Following the success of the 2018 London Design Biennale, we are pleased to present the opportunity for your brand to become involved through sponsorship of the India Pavilion at one of the world’s leading design biennales - London Design Biennale at the iconic Somerset House (June 2021).

The London Design Biennale is a global gathering of the world’s most ambitious and imaginative designers, curators and design institutions.

It provokes debate and an engaging exchange of ideas about the universal impact of design in contemporary culture and explores design's potential as a transformative global tool with the power to inspire, inform and entertain.

Renowned architect Nisha Mathew Ghosh will represent India at the London Design Biennale 2021, and is set to lead the conversation on sustainable design in response to Artistic Director Es Devlin's call to action: ‘how can design provide solutions to the major crises of our time?’

This partnership brief provides an overview about the biennale, its success to date, renowned partners and jury, the India Pavilion installation, team and purpose, as well as the ways in which we can work together.

For the India Pavilion, Ghosh will present “SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL. A Billion Stories” a new multi-sensory kinetic installation that brings together art, craft, design, music, and technology, assembling a labyrinth of radical ideas developed to combat the pollution of India’s natural environment- its water, forests, earth, and air.

At the heart of the installation is a two-winged kinetic structure inspired by the modern form of a windmill blade and the traditional Indian Punkha.

The installation pays homage to historical grassroots initiatives by communities and individuals in India, and signals the hope these community-based movements can provide in challenging the current ecological crises of India's booming cities.

Talking about the motivation behind this project, Nisha Ghosh says: “All across the landscape of India are IDEAS - isolated beacons of light that hold keys to a FUTURE of IDEAS for an ECOLOGICALLY RESILIENT India. Be it forests, clean energy, restored brownfields and clean air - a blueprint of this tapestry of ideas creates exciting possibilities of building much needed ECOSYSTEMS of innovation and solutions for the future. The next generation does not have enough benchmarks for sustainability, inspiration in order to build on older foundations to create a new ecologically conscious India. A mapping and documentation of what we have done so far is each of these domains is critical to move ahead. It has the possibility to RESONATE a much needed HOPE in the post-Covid rebuilding of the country.”

The complexities of the ecological crisis that India and the world are facing, resonate across all aspects of our lives.

Our greatest hopes for unpacking these difficult and urgent issues lies in the collaboration between disciplines to bring about new ways of thinking about urban planning, design practices and the governance and policies surrounding the use of brownfields and natural resources.

An ecologically resilient future for India relies on collective action.
