Chamber Luncheon: This Friday, July 21 begin-ning at 11:30, the Edmonson County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a luncheon at the Li-brary. St. John’s Thrift Store & Food Pantry will be providing the meal and a short presentation. All are welcome to attend.

St. John’s Thrift Store & Food Pantry

Thrift Store & Food Pantry: St. John Thrift Store and Food Pantry is located at 301 N Main Street in Brownsville. This is an outreach minis-try of our parish. The Thrift Store opened in November, 2014 & the Food Pantry opened in May, 2016. Through the sales of donated items the store helps to serve the people of Edmonson County with utili-ties bills and with food from the pantry. The pantry partners with Feeding America to purchase food at a low cost for distribution to those in need. With financial gifts from individ-uals and churches other items are purchased that are not available from Feeding America. The thrift store and food pantry welcomes all kinds of donations as well as monetary gifts. Items not usable are recycled. Help is available when someone simply needs a helping hand. The mission of the store and pantry is to serve the people of Edmonson County. In the past three years the store has helped residents in Edmonson County with nearly $22,800 in as-sistance. The store hours are: Mon-Fri: 9am to 2:30pm; Sat: 9am to 1pm and the pantry Hours: Mon, Wed & Fri: 10am to 2pm. The phone Num-ber is 270-597-1038.

Giving the Gift of a Mass: Giving the gift of a

Mass is an important tradition of our Catholic

faith. A Mass can be offered for many occasions,

for example: a birthday or anniversary gift, for a

successful surgery, for a family member, in

thanksgiving for prayers answered, for safe travel,

for a friend who has lost a loved, etc. The sug-

gested stipend is $5.00 per Mass. intention.

4 Stages of Marriage – The 4 stages of marriage are: (1) Romance, (2) Disillusionment, (3) Mis-ery, and (4) Awakening. Quite a few marriages experience the first 3 Stages. Marriages that end in divorce never reach the resolution of the 4th Stage of Awakening. Don’t give up without learning about the 4th Stage of Awakening. If your marriage suffers from disillusionment or misery, please contact Retrouvaille (pronounced retro-vi with a long i). For confidential infor-mation or to register for the August program beginning with a weekend on Aug 18, 2017 call 270-852-8346 or email: [email protected] or visit the web site at www.retrouvaille.org.

Chicken Dinner: The Knights of Columbus will

be serving fried chicken dinners on Saturday, July

    22 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Houston We Have A Problem: This phrase was

used by the crew of the Apollo 13 moon flight to

report a major technical problem back to their

    Houston base.

Catholics We Have A Problem: The world has

changed. Today only 22% of Catholics attend

Mass on Sunday. Today Catholicism has the

largest number of former members: 30.1 million.

This is just one reason why every Catholic is being

asked to rediscover Jesus and rediscover Catholi-

cism. As Matthew Kelly says, “there is genius in

Catholicism”. The Good News is that each one of

us can make a difference. “Be Bold, Be Catholic”.

Becoming Catholic Just Got Easier: To find out how contact Fr. Tony at 270-863-1596 or T. J. Dennison at 270-302-6257

SUNDAY'S READINGS First Reading: My word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it. (Is 55:11b) Psalm: The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest. (Ps 65) Second Reading: I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. (Rom 8:18) Gospel: "The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxi-ety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold." (Mt 13:22-23)

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK: We are re-minded today that the seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest. What kind of soil do we have? God's word needs to take root in our lives so that we can remain faithful not only when life is easy but when it gets challeng-ing and difficult. Anxiety, worldly cares and con-cerns, personal challenges, experiences of loss and death, and even fear and disappointment can prevent us from trusting God's promise. We can even find ourselves doubting God's fidelity and lose touch with his presence. Our soil can easily become rocky, hard, and unyielding. Open your eyes and ears today and let all that is around you lead you to God's presence. Then, do all in your power to cultivate and nurture a life that is eager to receive him and fertile for growing the seeds of God's kingdom.
