SACRAO 2014
“Whether we realize it or not, interdependency has become the hallmark of American higher education, and we must seek to get the most out of inter-institutional cooperation if our colleges and universities are to succeed
(Neal, 1988, American Council on Education, p. v)
Shared Responsibility• Two-year colleges offer students open-
access to higher education and at a lower cost
• More than 50% of students enrolled in the U.S. are at a two-year community college
• Yet, overall transfer rates from the two-year to the four-year remain low, 20-22%
