National Marriage Week
The Church in America is observing the National Marriage Week (Feb. 7-14) and World Marriage Day (Sunday, Feb. 14) as an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family. Theme for 2021 is “To Have, To Hold, To Honor.” Here are some tips, inspired by Pope Francis, to improve our communication, respect, and love among couples. They can be seen as new “works of mercy” for married couples.
1. Be courteous to your spouse. Use polite requests: “May I? Can I?” For example, “Would you like for us to do this?” and “Do you want to go out tonight?” “To ask permission means to know how to enter with courtesy into the lives of others. ...True love does not impose itself harshly and aggressively.” (Feb. 14, 2014.)
2. Say “thank you” to your spouse. “It seems so easy to say these words, but we know that it is not. But it is important! It is important to keep alive the awareness that the other person is a gift from God - and for the gifts of God we say thank you!” (Feb. 14, 2014)
3. Ask forgiveness from your spouse. Say, “I'm sorry.” “Let us learn to acknowledge our mistakes and to ask to forgiveness. ‘Forgive me if today I raised my voice'; ‘I'm sorry if I passed without greeting you'; ‘excuse me if I was late'.” (Feb. 14, 2014) “Never let the sun go down without making peace! Never, never, never!” (Feb. 14, 2014) “It is important to have the courage to ask forgiveness when we are at fault in the family.” (Oct. 26, 2013)
4. Pray together with your spouse and family. “Praying the Our Father together, around the table, is not something extraordinary: it's easy. And praying the Rosary together, as a family, is very beautiful and a source of great strength! And also praying for one another! The husband for his wife, the wife for her hus-band, both together for their children, the children for their grandparents...praying for each other. This is what it means to pray in the family and it is what makes the family strong: prayer.” (Oct. 27, 2013) “Pray to the Lord to ‘multiply your love and give it to you fresh and good each day.’ Pray together, ‘Lord, give us this day our daily love’.” (Feb. 14, 2014)
5. Visit the elderly, especially your grandparents. “Grandparents are like the wisdom of the family, they are the wisdom of a people. Listen to your grandparents.” (Oct. 26, 2013) “How important grandparents are for family life, for passing on the human and religious heritage which is so essential for each and every society!” (July 26, 2013)
6. Share the faith with others. “Christian families are missionary families. They are missionary also in everyday life, in their doing everyday things, as they bring to everything the salt and the leaven of faith!” (Oct. 27, 2013)
3. Pide perdón a tu cónyuge. Di: "Lo siento". "Aprendamos a reconocer nuestros errores y a pedir perdón. 'Perdona si hoy he levantado la voz'; 'siento si he pasado sin saludar'; 'perdona si he llegado tarde'". (14/2/2014.) (26/10/2013)
4. Reza junto a tu cónyuge y tu familia. (14/2/2014)
Escucha a tus abuelos".
(27/10/2013).

There is so much power in words. Words can change your life like saying the words “I do” when you get married or when you give a testament in court. Words are so powerful that they shape our world now more than ever especially with social media. Well in our faith words change our lives as well, especially in the prayers that we say at mass and on a daily basis. Words can invite evil into our lives and drive it just the same. One of the most amazing prayers that change your life comes in 3 simple words, “Come Holy Spirit”. When we invite the Holy Spirit into our lives we are opening that door for God to come into lives and to be changed! This weekend we are talking with our Year 2 teens about the Holy Spirit and what He does in our lives and in the church. Upcoming Events: February 10-Youth Group

DID YOU KNOW?
Teaching children about home security Teaching children about home security and safety tips is critical, but can be daunting for parents. Who wants to scare their child with thoughts of fire, break-ins, or other dangers? Remember to keep instructions simple and age-appropriate, with empowering roles for children in managing their own safety at home. A great place to start is by teaching your children how to dial 9-1-1. Be sure to show younger children how to access the security screen on a cell phone that allows them to call 911 without unlocking the phone. For more home security tips, request a copy of the article “Teaching Your Children Some Valuable Home Security Lessons” at https://lacatholics.org/did-you-know/
