April 10, 2013 – The American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) announced that Mary Kathryn Paskewitz has received the ABNS Leader’s Legacy Award in recognition for her years of leadership and contributions to perianesthesia nursing certification. This prestigious award honors the insights, contributions and dedication of nursing certification leaders. Mary Kathryn Paskewitz, RN, CPAN®, is a recognized leader and mentor with the American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification, Inc. (ABPANC). For the past 12 years she has enthusiastically championed perianesthesia nursing certification. She began her journey as an item writer for ABPANC and soon became Chair of the Examination Construction Committee. She was elected to the Board of Directors in 2008 and become President in 2010. Currently, Kathy is serving as Immediate Past President. “Kathy continues to serve with phenomenal energy and embodies the phrase, ‘Certification is Nursing Passion in Action.’ says Bonnie Niebuhr, ABNS Chief Executive Officer. “Her exceptional knowledge in the field of credentialing, pursuit of excellence in nursing, and dedication to board development is a model for all nursing leaders.” The American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification, Inc. (ABPANC) has made a contribution to the ABNS Leaders’ Legacy Fund, designed to support education and speakers at ABNS Assembly meetings, in honor of Paskewitz’s contributions.
