Northside Hospital-Cherokee sponsors a grant that would enable students at their Partners in Education (PIE) schools to make a positive difference in their community by providing funding for service projects. Clark Creek ES fifth grader, Taylor Boysen, wrote a grant application and submitted it to Northside Hospital-Cherokee hoping to make a positive change in her school. Her project is called “Bottle Cap Art.”

Taylor’s project idea consisted of using recycled plastic bottle caps and lids to create works of art that will be displayed on the school grounds. Taylor felt that this project is important because it will help the Clark Creek ES graduating 5th graders leave a “legacy” of recycling and learning behind for other students to see and follow. Hopefully, next year’s 5th graders will continue the project that will recycle more plastic caps and create beautiful artwork based on math and science.

Taylor was surprised at school as she was announced as the recipient of the Northside Hospital – Community Connection Partners in Education Service Project Grant. Taylor was presented with a $300 check from Northside Hospital Grant Coordinator, Shelia Perkins.

Free Home Elementary Gives a Thumbs-Up to Clean Teeth!

Dr. Trotter and dental hygienist Eden Walker, of Trotter and Patel Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics visited Free Home Elementary School to teach the important lesson of dental hygiene and dental care to four Kindergarten classes and two First Grade classes. While teaching, Dr. Trotter and Ms. Walker engaged the students by asking them to use a thumbs-up signal for the correct answers and a thumbs-down signal for the wrong answer. They challenged the students with questions about good things to eat for your teeth and the proper way to take care of your teeth.

The classes loved the visit and all of the students took home a bag full of items for their teeth, including toothpaste, a toothbrush, dental floss, and information on proper care. It was a wonderful event!Eden (left) and Dr. Trotter (right) with Mrs. Simmon’s Kindergarten class.
