth in holiness and consequent deepening of their respect and awe of God’s gifts of human sexuality, marriage, and family. These are gifts that call for praise! Prayer and liturgy are at the heart of the Catholic faith-filled life. It is important for a married couple to reflect on God’s plan for their married love and to pray about God’s will for their family. Is it time to welcome another child in the family? Prayerful discernment is a real aide for husband and wife.
Learn more about NFP at: www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/marriage-and-family/naturalfamily-planning/index.cfm. Information about local classes is available at: www.catholiccincinnati.org/ministries-offices/family-life/family/ marriage/natural-family-planning-nfp/ Amen? Amen.

We try to update our Prayer List. If we took someone off that still needs our prayers or someone that needs to be added, please call the parish office.
THIS WEEK’S READINGS JULY 24, 2016
First Reading — Abraham bargains with God to spare the city (Genesis 18:20-32). Psalm — Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me (Psalm 138). Second Reading — Buried with Christ in baptism, we were also raised with him; all our transgressions are forgiven (Colossians 2:12-14). Gospel — Jesus speaks of God’s sure response to those who pray (Luke 11:1-13).
NEXT WEEK’S READINGS
JULY 31, 2016 First Reading — Do not spend your life toiling for material gain (Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21-23). Psalm — If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts (Psalm 90). Second Reading — Christ has raised you to new life, so seek now what is above (Colossians 3:1-5, 9-11). Gospel — Be on guard against all greed, for your life does not consist of earthly possessions, but of the riches of the reign of God (Luke 12:13-21).
KEEP PRAYING St. Monica, whose feast we celebrate in August, is often known as “the persistent mother.” She watched her oldest son, Augustine, turn his back on his Christian faith. Monica was exasperated. For years she gave up talking directly to her son on the advice of a local bishop, who told her that it was better to talk to God about Augustine then to Augustine about God. The mother never gave up praying for her son. Eventually Augustine gave up his wild ways, was baptized, and later ordained and named bishop of Hippo. St. Augustine went on to become one of the Church’s greatest scholars. Today’s readings address the importance of persistent prayer. Abraham, in spite of trepidation that he is bothering the Lord, continues to ask about the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah. Jesus, in Luke’s Gospel, tells his disciples to “ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Luke 11:9). This is our charge: keep praying.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES
APPEAL (CMA) NEWS Sharing Blessings, Saving Lives
As of June 20, just over $4.7 million has been pledged towards this year’s $5 million goal for the CMA. Although just short of the goal, this is still a positive year for the CMA given that the appeal occurred on the heels of the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign. The active marketing phase for this year’s CMA is drawing to a close, but we’re still hopeful that we will reach $5 million in pledges in the coming months. Gifts to the CMA can be made anytime throughout the year.
Installation Mass for Fr. Jamie as our
