The author and illustrator are parts of the story, but what do they do?AUTHORILLUSTRATORBOTHThe author writes the words in a story. They think of the charactersThey think of the settingThey think of the problemThey think of how the problem with be fixed.They think of the end.Then they write it all down for us to read. The illustrator draws pictures to match the words that the author wrote. When they work together, the author and illustrator create stories and books for everyone to read. Parts of StoryThe characters are the people or animals that the story is about.The setting is where the characters are.The beginning is what happened first. The middle is where the problems start. The end is when the story is finished.

Remember, the hen worked hard and got to eat the bread. Her lazy friends got to rest, but they did not get any of the bread.
