From the Service Desk – Blackboard FAQ List The following are some of the most common student and faculty questions and answers related to the Blackboard Upgrade. Do you have a solution or tip to share? Email it to [email protected].

1. Question: Are “Communications” and “Tools” the same thing now? Answer: Yes. Version 9.1 has consolidated these 2 areas into one. Faculty need to make sure that their course includes a “Tools” button that is available to students so that students can access grades and other course tools.

2. Question: Where is the Homepage tool? Answer: The Homepage tool wasn’t carried over from Blackboard 8 to 9. Assignments that require students to create a homepage should be modified for the discussion board, blog, or wiki tools.

3. Question: Why are no students showing up in the course roster? Answer: You must set the Search box criteria to “not blank,” clear the name field, and then click “Search.”

4. Problem: I have issues with my course when using Internet Explorer. Solution: Use Firefox or Chrome to access your Blackboard course.

5. Question: Where is the link for students to submit/view assignments? Answer: The title of the assignment is now the submission link. Students need to click on the underlined title of an assignment to submit it.

6. Problem: There are text formatting issues when I copy and paste from Microsoft Word. Solution: Use the new “Paste from Word” plug in, found in the “mashups” menu in the text box editor. (see page 1)

7. Problem: The “Needs Grading” area in the Grade Center portion of the Control Panel is not functioning properly. Solution: Grade Center columns must be identified with a “category” in order to show up in the Needs Grading area. To assign a Category (such as test, discussion board, etc), Edit the column using the column heading drop down menu.

From the Center for Student Engagement – ProctorU Service Now Available! The Bellevue University Test Center would like to offer online students who take proctored tests another option for taking a test using an online proctoring service.

ProctorU is an online proctoring service that allows students to complete their computer based and password protected tests at home under the watchful eye of an online test proctor who ensures that test integrity is maintained for Bellevue University (http://www.proctoru.com/). Please review these brief video clips to see how the process actually works.
