▪ Counties will register youth by logging into your county
manager account ▪ Youth will be individually enrolled and fees will be individually
applied▪ Team assignments and housing requests will also be
designated for each youth ▪ There is a small increase in the fees for housing, meals and
contests to accommodate increasing costs and the 5% fee

application of healthy living topics
▪ Overview: ▫ 4-H members compete as teams of 2 - 4 members.
▫ 8 Healthy Living topics, set up in the form of stations
▫ Teams rotate through each station
- answer questions and/or demonstrate specific skills▫ Work together as a team to complete each station & receive score
▫ All necessary technology or materials will be provided
▫ No cell phones or other electronic devices with internet connectivity!

ESI Challenge Details
▪ Teams may consist of two, three or four members
▪ Teams will be first introduced to a problem facing society today – that is their
topic for the competition.
▪ After learning about the problem, teams will brainstorm a business solution to
the problem.
▪ Teams will develop questions to learn more about how the problem affects
their potential customers.
▪ Teams will then interview other team members to help refine their business
concept
▪ Teams will test out their business concept and prepare for their presentations
▪ Team will present their business concept to judges. They can use PPT, poster
boards and other presentation materials provided.

No prior preparation is needed. However if teams would like to practice wor
king
together as a team, here is an exercise that they can use:
Think of a problem that is bothersome to people within your community. As
a team,
brainstorm possible ways that the problem could be solved through a busin
ess.
Questions to think about –
• What product/services would your business offer and why?
• Who are your customers and why would they buy your product/service?
• How would your customers get your product/service?
• How would your business make money?
• What is the best way to let your customers know about your product/service?
• What do you need to start your business? Facilities, cash, knowledge?
• What other decisions do you need to make about your business?

PREMIER ANIMAL SCIENCE EVENT

Meats for Consumers Judging
▪The contest consists of retail meat cut identification, food
safety practicum lab exercise, written test and two placing
classes of retail cuts
▪ No age divisions
▪ Teams will consist of 3 to 4 youth
▪ The highest ranking eligible team will have the opportunity
to participate at the National 4-H Meats Judging Contest

Poultry Judging
▪ The contest consists of two classes of judging hens for past
production, one set of oral reasons on a production hen class,
grading eggs based on exterior quality, interior quality by
candling, and broken-out quality, grading ready-to-cook parts.
“National Poultry Judging” (4H 460) will be a reference for this
contest.▪ No age divisions
▪ Teams will consist of 3 to 4 youth
▪ The highest ranking eligible team will have the opportunity to
participate at the National 4-H Poultry Judging Contest in
Louisville, Kentucky.

Livestock Judging
▪ Both divisions will consist of 10 placing classes. All classes may or may not include
scenarios to assist in placing the class. Breeding class scenarios may include
actual data or EPD’s. Senior division will give reasons on 4 classes and answer
questions on 2 classes. Intermediate division will give reasons on 3 classes and
answer questions on 2 classes.

▪ Intermediate (10-13) and Senior (14-18) Age Divisions
▪ Teams will consist of 3 to 4 youth
▪ 1st Place Senior Team Only – Choice of the following national livestock
judging contests:
- National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest (Louisville, KY)
- American Royal 4-H Livestock Judging Contest (Kansas City, MO)
- National Western Roundup (Denver/Fort Collins, CO)

Livestock Skill-a-thon
▪ The contest will consist of six team stations. Each station is worth 100
points, for a total of 600 points in the contest. Stations will include:
-Meats
-Breed and/or equipment identification and uses
-Breeding scenario problem
-Animal evaluation and/or marketing problem
-Quality Assurance
-Feed identification and use and/or feeding/performance problem ▪ Intermediate (10-13) and Senior (14-18) Age Divisions
▪ Teams will consist of 3, 4 or 5 youth
▪ The highest ranking eligible team will qualify for the National 4-H
Livestock Skill-a-thon Contest at Louisville, KY. NEBRASKA 4-H
Livestock Quiz Bowl
▪ A team will consist of four members and up to 1
alternate▪ There are no individual entries in this contest, only
teams▪ Intermediate (10-13) and Senior (14-18) Age Divisions
▪ The Champion Senior Division Quiz Bowl team will
participate in the National Invitational 4-H Livestock
Quiz Bowl in Omaha, Nebraska
