How do we use the Past Simple?
1. Finished actions in the past. E.g. She ate a cake
yesterday.
2. Habitual actions in the past. E.g. They practised football
every day.
3. Actions that take place one after the other
E.g. I left school and I met my friends.
Past Continuous
Positive
Was / were + VERB + ING
Negative
Wasn’t / weren’t + VERB + ING
Question
Was / were + subject + VERB + ING?
How do we use the Past Continuous?1. Action in progress at a specific time in the past. E.g. You were surfing the net at 9 o’clock.
2. Two or more actions in progress at the same time in the past.
E.g. Sam was playing tennis while Gina was chatting to Rebecca.
3. One action was in progress when it was interrupted by another one.
E.g. I was listening to music when my girlfriend called me.
