Bangor Trident Submarine, currently home of 1760 nuclear warheads …20 miles fromSeattle. “Disarm! Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice.” – from the first Mother’sDay Proclamation, Juliet Ward Howe, 1870 Inspired by Thomas Merton's poem, “ORIGINAL CHILD BOMB” shows the human cost ofnuclear weapons. We have become dangerously disconnected from understanding the realhuman cost of their manufacture and use. Through declassified seldomseen footage, photographs, drawings and testimonies ofmothers, brothers and soldiers, the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki expose thepolitical rhetoric surrounding "security" and "weapons of mass destruction". “ORIGINALCHILD BOMB” is a wakeup call and invitation to action. Most of us feel disempowered andbelieve it is unrealistic to imagine a world without nuclear weapons. Yet hope lives in theconviction that change is possible. Individuals can bring it about. We are screening this film in support of GROUND ZERO CENTER FOR NONVIOLENTACTION, and their Mother's Day Action “CREATING A PEACEFUL WORLD FOR ALLCHILDREN” on Sunday May 14th and Monday May 15th at the Bangor TridentSubmarine Base near Poulsbo, to abolish all nuclear weapons.
