We use the past continuous to describe an
interrupted activity which continued for a
period in the past.
EXAMPLES:
• I was working on the park when my mom called me.
• I was watching a movie when my sister started to cry.
• I was playing soccer when it started to rain.
• I was talking to Andrea when Jorge interrupted.

somebody was in the middle of doing
something
EXAMPLES:
• I was eating pizza.
• I was working hard.

things happening at the same time.
EXAMPLES:

• We form questions by using the helping verb was/were +
subject + present participle (V1 + -ing).

NEGATIVE
• We form the negative with the helping verb was/were +
not + present participle (V1 + -ing).
