Sync R&D, with its partners, is imminently qualified to work with

various industries. Our staff has many years of experience designing

electro-mechanical systems of all types and sizes. Where specific

technical knowledge is not already in-house, we have identified

partners who have demonstrated history of high quality, high

performance solutions to guarantee that our proposed system is

the best possible system for its money on the planet. Our customers

and industries vary widely, but the skills that each employee brings

from their diverse backgrounds have enabled Sync R&D to

successfully deliver profitable solutions. Following are several

examples of projects in which Sync R&D and its partners have

participated.

SCOMI Rail Berhad.

Description : Gen2 Monorail Prototype

Contracting Activity : SCOMI Rail Berhad, Malaysia

Contract # : MTrans# LOA01 – 20 Oct 2006.

Contract Type : Fixed Cost

Total Contract Value : RM2,000,000+ (~USD580,000+)

Contracting Officer : Johnny Boulianne

+60 (017) 880-0896

[email protected]

Summary of Work:

Sync R&D and its partners, MRDC and San Diego Composites

(SDC) designed, analyzed, and observed fabrication and testing of

the first Gen2 prototype of the world’s first structural composite

body monorail.

SDC designed and analyzed the composite body while Sync R&D

and MRDC designed the welded, stainless steel chassis and

composite interior structures using SolidWorks and Nastran.

The load cases for the vehicle included normal quasi-steady state

loads as well as fatigue assessments per BS7608

(similar to AWS D1.1) and dynamic loads for shock and vibration

situations.

Standards to comply with:

There were also several standards that we have to comply with during

the design of the monorail train which include:

ASCE 21-98 (Part II)

Covers load cases for various chassis, exterior and interior parts.

Examples for interior parts are stanchions loads, wheel-chair space

and load requirements, ergonomic of passengers (size of seat,

standing area, etc), electrical safety, lighting requirement and flooring.

NFPA 130 –

Standard for Fixed Guideway Transit and Passenger Rail Systems

Fire rating for trains

Covers minimum requirement for fire worthiness of interior

components, and methods and best practices to ensure fire worthiness.

BS7608 –

Code of Practice for Fatigue Design and Assessment of Steel Structures

Weld classifications of steel

Fatigue criteria of welded steel sections

Vandal proof material needs to be used to avoid too frequent

refurbishment of the interior. Typically, interior of trains needs to be

refurbished a least every 7.5 years.

Solicitation Relevance:

The work performed for Scomi is relevant because it required a

comprehensive analysis of a very large structure comprised of composite,

steel, aluminum and various other materials represented as 1D, 2D and

3D elements.

Problems & Corrections:

No known problems with this effort.

[email protected]

Summary of work:

Sync R&D design, integrate and observed fabrication and

installation of the hydraulic actuator and electrical control systems

of the 3-point prototype monorail switch. The engineering

drawing package is also managed and updated to ensure latest in

formation is available among the team members. As-built drawing

package is delivered at the end of the project to reflect all changes

and modifications made to the final design during fabrication phase.

Apart from design, Sync R&D also develops installation document,

inspection and testing plan, operation and maintenance manual and

training document. During inspection and testing phase, engineers

from Sync R&D are placed on-site to observed and provide

support for the tasks.

Solicitation Relevance:

The work performed for Scomi Rail Berhad is relevant because

the hydraulic actuator and electrical control system were designed, fabricated and installed on a tight budget and time

constraints. The systems fully comply with the performance

specification and other requirements set by the customer.

Problems and Corrections:

There were no known problems with this effort.

2, 2Y, 3, 4, 5 and crossover switches

Description, contracting activity, contract number, etc as per

comments in original doc.

Contract # 3 PS 00002

Contract Type : Fixed Cost

Total Contract Value : RM800,000

Contract Officer : Khutubu bin Arifffin

Summary of work:

Sync R&D designed and participated in initial fabrication planning for

the 2-point, 2-point Y, 3-point, 4-point, 5-point and crossover depot

switches. Designs of these switches were based on the 3-point prototype

(AW3-loaded switch) switch developed by Scomi Rail Berhad. The

switches were optimized to carry trains within the depot area

(AW0 load). Changes include modifications of the beams, link beams and

trucks. New hydraulic actuator and electrical control systems are also

developed for the longer stroke 4-point and 5-point switches.

The whole information package including engineering drawings, bill of

material, installation document, testing & inspection plan, operation &

maintenance manual and training instructions are developed and delivered

by Sync R&D. These steel switches are part equipment supplied to the

Mumbai Monorail Project by Scomi Rail Berhad.

Solicitation Relevance:

This project is relevant because it demonstrate Sync R&D’s capabilities to

evolve an existing design to meet new criteria and requirements.

Modification, optimization and good problem-solving skills are applied to

ensure fully operational end product that meets the customer’s

specifications.

Problems and corrections:

There were no known problem with this effort.

CMI, Inc.

Description : Concrete Paving Kit

Contracting Activity : CMI, Inc., OK

Contract # : N/A

Contract Type : Time & Materials

Total Contract Value : USD500,000+

Contracting Officer : Chapin Sipherd

(405) 787-6020

[email protected]

Summary of Work:

SRD and its partner led an engineering team that designed an updated

version of the Series I paving kit and some components of the tractor

leg structure to improve surface smoothness, integrate new actuation

methods to enhance performance range, incorporate features to

simplify machine maintenance and repair, identify cost reductions in

hydraulic and purchased parts components, and incorporate design

For manufacturability and assembly concepts to reduce manufacturing

cost.

Solicitation Relevance:

The work performed for CMI is relevant to this project because this

project required engineering design, analysis, and documentation

support for the fabrication of a welded steel structure using American

Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 standards which are similar in scope and

application to BS7608. The framework was made from stock structural

steel shapes, included many welded and fastened assemblies while also

requiring a fairly high degree of manufacturing accuracy.

Problems & Corrections:

There were no known problems with this effort.

Solicitation Relevance:

The work performed for MotivePower is relevant because the

structure is a welded tank which had to meet Federal Railroad

Administration regulations defining the design and analysis

procedures and evaluation criteria similar to those anticipated

for the off-shore oil platform. The fuel tank was designed in

Pro/E and analyzed in I-deas and NASTRAN.
