Break Through the Walls – Incubation ArchitectureHaving hosted an exhibition at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Headquarters, London, Barrie Ho Architecture’s Hong Kong exhibition explores the idea of incubation architecture in the city and beyond, showcasing the firm’s four built and ongoing projects in China and Hong Kong. Barber, who is famed for transforming iPhone images into traditional cyan-blueprints that then convey a different mood, explores the intersection between the source images and the archaic blue-print process. Wing Shya – Acting Out: 25 Years Behind a Camera Part of the programme of the West Bund Art Fair in Shanghai, this multi-media retrospective exhibition of internationally acclaimed photographer and film director Wing Shya showcases more than 100 well-known and never-seen-before photographs taken from a wide range of sources, including filmmaking, editorial, personal works, collages and videos. A long-term exclusive stills photographer for renowned film director Wong Kar-wai, Shya’s works feature some of the most famous subjects in Hong Kong film and fashion culture, including Leslie Cheung, Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, Gong Li and Shu Qi; also on show are commissioned works for luxury fashion labels. The exhibition coincides with the launch of Shya’s first photography books in a limited-edition box set of three. 3. Emily Allchurch: Then Is NowThen is Now is an introductory show for Hong Kong of UK-based artist Emily Allchurch’s works, including her well-known piece Babel London. The exhibition showcases her use of photography and digital collage to reconstruct old-master works in her creation of contemporary narratives and a new fictional space. Allchurch will also spend weeks in Hong Kong this month for a locally based project Babel Hong Kong researching location and gathering photographic material for a specially produced work depicting the essence of the city inspired by traditional Chinese paintings. 4. In Praise of Silk: Fashion from China National Silk Museum Across TimeA collaboration between the Hong Kong Design Institute’s Department of Fashion and Image Design (FID)

and the China National Silk Museum, this exhibition pays tribute to silk and features a collection of contemporary fashion and historical costume designs, precious exhibits from the museum, multimedia installations and an exploration of the production of silk with a weaving loom. Chris Evans, Pak Sheung Chuen: Two exhibitionsArtists Chis Evans and Pak Sheung Chuen seek to explore the complex relationships between citizens and society with diverging approaches to how one negotiates the relationship between personal and public domains. Evan’s works include a series of sculptures on the theme of cowlicks (fashioned from real cowlicks), an audio piece entitled Jingle and a series of airbrush paintings. Pak enters an aesthetic pilgrimage of self-healing after the Umbrella Movement with

6. The Weight of Lightness: Ink Art at M+ The exhibition explores how ink works are an important medium in contemporary visual culture. Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening AuctionThe Contemporary Art Evening Auction, to be held on November 16 in New York, features works from some of the most significant art movements of the late 20th century to the present day, including abstraction, minimalism, pop art and conceptual art. Works for sale are from Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Alberto Burri and Jean-Michel Basquiat, among others, from some of the world’s most esteemed private collections.
