The helping verb changes depending on the noun.

Verbs use the same endings regardless of the

noun.

THE IMPARFAIT ( IMPERFECT TENSE)

The stem used for the imperfect is the nous form of the verb in

present tense

without -ons (écrire nous écrivons écriv)

The stem of –ger (like manger) keeps the –e

To make the imperfect negative, place ne…pas around the verb.

Avoir and étre can be used in the imparfait to talk about the

past.
