Invitation to Partner with us
INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW
We invite you to partner with us for this highly anticipated Congress and participate in an event that will profile world class science and technology that will bring a sustainable food supply to the world. For both New Zealand’s own food industries and suppliers, and for global operations, a presence at this event will bear fruit.
The Congress theme:
was chosen in light of the challenges our world’s growing population will experience without a supply of safe, wholesome food for all, without compromise. Delegates, speakers and partners of this event will all contribute to mankind’s triumph over these challenges.
The Congress will attract over 1500 participants – food industry professionals from the forefront of production and manufacturing to the highest expertise in research. Post-graduate students will showcase their potential, and their innovative approach to the needs of our world.
Your host nation, New Zealand, is reliant on its food industry for a major part of its export income. It is committed to the supply of high quality food through the application of science and technology and justifiably proud of its achievements. Many Kiwi companies have expanded hugely after showcasing their innovations at global exhibitions.
Your visible presence at this event will impact on your company’s future business in many ways. Through building your business-to-business network and thus expanding your knowledge of the industry that sustains you, your company cannot fail to gain significant benefit.
We therefore seek your support for and participation in this showcase of world-class food science and technology.
This prospectus sets out a variety of opportunities for sharing in the benefits. However, if they do not meet your needs, we will customise a package to suit.
On behalf of the organising committee, I look forward to sharing the benefits that partnering with us can bring to your company.
Andrew Cleland, Chairman, Organising Committee

Established in 1965, The New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology Inc. (NZIFST) is New Zealand’s leading professional association representing people working in the food industry, or in related research and teaching, who apply science and technology to the processing, manufacture and distribution of foods.
NZIFST has been an IUFoST adhering body since 1966.
The Institute is committed to the promotion and advancement of Food Science and Technology, supporting one of New Zealand’s most important industries.
The Institute has over 1,200 members from:• Industry (representing employers and owners of more
than 400 New Zealand and International companies)• Academics and Researchers (from 7 New Zealand
universities)• NZ Government Crown Research Institutes (CRIs)• Central Government Ministries in Food Safety, Food
Regulation, Education and Business• Students - 10 percent of members are final year and
post-graduate students from tertiary institutions
The Institute communicates with members through regular branch meetings, in local centres, a bi-monthly magazine – Food New Zealand, a fortnightly e-zine – Nibbles. NZIFST is governed by an elected Executive and a Board representing all regions.
Host of IUFoST Congress 2020
NZIFST is New Zealand’s internationally connected, central, networking and support organisation for scientists and technologists in food manufacturing and food research.
NZIFST conference expertiseNZIFST and its members have valuable experience in organising local and international conferences.
The Institute has run its own annual conference for 52 years. The event moves around New Zealand’s major convention centres. Each conference features plenary sessions, up to 5 concurrent sessions, posters and competitions. It is supported by sponsorship from Central Government, Universities and the food industry, and complemented by a trade exhibition of 25-40 booths. Each event is enhanced by the presence of renowned international speakers.
In 1999 NZIFST members assisted in the organisation of the Sydney IUFoST Congress, supporting the host body, the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology.
NZIFST members were prime movers in convening the 2010 International Dairy Federation (IDF) World Dairy Summit in Auckland. This Summit attracted 2200 delegates from 66 countries: from dairy companies, manufacturers, academia, regulatory bodies and government. The group was also among those who ran the 2001 IDF World Dairy summit in Auckland.
NZIFST’s IUFoST Fellows, Dr Andrew Cleland, Professor Harjinder Singh, Dr Gordon Robertson and Professor Laurence Melton are regularly involved in International congress committees. In addition many of our senior members are active in the international food community
Student engagementNZIFST actively seeks and supports student members, through their studies and as they enter careers in the Industry.

New Zealand has a world reputation for genuine friendliness.
The scientific and social programmes will showcase Kiwi expertise and hospitality.
Outside the plenary and concurrent sessions, we will take advantage of our beautiful scenery and venues set alongside Auckland’s magnificent harbour to give delegates a taste of New Zealand.
New Zealand Showcase Dinner – Sample. Enjoy. Network.A gala event, showcasing New Zealand foods, prepared by award winning chefs, matching locally sourced culinary fare with our fine wines plus music and culture will be the highlight of the social programme, allowing delegates to satisfy their taste buds while networking with their peers in a congenial environment as only Kiwis can create.
NZIFST will run a broad, international technical/scientific programme, showcasing innovations that lead to a safe, sustainable and secure food supply, highlighting work that leads towards fulfilling these needs.
IUFoST delegates from around the globe will have a first-hand view of how Kiwis achieve, and share their own achievements, in this critical field.
New Zealand is home to world renowned experts, driving innovation in key industries; not least our food industry, which generates over 50% of our GDP. Our researchers are engaged in numerous research collaborations with peers in Europe, the USA and Asia.
More than any other country in the world, New Zealand depends on producing, processing, manufacturing and exporting safe and wholesome food. The New Zealand Government has set a target of tripling the country’s food and beverage exports by 2030 and accordingly invests heavily in resources for food research.
